If Angus Brayshaw's footy career ends due to this tragic concussion injury and his previous history of concussions then the AFL and Brayden "the Thug" Maynard better watch out.

I can see this all going to court for lack of duty of care and Angus Brayshaw having his football career ruined. Mark my words, there will be legal consequences in the future!

Seriously?

Yes, there are already multiple lawsuits against the AFL currently happening by ex and apparently also current players over their mishandling of head injuries. Not to mention Gus' mother in law is currently suing the AFL over the exact same thing.

If you are her lawyer, are you not having a field day with the idea that Gus could be called upon as a witness? Here is a perfect example of how the AFL does in fact not protect the head, but rather big name players from missing finals.

Maynard is no more culpable of the end of Brayshaw’s career than those that caused his other concussions. This is the problem, the AFL are still behind in protecting the head of its employees.

A lot of friends I talk to think the lawsuit stuff against the AFL is bogus because they "Knew what they were getting themselves into". These people need to be educated, the sport is contact yes and some concussions will be unavoidable. To quote from the Guardian article earlier this year:

"It cited the AFL’s alleged failure to make and enforce rules, policies, procedures and protocols in line with medical knowledge to reduce the incidence of concussion as evidence of its “negligence”.

The AFL also failed to adequately conduct risk assessments for head strikes and concussions and to educate players about the risks of long-term injury arising from concussion – particularly as they related to an early return to play, the writ said."

I always wanted to believe the AFL was doing everything possible to minimise concussion and provide the best concussion management protocols possible but after the Alir and Jones incident a few weeks ago I'm not so sure.

I hope it does go to court. Brayshaw deserves compensation.

This should help cheer everyone up (report from The Age):

Petracca said a neurologist gave Brayshaw the “all clear” after the Melbourne midfielder’s brother Hamish Brayshaw, an ex-Eagle, told reporters this week he would undergo brain scans.

“He is going better. I saw him the day after [the incident happened], and he obviously got concussed 12 hours before that, so, of course, he was going to be feeling sore,” Petracca told KIIS FM.

“I think [his concussion history] was more so worrying him, but he saw the neurologist and [he received the] all clear. Apparently, the concussion – the way he pulled up compared to the last one – was much better, which is good.

That must be a huge relief to Gus, families and team mates!

Based on the above and an interview with Max I would say it was Gawn and Petracca that were with Gus when HWSNBN Mark 2 arrived with flowers and wine.

By all accounts it was Max that let him in etc so I reckon it was Petracca who walked out!!  I liked that; showed his disgust without knocking him out which is what he deserved.

Imagine if Petracca had let his rage loose.  HWSNBN Mark 2 probably wouldn't play again!

Bumping this to put some good news out there about Gus.

While not having read many threads in recent days, the list of sad looking thread titles, suggests that we could all do with a little bit of sunshine.

Delighted that Gus is doing so well.  That is the good news story of the week!!

Hope Angus Brayshaw is doing ok? Any further news?

The "silver lining" of yet another straight sets loss in finals is Angus Brayshaw gets a nice long break to rest and recuperate.

However, I am sure he would rather be playing against Brisbane in the Preliminary Final! As would we all!

Additionally, I assume he is still furious about getting knocked out by his so-called "friend" Brayden "the Thug" Maynard. The way the media replays the horrific incident on the TV constantly still really irks me! The AFL will need to eventually pay for disgracefully letting Brayden "the Thug" Maynard off the hook! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Lastly, I also have my fingers crossed that Angus Brayshaw will fully recover and be fit and ready to start his Pre-Season for 2024 after a nice long holiday. 🤞

"Angus Brayshaw wants to continue AFL career after latest concussion

Angus Brayshaw will have brain scans to guide his path forward after being concussed six times in the AFL. Will he be playing for the Demons next year?
Melbourne star Angus Brayshaw has resolved to continue his AFL career despite losing consciousness in his latest concussion."

HS Story.

He was invited to the Brownlow Monday night but has now declined. Probably doesn't want the questions or see some players from a certain team.

He will get a big round of applause, in his absence,  for any votes received.

Serious question, if we somehow made the Grand final and played Collingwood, and Brayshaw played, would the Collingwood supporters boo him? I honestly think they would. Some of the comments coming out has shown how classless Pies supporters are.

Collingwood aren't classless they represent the lumpen proletariat which is the criminal class.

Harsh but fair. Harsh but true.  Harsh but …it’s footy so give ‘em hell.  Maynard is their face. And it’s an ugly vile loathsome one !!!

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
