Dangerfield Approached to Join AFL Commission

There's a serious lack of AFL nous on the AFL Commission at the moment. It's almost as if the Chairman is over-compensating by getting someone who is not yet retired from the game. I suspect Dangerfield will be an excellent Commissioner...but not yet. He needs to spend some time retired first to get a better perspective. There are plenty of smart, suitable, relatively recently retired AFL footballers who would be better choices at this time.

I don’t mean to sound condescending about professional athletes, because it’s a highly specialised skill and requires a lot of commitment, but how can a multi billion dollar entity seriously think it’s a good idea to put someone on the commission who literally has no experience with administration?

An advisory role, sure. But on the actual commission? That’s nuts. The guys never had another job, let alone the experience required.

Nailed it. This is a Board appointment. Not operations where he could contribute.

It's a Gil thought bubble and disrespectful to Tom Harley and many others.

The Commission has an apalling record in filling vacancies in a timely manner.

Now i understand why Danger as head of the PA stayed silent over the Allir concussion issue.

i figured he was offered a gig for his silence but didn’t think it would be this blatantly obvious

You've addressed my other concerns.

Danger strikes me as a party line type of guy. Just what a Board doesn't need.

I think you’d be missing the point. Goyder would enjoy having 1 extra vote up his sleeve to control the board, and what better puppet than a bloke that grossly overestimates his own smarts & charisma?

Why not even look at an administrator from one of the more grass root leagues that are flourishing?

You know, looking after the fans and growing the junior player base, growing the game and helping clubs to stand on their own two feet etc etc.......

I'll see myself out

He's already inside the corporate dome as the face of AFLPA.

Not surprising at all if he ends up on the commission.   AFL corporate nepotism. Maybe 10 home games at the cattery to justify your taxes building the new 40 k  stadium.

Good,  send Collingwood down there for the first time in decades.

First order of business is to change the league’s name to the Dangerfield Football League.
All games will no longer be played on a football field but rather on a Dangerfield.
Also Dangerfield is supreme leader and chancellor and Geelong is to play 24 games a year in Geelong plus the Grand Final where only Geelong fans and avid Geelong supporting umpires are allowed.

On Footy Classified they thought Dangerfield was the best thing  since pop up toasters with 4 slots.

Classic corporate propoganda.

They all read from a script drafted by the producer but they all get their bloated salaries from the same corporate employer.

Nothing ever changes. The fact his name has even been mentioned while hes still playing footy is disgraceful. The other clubs will go ape.

The only good thing that might come out of it is Pies Haw Rich and Carlton have to go down to the cattery.

Wont happen.

I think Danger is a classic case of tall poppy syndrome, he's not as nearly as FIGJAM as some make him out to be. That said, while I have no love for Geelong at all, but mad (used to be jealous) respect for the fact that the club is a unified well run operation, from recruitment to coaching and their board. I am with FDRoosevelt/(and James Bond) “I ask you to judge me by the enemies I have made.” Anyway, as much as I have respect for Paddy and Geelong, they are the enemy, he can't go and pretend to be Switzerland, while he is still wearing colours. I do think the commission should have very recent ex players on it though.

My point was Danger is barely ,if at all , qualified to join the Board of a Billion dollar outfit like the AFL.

Your point though is way more pertinent and not so far of the mark IMO re; Goyder.

Well the choice was between Carro, Lloyd, Cornes or Eddie .  I will take Danger !!!!

But it will be some socialite from the Amateurs who went to school with Mc Laughlan or DIllon (I really should not be bagging him yet !!) . He/She will be portayed as having  a broad business background and a full grassroots knowledge of the game (mainly through the chaffeur's experience playing out at St Albans

I actually listened to that interview on the way to work. It was hard not throwing up in the car, but he categorically said it's not going to happen while he's playing and he has no plans to retire. Which is very unfortunate.

He is a smooth talker. A sleazy politician if you like. Would fit right in on this corrupt commission.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
