How do you think it plays out?

Thommo back / Smith swingman / Hibbo sub?

Hibbo isn't named emergency.

Smith will go forward, Tommo down back and Laurie as a midfield/forward.

Jordon will be sub

Hibbo can’t be sub he wasn’t in the extended side.

Smith will play permanent forward. Tommo goes back.
Smith will have to remain forward the entire time as JVR will be second ruck.

Petracca 70% of time at ff.

Far too late in the season to be playing Laurie. Has shown nothing in his limited exposure before. Would much prefer known players like Spargo. I'd even take Taj before Laurie.

I expect Laurie to bounce straight out next week for Fritsch, and that'll be our settled side for finals...

Didn't see Laurie's inclusion coming! How's hid form been in the 2s? He has a future I'm sure, but did not expect a game so late in the season when we have other established options (admittedly some a little down on form). Keen to see the thinking on this one, and hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Grundy out has got to send the message we won't play him again (this year)?? Surely...?

I'm a big Spargo fan given he does one thing really well that many of our players don't - kick

But the guy can't find the pill consistently enough

I like giving Laurie a crack, in hope he pretty much becomes a version of Spargo that finds a bit more of the footy

Not sure about the 4 smalls all in the same side though

Laurie, seriously? Thought they'd give Grundy another week.

If Laurie plays well on Sunday who knows, he didn't get a game for nothing

Could Bill Laurie be this years Jake Bowey? A well timed run to finals!!

Okay at best IMO ... probably had a better VFL season in 2022

Laurie has a couple of strengths compared to Spargo. Pace and ability to rack up high disposals albeit at Casey. Can't say I've been that unless from what I've seen this year but will back in the match committee

Laurie is in because of consistant good form in the VFL, it is exactly what we should be doing in selection. reward these players.

I know it's incidental, but Hibberd is on 196 games, it's getting tight to reach his goal of 200.

Bill’s been named. By all means, go hell for leather if he stinks it up (not condoning it, but it’s DL so it’s gonna happen). But how about we encourage him and wish him the very best now that he’s been given this opportunity?! He’s a lovely kid and is so determined to make us proud, so let’s get behind him!!!

I know his Aunt's pretty rapt.... ironically she's a Hawker

I’m still full of fear and loathing this week. It wasn’t long ago that you could bet on us losing this week and then getting pipped by a point next week.

... don't forget Laurie can kick more than 30m

Well said WCW

JJ being subbed last week indicated the FD weren't convinced by his performance. There aren't many compelling mid/forward alternatives though - Spargo, Woewodin, Laurie, Dunstan ...

Sorry, but Dunstan won't be in unless Viney, Clarrie and Sparrow all spontaneously combust.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
