    I loathe Geelong but kudos that they took their medicine when Stewart knocked out Prestia early in the game last year and it cost Richmond a win.

    They didn't whinge nor drum up fan and media hysteria.

    I guess it serves Collingwood's '19th man' agenda to keep them all frothing.  But it just makes everyone else hate them all the more.

    He's going to get off for this, I'm sure of it. And that will be curtains for my interest in AFL. I have two kids aged 15 and 13 both who play and I will be thinking long and hard if I will allow them to keep playing the sport as well.

    I agree with you, and I know the difference between Cripps’ and Gussy’s cases. But before Cripps got off I thought there was no way possible he would. But he did. And I fear this time they’ll have some sort of loophole that none of us foresee. Although it’d have to be some sort of loophole, Maynard’s name isn’t partway etched on a Brownlow. 🙄

    It's youwho  accidentally knocked out a player.

    You want to go around to see him asap to apologise.

    But of course you are aware emotions are running high, particularly only two days since the incident.

    And given the seriousness of the injury, being a reasonable and relatively smart person (or at least having such people around you giving you good advice) there is every chance the player you have knocked our cold for two full minutes may not be well enough to receive visitors or may have medical staff, family, friends or teammates with him who a very likely not wanting to see you.

    So two questions:

    Do you drop in unannounced ie without calling ahead?

    Do you ensure the visit is kept secret because you don't want people to misinterpret the reason for your visit, question your sincerity or create any more media noise that could be upsetting to the victim?

    Oh, and one more question.

    Do you bring a bottle of wine when you visit as a gift for a player who has had a significant head trauma?

    Dropping over to my house unannounced is the quickest way to get on my shyt-list, period. 

    The second-quickest way is to go into a long account of a dream you had the previous night.

    The Deebrief analysis on this was spot on.

    Take the spoil out for a moment, in the end he jumped in the air and bumped Brayshaw.

    Finally, not sure if it’s been mentioned at all but before the first bounce Maynard was carrying on like peanut. he lined Fritsch up and was trying his whole tough guy brevado so clearly he was in that kind of mood.

    Rollyx wants change  the discussion to what rule changes need to be made to stop this happening in future.  (Even though apparently there was no problem with the incident - an odd position to take really).

    I suggested to him that if he wants to discuss that (like many of us do), he starts a new thread on the topic. Instead he keeps posting here. I suggest he's hoping to divert attention from his earlier embarrasing expert legal analysis of the event.

Nothing to do with the guilty verdict which wasn't changed. The case was abandoned and Gil was furious and the rules changed to ensure it doesn't happen again. He is either guilty or not no downgrades lets wait and see 

    I get that, OD. But until such time as it’s case closed with that thug sitting out the next 2-4 matches… I’ll continue to fear. Re Cripps: I would’ve bet my life he’d lose that appeal and from the moment he won it, I realised there’s no such thing as a 100% sure thing in any of these cases.

    At 9:43 in that video they show several instances of what is now described as a "football act" intended to exculpate Maynard. Not one is similar to the front on flying charge undertaken by Maynard. Perhaps they are meant to support the other furphy being promulgated namely that Maynard had a right to protect himself by raising his shoulder. He lost that right IMO when he chose to leave the ground in an uncontrolled manner.

    On a separate note the discussion about knees to the head in high marking attempts certainly raises issues but has nothing to do with Maynard's infringement

    That my thinking 2 weeks and an appeal has a chance 4 or 5 and it's dead in the water. Over to you AFL.

    See how well Collingwood would go with having Sidebottom or Crisp KO’d in the first 10 minutes?

    It very likely cost us the game and a prelim.

    It then gave the Pies a massive advantage.

    I’m quite good at saying things like  “Wow, that’s crazy”, “How weird” and “My, what an interesting sub-consciousness you have”. As long as you can’t see me digging my nails into my skin you’d never know.

    That would be OK, and the other bits, IF the number 4 was willing to own up to his part in the collision.

    While he still (publically) sees it as a footy act, showing no attrition, or taking responsibility for his unnecessary act, the family will have to heal further before forgiveness could even be considered. 

    (This lack of public attrition, could mean that if he had his time again, then the act and outcome would remain the same). 

    Number 4, had to be able to "read the room", without that understanding, then his motives point to being self-serving.

    Leaving aside the weirdness, tell me Member Demonland, when will Player Maynard front the Tribunal. Is it Weekday Tuesday of Date 12 of Month September in This Year of our Lord 2023?

    Jobe Watson's Brownlow is more legit than Cripps' for me.

      And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

      There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

      At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

      Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
