POSTGAME: Rd 19 vs Adelaide

We should try Brown/Smith, JVR and Petty in the same forward line and keep Tommo down back.

I can see some potential there.

one of the key things I've learnt this year is that Steven May is a panic merchant in tight last quarters

Adelaide were playing for their season, to say this was a disappointing win is absurd. We held off their surge and got it done.

Thank you, this is a team that should have beat Collingwood 2x and their wins were gritty and tough. While ours is disappointing? Come on

Good win. They are a good offensive side and got their freewheelin’ attack going a bit too often for my liking. Thought we lacked composure at times. Didn’t finish the game like a seasoned professional outfit. Mays kick in opened the door for them when we had almost closed it. They killed us in the air all day. That is my real concern. Great to see koz and chandler get going a bit. I’d like to see us put someone away soon. Just for my heart more than anything.

In the game day thread I posted about Adelaide's big number differential in tackling and a few nuffies replied 'aww thats cos they haven't got he ball'

Tackles inside 50 Adelaide 13 Melbourne 1.

I'll leave it at that and let the nuffies try to work it out

What else do we have left to complain about if not small children singing the song with their dads? 🙄

in fairness not one of them sang one word. 😂

seem indulgent to me. enjoy the win with your teammates and then celebrate with family and friends

when i played, the song and celebrating was a big part of the win. should be just the team imo

First - Crows players ran from behind the play to take a handball, and ran through our midfield like a hot knife through butter. They did it unabated all day. We stuck a few great tackles at times, but their run and carry tore us apart. Secondly, our decision making around contested ball or coming through half back. Wow. I have no idea what has happened to Stephen May but he was putrid.

That's the Collingwood system adopted by most clubs these days.... the half back line is the absolute key to defending against it.

You also need to be ready to rebound through the corridor and not via the wing which is our go to play

Gus stepped up today. 16 contested possessions and 8 clearances to go with his 7 tackles. A couple of fantastic kicks going inside 50 as well.

.

I get that but he was exposed big time on the spread. Just doesn't have the running capacity of others.

A few points:

Up front:
BBB must surely be at the end of the road now. Joel Smith did more in his first 10 minutes than Brown did all afternoon.
Kozzie electric in the first half, but eventually faded out. But the signs were good.
Van Rooyen showing promise but not quite there yet.

Midfield:
Towering game from Viney was all that prevented us from collapse at times.
Lack of pace a problem for Sparrow and Jordon.
Oliver hugely missed when the pressure built up.

Defence:
Have May and Lever ever got themselves into such a muddle? Must be May's poorest game for a long time. Both kept making poor decisions all day.
Tomlinson would be super unlucky to be dropped next week.

Did anyone think Adelaide were just going to sit by and do nothing. Rankine’s season is done. They gave it everything.

Umps were very poor in the last quarter and were directly responsible for 3/7 goals .

promising sign was our response when the kicked 4 to start the 4th.

What is concerning is that all 3 of the other top 4 can play that way with their running game off HB. Have to learn how to defend that better.

Call me an [censored] then cause that was average

a real mixed bag but in no way did the crows deserve to win that. We made them kick from long range and angles so its not like they were missing sitters. 2 50 metres (the Melksham one wasnt even a free) in the last quarter and the Lever bump as he kicked it is downfield was a freebie goal. please.

Then inexpilcably we made some horrible turnovers to gift them goals, so we almost lost it, but in no way could the crows really think they deserved to win.

I did love how they whinged re holding e.g Woewoedin mark and goal, with all their off the ball holds on Gawn, Petracca Viney all day. Apart from short periods of wonderful footy it was a wokmanlike perofrmance.

Job done, so now please start rotating and resting some players as we play the weaker teams.

I know what you mean- I have a banging headache and pain in the neck from tension in that last quarter

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
