SEN This morning saying Maynard was reluctantly let into the Brayshaw house bringing flowers, chocolate and wine. An unamed Melb player was there with Gus at the time and was so angry at Maynard, he had to leave the room. Fair to say the the Brayshaw and Frawley families are not happy with Maynard. I suspect they will be furious when his hearing is over

Adding to the awkwardness is that  Katie Hore, our AFLW captain, is going out with Maynard’s brother. And yes, I say awkwardness because she was asked about it on Sunday and yes, it’s awkward.

Jobe Watson's Brownlow is more legit than Cripps' for me.

Absolutely.  Jobe handled himself with class all the way and was screwed as we all know.  Huge sympathy for him.

Brownlow Medallist (*) Cripps?   Meh!

Interesting discussion also on 360 with Scott & Lyon.

Whilst neither directly threw Maynard under the bus you could read between some pretty pointed lines.

AS for the comments made by many about him not having time to react...Lyon made a comment along the lines of have you seen how quick these guys make decisions in tight spaces these days.

Scott commented that if it was at training do you think he would have knocked out his teammate.

They both know why he was positioned there...

Serious question.

Two actually

It's youwho  accidentally knocked out a player.

You want to go around to see him asap to apologise.

But of course you are aware emotions are running high, particularly only two days since the incident.

And given the seriousness of the injury, being a reasonable and relatively smart person (or at least having such people around you giving you good advice) there is every chance the player you have knocked our cold for two full minutes may not be well enough to receive visitors or may have medical staff, family, friends or teammates with him who a very likely not wanting to see you.

So two questions:

Do you drop in unannounced ie without calling ahead?

Do you ensure the visit is kept secret because you don't want people to misinterpret the reason for your visit, question your sincerity or create any more media noise that could be upsetting to the victim?

Oh, and one more question.

Do you bring a bottle of wine when you visit as a gift for a player who has had a significant head trauma?

Apparently they have the same manager (Brayshaw and Maynard). If I were Maynard I would have asked my manager to check in with Brayshaw and ask whether he'd be ok with me coming over to apologise in person at x time on x day. You don't just "pop in".

The Deebrief analysis on this was spot on.

Take the spoil out for a moment, in the end he jumped in the air and bumped Brayshaw.

Finally, not sure if it’s been mentioned at all but before the first bounce Maynard was carrying on like peanut. he lined Fritsch up and was trying his whole tough guy brevado so clearly he was in that kind of mood.

Saw that ... he came onto the ground looking for tough guy action ... selectively picking the least tough-guy opponents upon whom he could alarm and threaten. Just a few seconds later, he saw a vulnerability in Brayshaw, playing well, freely and within his line of interruption - choosing the least appropriate action to take for team 'advantage'.

Is that Corey, who was on our list for a couple years?

Maynard's problem is he went from a football action in smothering to a non-football action by changing his body shape.

That said, he will be suspended tonight and it will be reversed on Thursday night, but the rules will be changed so if this exact action happens again, it will not be overturned on appeal. For you MFCSS sufferers, it will be one of our players to be first to cop the 2024 outcome.

Agree with what your saying here, but in effect that's saying we'll look after the concussed players next year but we're not going to worry about them this year.

Yeah I thought of those things...I didn't suggest he'd thought through " 3" clearly and I only suggest that it was his genuine concern that got him there when he did.

Personally I'm  guessing  it was and I also  agree he should have made an "appointment".

I  reckon the word would have got out either way and in any case apparently they share an interest in wine...

So flowers for the wife and wine for the player. It's actually an attempt at good manners.

I can also understand why the Demons present were peesed of at the fact there is more commentary depending and exonerating  him  than anything  else.

I reckon the tribunal will give this thug a 4 or 5 game penalty.  This in turn will make it almost impossible for Collingwood to argue the sentence down to 1 week

Collingwood are going to have to get him off on appeal

And then of course the AFL themselves can appeal

Do they want to get him off completely, or just one week?

One week is a martyr, and their, and the Media's brainless exoneration, combined with win for the Club to get in the GF, all forgiven...

If the thug was fair dinkum (hope I am using the expression properly), he would accepts the suspension, tell the club to F off and let him take whatever suspension.

Apologise to Gus and family in person behind close doors and no media involved (even if it means to wait until finals are done).

I wonder who told the journos about his visit? 🤔 I bet it wasn't Gus, his family or teammates.

Suggest not to visit this site and thread because you will only become more infuriated!

As you can see, polar opposite thought process with Pies supporters.

Can't see how he can get 1 week.

They can find no case and he gets none. AFL would have to appeal that.

They can't downgrade 'careless conduct'.

They can't downgrade 'high contact'.

They can downgrade 'severe' to 'high' impact. = 2 + weeks. Would expect the AFL to appeal that.

Only other outcome then is 3 + weeks.

I assume that any appeal against the tribunal finding would apply to guilt or innocence, not to vary the proscribed penalty.

Is anyone else feeling out of sorts today? I'm not sure weather it's because Maynard's case is today and either way there will be outrage, because the Collingwood fans are annoying me, or because I'm concerned for Gus or because I'm nervous about Friday night, because my work situation has changed or because the suns out.

I'm just feeling really frustrated.

There are 2 big players involved here

The might of Collingwood and how they are great for business and all the rest of it

And the litigation and class actions re concessions and the huge payout that could eventuate

So, a compromised solution might be reached (or maybe not) A one match suspension and a suspended sentence of another 2 or 3 matches?

What is also interesting is Laura Kane and her experience on the legal side of things

Really? I recall Jobe sooking about it and not returning the brownlow... ever. Said he couldn't find it, or something similar

Jobe wasn't "screwed", he was banned for drugs not permitted by WADA at the time and therefore could not win the brownlow. Pretty simple

I get that, OD. But until such time as it’s case closed with that thug sitting out the next 2-4 matches… I’ll continue to fear. Re Cripps: I would’ve bet my life he’d lose that appeal and from the moment he won it, I realised there’s no such thing as a 100% sure thing in any of these cases.

He won the appeal because the appeals tribunal ruled that the original tribunal member has misdirected himself before making his decision. He didn't win due to a re-analysis of the incident.

It can NEVER be a legitimate football action to launch yourself, airborne and at full speed, directly at another player, leading with your shoulder at head height.

Anyone who did that off the field and knocked someone out would be liable to a criminal charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

Oh have I got the example for you!

1982 World Cup Germany vs France. Goalkeeper Shumacher comes out and nails French outfield player Patrick Battiston. Battiston was taken away on a stretcher.

Unbelievably there was no foul and the ref called goal kick! These days I'd imagine this would be red card and lengthy suspension..

Coincidently, I recalled this incident this morning. I watched it very early in the morning from a TV in a farmhouse in the Parish Of Boohmanoohmana, rugged up, covered in a sleeping bag - it gets cold at night along the mighty Murray - barracking for the Germans, as is my wanton.  When Schumacher charged and felled Battiston I was appalled and nauseated that Schumacher got away with it - not because Battiston was also a Melbourne player, but because that's the kind of fella I am.

Does ’Nick’s Bulletin Board’ run on Windows 95? Are they still trying to make sure they are Y2K compliant?

You know what, they see it through Collingwood eyes just as we'd see it through Melbourne eyes if Viney did that too Pendlebury. In fact take out the crazy and it's the same stuff as we read here but through black and white eyes.

80% of them are just us born into a Collingwood family. (20% of them are inbred scum)

Listen it took them about 10 years just to run the spell check

And the server in the federal prison from which they run this site is not great

It was reported by the Browne creep, who is, apparently the son of the E Colli Wobbler President.

    BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin
