As a poster above who appeared to know him as a junior he lacked/s the appetite for the contest.

Seems to read the ball in flight well and while physically light on atm, seems to be able to maintain focus on the ball despite heavier bodies around him.

Well...... I'm a big Jeffo fan, for a lot of reasons which if I can say I know he will do!

1 He has already put on a bit of weight. Give him another preseason and he will put on another 5 Ks

2 He might be quiet BUT BOY does he take everything in.. He will be analysing coaching, and getting used to a full time Footy gig.. BUT don't take his demeanour of slightly introverted at all, he is a deep thinker

3 I've seen him live only twice this year ( But have done my PF Trade Mark training reports)  and he is working well. Having said that I watched him closely at a windswept Casey a few weeks ago and have this to say

a It wasn't a great day for forwards but he kept presenting and was ignored

b I saw him PUT HIS BODY on the line on many occasions and in doing so created a ground ball possibility

c I saw him held of the ball 5 times for which if it were AFL , He would have been given Free Kicks, but umpiring at that level is like watching pre school teachers trying to articulate who dropped the most crumbs during morning tea!

d He took a spectacular mark ( contested and goaled)

e He does put himself in dangerous positions

f He is for the most part a deadly accurate kick!

So there is my rationale, I beleive he will make it and he will be a DEES Favourite for a long time.

My Take P.F

Sure hope that you are right Mr fence - there has been a 💩 load of negativity in today's VFL EF thread.

Aaron Cadman was the #1 pick in last year’s draft. He’s around the same height as Jefferson and probably weighs a bit more. GWS have given him three AFL games but he’s way off the pace which is par for the course for KPF’s in their first couple of years.

Jefferson isn’t all that far behind Cadman but I wouldn’t be expecting a great deal from either until 2025 which will be the third season after being drafted.

Which shows you how good JVR is. Will be a star when he gets in game consistency across four quarters.

This is a good comparison Jack and as usual @Axis of Bob writes beautifully on Jefferson.

I have seen him a couple of times this year.He didn’t star but did a couple of things that showed promise. As a famous man once said “l like the boy”. Give him a bit of time.

It would be interesting to go back and see what posters thought of Gawn in his first couple years.

I remember posting with Gawn that we shouldn’t expect anything for 6 years much to the frustration of the heaving masses on here; this cuts both ways - both groups that are thinking Jefferson can be best 23 in 2024/5 and those that deride him in his first year - are placing unfair expectations on him.

Hnmmmm yep, zero possesions in a game ? Right Ok. He would be hurting and I know his mates and footy club will get around him. OK lets move on ! Jason Taylor doesnt pick duds and he has played some excellent footy this year.I say WELL DONE young man you may not have won the battle, but I have faith he will win the war!

Charlie is not a first year gangly tall forward - huge difference between than and a ?5th year experienced small high half forward.

2025 I reckon at the earliest. Petty and JVR is our 1-2 punch for 2024.

Throw in the best medium/ tall fwd in Fritta and an improved Kozzie/ Chandler combo with Trac there more often and it's going to be an interesting season.

Our forward line next year will be Petty, JVR, Fritsch, Smith, Pickett, Chandler, Spargo, ANB, Laurie, AMW,.....it's very very strong

Our defence will be May, Lever, Rivers, McVee, Turner, Salem, Bowey, Howe,

Our midfield will be Gawn, Oliver, Viney, Petracca, Brayshaw, Sparrow, Langdon, Hunter, Woewodin,

Add to this list some high draft picks and as long as we can keep Gawn and May on the park or learn to cover them we're in a very strong position.

I find it incredible that people continue to make these sweeping predictions of what next year will look like (or any year), and yet every year we seem to bring someone out of the VFL program 'out of nowhere' and they become best 22.

I get the fun in predicting the best 22 come finals this year, but next year is a completely new slate and anything can happen.

My approach is to be ready to be surprised and that's exciting in itself.

Kid needs a couple of preseasons, no point judging a rookie.

It will all come down to how hard the kid wants to work to be the best he can be, and that takes time. I mean look at JVR, probably way in front of him in terms of physical development but still has a way to go.

Max was mostly played out of position in his first couple of years as a forward.

As we know, Max is not a forward.

The first time I saw Max play in the ruck full time at Werribee against the Dogs 2's and Ben Hudson it was obvious to me that he had the talent to make it. The rest was in his hands and thankfully he has fulfilled that promise.

He still requires a few really good-sized steak dinners and months in the gym with weights and other resistance activities to build himself into a man-mountain. He certainly needs physical development and some pace (muscle pace like Tracca, Peter Moore, Neitz) and he certainly has the smarts and skills to take the big marks and line up the sticks; but, he needs some more mass to get in there with confidence. It will come.

Max was so raw when he was young. Baby giraffes take 6+ years to come good. I’m glad we made the investment. Jefferson should take less time if he is to be something but I think he needs to be 22/3 before his body is ready to take what is coming to him if he plays as a tall in a forward line.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
