Wouldn't cost much but he turns 67 next week. If we're going for someone older I'd prefer Lynch.

What about just for one year?

That is massive over compensation for a team with possibly the best young midfield in the league already. They just need time for their kids to come on. If that compo is accurate, it basically ruins the first round of this this years draft and I'd be hoping we trade out into future if possible, as our picks after 5 (which becomes 7) become weak.

Incentive for clubs to irresponsibly slash and burn a bad list.

It’s a ridiculous amount to be given them. They can now get Harley Reid and still manage to have 2 top 10 picks this year if they trade well.
Picks 2 & 14 for pick 1. Still leaves them with pick 3, 11 and two future firsts. Crazy. Can you imagine they could pick up Reid, Duursma and O’Sullivan from this draft.

With your point about trading out of this years draft and into next years- they( gettable)did have a quick run down of the top draft prospects for next year. 90% were midfielders. I’ve been very keen on us trading out our future first and getting pick 4. But given the capital other have to throw at that pick will push the cost up and given how compromised the pointing end of this draft has become we might be better to hold onto our future first.

Don’t reckon he’d actually know.

Given he’s probably getting his info from the people making the decision I’d be surprised if he’s wrong.

Again, I doubt that is actually the case.

Cal all but confirmed on Gettable that North will get pick 3 as compo,  pick 11 and future end of first pick as a hand out.

Won’t get access to Sanders

we would've killed for that kinda compo when we were propping up the table

With the likely midfield exodus of JJ, Harmes and Dunstan we need to invest there.

I think it would be a good idea and wouldn't be surprised if we were after Xavier Duursma at Port.  He's been injured, hasn't been playing well and is behind Rozee, Butters, JHF, Wines and Drew, they also have Sinn who has hardly played.  I believe we rated him in his draft year and he showed early on that he can play.  He's stalled.

Port have to acquire Ratugolea, Zerk-Thatcher and Sweet and are reported to be chasing Soldo - all with limited draft assets.  They need some list turnover with their disappointing result yet again.

Duursma is 23y2mo and is out of contract at the end of next year.  Might be a classic buy-low play I think.

While I don’t hate the idea of asking the question about Dursma I had been thinking of helping port out another way. They need draft capital for ZT. Zauva and street and only have pick 37&43. Could we ask for there  F1st and send them 23&32. Would give us 2 1st round picks in consecutive years.

Unless it’s used in a different deal I’d probably rather 23 and 32 now than wait a year to use 12-18.

Goalkicking mid , with poise, speed and accurate left foot yes please

I hope we get him and push up to the pick we need to secure him with our first pick. Most phantom drafts have him at 3-5 range

Absolute jet! just what we need

Would love to nab him and play him in that “quarter back” role that N Daicos plays for the Pies

Jeez I hope Sydney don't have a change of heart like Port did after meeting Grundy.

You sure it wasn't Grundy that had the change of heart?

Riley Beveridge reporting on SEN Crunch Time that the AFL are going to recommend an assistance package to North Melbourne of:

- End of first round pick in 2023

- End of first round pick in 2024

- End of second round pick in 2024

- No priority access to Riley Sanders

** Pick 3 compensation for McKay is a separate issue. Will “likely happen” but won’t have anything to do with assistance package.

Wouldn't mind us having a look at Sydney's Logan McDonald. Hasn't done enough given he was a high pick initially but have felt the potential is there. Perhaps tie it into the possible Grundy trade. Would require us to add something to the pot.

How is his tank, speed, defensive pressure and how is his kicking? Is there a chance he can debut on the half forward line use athleticism to be hit up on a wing/running back into f50 space at some point next year after the bye? Think of a young and skinny Hipwood, although 8cm shorter. Hipwood played 10 games in his 2nd year and then 20 in his 3rd, kicking 11 and 30 respectively.

Good point Dem I also have had private thoughts he could come on as a tall smart moving HFF in his development. Using all his footy skills in a different role till he fully grows to a key position role.

It's not so stupid a question or indeed a proposition. Let's see how he develops in 2024 after another full pre season of muscle and weight.

Saw on one of the North FB pages they think that Charlie Spargo is gettable for them.  Played well in both finals apparently (Casey? and Vs Carlton).

I do rate Charlie and if he values actually playing in finals, I can't see him going to North.

This would be a good result as there has been quite a bit of talk they could get pick 11 as well - which would have set out second pick back even further than it already is!

Without reading the article I presume it infers we will trade for pick 10 from the Suns after the dogs nab pick 4 with 10 and 17.

What we do with 5, 10 and 13 is what is of interest to me. Either take 3 players or trade up using two of those picks are the two obvious choices.

10 + 13 for Cats pick 7?

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
