Im shocked that some people have Max over Trac. We don't even get a chance at the come back without Trac. For most of the game, that was one of the best solo performances I have seen in a long time. Max was absolutely fantastic, of course.

I went Max because he was great for 4 quarters. Trac was missing for 10 minutes in the second when they were charging. Although he did come straight back into it and kicked one to show how dangerous he was. I think you can go either way for me it’s more consistent effort vs outright brilliance

You're welcome to be shocked but 21 contested possessions and 10 clearances for a ruckman isn't good. It's out of this world good.

Thought Hunter might have picked up a few 1's & 2's.  Felt he was solid all night (26 possessions)

DE rating wasn't kind to him but I didn't think he was wasteful

Had the most metres gained by any player on the night (559) 2nd best none other than Joe Daniher with 490

Hate to brag but check the match day thread:

’Melbourne … M …. Gawn … 3 votes’

I told youse.

Top 3 standout and then any number of players could have filled the next 3

6 - Gawn (a colossus all night)

5 - Petracca (brilliant)

4 - Viney (a beast)

3 - Melksham (dangerous & productive)

2 - Brayshaw (solid)

1 - Hunter (solid)

Unlucky - Pickett, McVee, Bowey, Rivers

One of the easier BOG's of all time I would've thought.

6 Gawn

5 Petracca - he was excellent and the the third best man on the ground behind Max and Daniher who was very nearly a matchwinner for the Lions.

4. Melksham - such a clever player, sometimes too cute but did a good job on Andrews and then proved to be the matchwinner.

3. Viney - an amazing defensive and offensive game, again!

2.Brayshaw - Gus doing the team things again

1. Pickett - Koz was back to somewhere near his best.

I really liked Rivers, Bowey and McVee.  I thought they displayed great poise and footy IQ.  All three of them could easily feature.

6 Gawn

5 Petracca

4 Gus

3 Melksham

2 Hunter

1 Viney

apologies to Kozzzy, JJ, Bowsa, Salem, Lingers, Riv, Mcvee, Sparrow, and Lever. Ok my top 15🤣🤣

We are building!

By the numbers;

6 Max Gawn

5 Christian Petracca

4 Jack Viney

3 Angus Brayshaw

2 Jake Melksham

1 Kysaiah Pickett

Honourable mentions;

Lachlan Hunter

James Jordan

Steven May

Alex Neal-Bullen

Trent Rivers

Tom Sparrow

Special mention;

Judd McVee

Adjudication;

Bounce downs at the centre square were by and large acceptable. Balls up were a bit of a  balls up, straight up and vertical gentlemen. Timid parabolic attempts are unacceptable. Last one of the match suggests senior umpire Nichols still has it in for Max.

Opposition hyperbole watch;

Eric 'the Hipster' Wood gets this week's reality check award for disputing the final contest of the match. The ball landed on Jake Lever's chest. Collect your free eye check from specsavers. A monocle is prescribed.

Broadcasters;

BT managed to read the tea leaves correctly during the last quarter. Predicted a Demon victory with two minutes to go. Nathan Jones' special comments were intelligent and insightful.

From the director's chair;

A come from the clouds win that will inspire belief.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

    I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

    The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

    The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
