Adding to the awkwardness is that  Katie Hore, our AFLW captain, is going out with Maynard’s brother. And yes, I say awkwardness because she was asked about it on Sunday and yes, it’s awkward.

    Do you ensure the visit is kept secret because you don't want people to misinterpret the reason for your visit, question your sincerity or create any more media noise that could be upsetting to the victim?

    Do you bring a bottle of wine when you visit as a gift for a player who has had a significant head trauma?

    Apparently they have the same manager (Brayshaw and Maynard). If I were Maynard I would have asked my manager to check in with Brayshaw and ask whether he'd be ok with me coming over to apologise in person at x time on x day. You don't just "pop in".

    Yeah I thought of those things...I didn't suggest he'd thought through " 3" clearly and I only suggest that it was his genuine concern that got him there when he did.

    Personally I'm  guessing  it was and I also  agree he should have made an "appointment".

    I  reckon the word would have got out either way and in any case apparently they share an interest in wine...

    So flowers for the wife and wine for the player. It's actually an attempt at good manners.

    I can also understand why the Demons present were peesed of at the fact there is more commentary depending and exonerating  him  than anything  else.

    If the thug was fair dinkum (hope I am using the expression properly), he would accepts the suspension, tell the club to F off and let him take whatever suspension.

    Apologise to Gus and family in person behind close doors and no media involved (even if it means to wait until finals are done).

    I wonder who told the journos about his visit? 🤔 I bet it wasn't Gus, his family or teammates.

    Can't see how he can get 1 week.

    They can find no case and he gets none. AFL would have to appeal that.

    They can't downgrade 'careless conduct'.

    They can't downgrade 'high contact'.

    They can downgrade 'severe' to 'high' impact. = 2 + weeks. Would expect the AFL to appeal that.

    Only other outcome then is 3 + weeks.

    I assume that any appeal against the tribunal finding would apply to guilt or innocence, not to vary the proscribed penalty.

    Is anyone else feeling out of sorts today? I'm not sure weather it's because Maynard's case is today and either way there will be outrage, because the Collingwood fans are annoying me, or because I'm concerned for Gus or because I'm nervous about Friday night, because my work situation has changed or because the suns out. 

    I'm just feeling really frustrated.

    There are 2 big players involved here

    The might of Collingwood and how they are great for business and all the rest of it

    And the litigation and class actions re concessions and the huge payout that could eventuate

    So, a compromised solution might be reached (or maybe not) A one match suspension and a suspended sentence of another 2 or 3 matches?

    What is also interesting is Laura Kane and her experience on the legal side of things

    Really? I recall Jobe sooking about it and not returning the brownlow... ever. Said he couldn't find it, or something similar

    Jobe wasn't "screwed", he was banned for drugs not permitted by WADA at the time and therefore could not win the brownlow. Pretty simple

    It can NEVER be a legitimate football action to launch yourself, airborne and at full speed, directly at another player, leading with your shoulder at head height.

    Anyone who did that off the field and knocked someone out would be liable to a criminal charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

    Unbelievably there was no foul and the ref called goal kick! These days I'd imagine this would be red card and lengthy suspension..

     

    Coincidently, I recalled this incident this morning. I watched it very early in the morning from a TV in a farmhouse in the Parish Of Boohmanoohmana, rugged up, covered in a sleeping bag - it gets cold at night along the mighty Murray - barracking for the Germans, as is my wanton.  When Schumacher charged and felled Battiston I was appalled and nauseated that Schumacher got away with it - not because Battiston was also a Melbourne player, but because that's the kind of fella I am.

    It was reported by the Browne creep, who is, apparently the son of the E Colli Wobbler President.

    If Maynard is genuine in his apology to Brayshaw for carelessly making high contact leading to severe impact, I look forward to him pleading guilty!

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
