For the first time in my life, I am feeling the same. This when we are potentially just 2 games from a GF. I can no longer guarantee I will not get physical if experiences like the following are repeated.

I was sitting in the MCC members area, when shortly after the assault on Brayshaw, a Collingwood supporter behind me yelled 'just get him off the ground and get on with the game'. His obnoxiousness remained all game.

I'll spare you the antics of the drunken woman in front of us 'minding' her sisters toddlers.

It's getting hard to justify to myself the 5 hour round trip to see them at the G to experience that cr*p on a regular basis. I'm close to becoming just a TV viewer with the commentary off.  Even that may not last.

It's so depressing to think about it because I love the club and have been a MFC full member for 45 years.

I sit in the MCC and got tickets today. I was hoping I’d miss out but it was my turn to get them for other friends. I’m sitting in the boondocks on level 4 and if some blues numpty gives me any unnecessary, abusive grief I’ll likely lose my [censored].

63 years for me....feeling the same..travelling from SA every 2-3 weeks...rather watch the football without the sound...sickening eh!

What did Tom Browne and Tom Morris say? I have seen them referenced multiple times

When you see this image and you read the pure trash in the media it makes you want to give up on this game.

It's almost victim blaming by the media and all the keyboard nuffies from Collingwood online.

Brayshaw is not in a good place and all we see and hear is why Maynard shouldn't get suspended

I did.

So did I.

I shed more than a few tears looking at that image, and thinking of his parents and Danielle and her mum listening to those Collingwood inbred cheer while Gus was motionless on the ground, and rushing down to the rooms to see how he is doing.

I think it's little wonder why so many of us are feeling so flat about Thursday. A loss is a loss, we've all seen plenty of them and plenty worse, but this incident, and the frankly pathetic follow up in the media and online since, has really just left a horrible bitter taste in our mouths.

If our season ends on Friday, I'll be upset, but if Gus is ok then that is truly what matters. Bigger picture.

Tom Browne Twitter (X) comments

“There is no suggestion Maynard jumped off the ground to knock Brayshaw out.

He jumped off the ground to spoil. A football act”.

“A lot of people are talking about Maynard turning his shoulder.

Jump up on the spot, and see how much decision time you have, when suspended in the air with your feet off the ground. Very little.

Maynard just braced at the last moment, which is reflex in the circumstances”.

Tom Browne is the son of Collingwood chairman and president Jeff Browne.

Surely he needs to declare a direct conflict of interest here and not comment directly in such a one sided basis in his media role.

It is quite sickening. The truth is

it was careless (he had options, but he chose to turn to bump not brace)

it was head high

it was severe impact

there was a duty of care

4 weeks is the answer

Fully agree a very decent person and Fair Footballer HE HAS A GREAT FUTURE outside of football  also laughs at himself and of course Max

Get better hopefully all up and about for the G Final hope its against Collingwood would, be great if he does make it and he kicks the winning Goal

Tom Browne couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag. Needs to stop telling us what players can and can't do.

Should go back to bin diving. Suits him best.

Trash.

On channel 10 sport tonight his brother Hamish said Angus was getting a brain scan tonight by the doctor that monitored him last time.

He said Angus appeared much better than previous concussions and was up and about.

Almost all the media morons are saying it is a "football act".

What a load of rubbish! They really are lying scum!

Poor Angus Brayshaw. His brother was interviewed on Channel 7 news today. His brother said Angus would be seeing the same brain specialist he saw 6 years ago. He will also be making a decision on his football career during the off-season. So it sounds like we won't be seeing Angus for the rest of this year! 😔

I hope the thug Brayden Maynard gets suspended for 8 weeks the [censored] dirty piece of [censored]! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

"What could Maynard have done differently?"

For a start, not making a largely unrealistic attempt at a smother by leaving the ground at speed and then turning your shoulder inside to knock someone in a completely vulnerable position into next week, causing the likely end of their AFL career and potential long term detrimental health issues?

Amazing how we see players smothering the ball 100's of times week in week out yet only (to my memory) have we seen such a catastrophic outcome in this case alone.

Huge line in the sand moment for the AFL, they've done the right thing by grading it appropriately.

Footy act or not (what a stupid term that is by the way), severe impact is severe impact and it must be punished.

And by the way, he knew who it was..

Collingwood may have set up the meet with a bottle of wine. Does Maynard even know what wine looks like in a bottle shop?

Was there any media waiting outside Brayshaw's house.

Herein lies the disconnect.

Bracing for contact with a hip and shoulder is reflexive in the circumstances?

Maybe reflexive for someone putting their own health and well being over the victim over someone they are about to land on having run and jumped at them.

Not reflexive for someone dong their very bets to protest the victim over someone they are about to land on having run and jumped at them.

Again i'd point to Kozzie's efforts to not poleaxe Hoskin Elliot. Funny how his reflexive instinct was to do his best to avoid contact

The Pies supporters booing while Fritta had a free on goal really made me angry. Wouldn't even acknowledge that. They really are a sub species of mankind.

If it happens and Maynard's playing, he'll wish he wasn't.

Maynard was there, in that position to catch/stop/[censored] the quick exiter from the middle, in this case Brayshaw. It was an executed lineup. We don't even need the rest of the hidden camera work. It would be available.

Still f**n angry about it.

I've supported the sin bin idea for years knowing a plodder Backman would take out a star midfielder in a big game because the lack of disincentive. And it happened.

And yet no one has brought it up in the media I bet because this barstard disguised his intention as a smother.  Gaining an advantage in what is essentially a monumental "winner is the flag favourite" game was the incentive, and I bet he knows the club can win it without him, whether he gets 0 or 3. It will be worth it either way for a thug like him.

Like others have said, I'm absolutely done with footy besides our dees games. And if I was eloquent and brave enough I'd shout it all over social media and talk back to show people what the result of this type of thuggery is. But I can't be bothered, knowing what kind of responses would come my way.

It's kind of symbolic ain't it. The player wearing a helmet with a history of concussion taken out by a self confessed enforcer, and the ex players rushing in to defend him. Really turns you off the sport. Who'd want to be around such crassness?

I said immediately after it happened that we have to introduce a red card for acts like this.

If one player is lost for the other team, then it's only fair that the team with the player who commits the red cardable offence be down a player too.

I just acted on the impulse to post that image in reply to a bunch of the Filth's fluff stories on Twitter. Doesn't do anyone any good but maybe I'll get blocked by Collingwood on Twitter, which is something we can all aspire to.

See he has it set to no reply's

Simply he chose to jump to spoil that's a no no in tackling

he made contact with the head whether unlucky or not it doesn't matter if it's unlucky he is responsible for his actions ie hitting in the head and concussing/ injuring a player.

Contact made was behind the play as instanced by the immediate free kick down field.

And the severity was high and injury severe which is now evidenced he is still in hospital.

It was careless really reckless when you see it happen so you are responsible if you bump and whether accidental or not. That collision is not one of a football act it's one of a tackle gone patently wrong and the player has to pay. No ifs or butts,

4 weeks thank you.

He didn't jump up on the spot.

He jumped at him you DH...

I could just imagine the outcry  If   Nick Daicos,   Connor Rozee, or some little bloke from Brisbane got poleaxed and lost to the game perhaps for ever perhaps not.      But it cost Melbourne the game.

As a fan of soccer I have been saying this for years. They use Red Cards in the Adelaide Football league to stop thug acts and seems to have had a positive effect.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.
