It’s perhaps too early to put forward a balanced view after what just happened in Alice.  But here it goes. We won just about every stat there is to win except for kicking a winning score so……..perhaps desperately clutching at straws that is a plus so……….I still have some faith that we can turn things around.

BIG game coming up next week! I’ve already bought a ticket. In the coming weeks we will definitely find out if we are contenders or pretenders. GO DEES!!!!!

I think if we can kick straight next week we have a good chance of winning against the Saints. As shattered and frustrated as I am over the last two week's performances, I am optimistic we can turn things around.

I think if we can learn to execute simple skills anywhere near and around the forward 50, we can win the game and the premiership.

Sadly it’s been 78 years since we’ve had a functional forwardline and an ability to create meaningful entries forward.

Why suggest any changes? Goodwin will back the team in as they ‘did a lot of good things’ this week. No point in rewarding anyone who may be in any form in the 2s, that would make sense. Got to stick with the same group. Goodwin would probably pick fritsch this week if allowed

True, we barely rewarded anyone from a Casey team who only lost one game for the year last year while most of the senior team were apparently injured or underdone.

Genius.

Out: Brown (done - no strength to compete with current entry style), Smith, Harmes, Chandler, (Fritta injured)

Tomlinson goes back. Petty forward to cover for Fritsch.
Chandler doesn’t have the footy brain like Spargo and needs some goals in the magoos.

Time to blood Woey.

Why was BBB picked? It gets laughable when we can see these things days out and the Match Committee is playing 5th dimensional chess. They are a group of very smart men, losing at checkers. Footy is not easy, but it isn’t complicated. We complicate it, and we over think and it leads to dropping in form players for players coming back from injury, and playing talls in the wet.

Still pretty confused as to why they chose this game to bring him back

Goody's previous post match speeches he seems always upbeat and quotes we can take something away from the loss.Simply we can't play out four quarters and the fact he is not  a good coach. We possibly played too tall in the wet.We should have rested either Gawn or Grundy for either Jordan or Dunstan.  Goody is not willing to bring in new players to replace out of form ones. In JVR, Schache ,Woey ,Dunstan ,Howes  and Tomlinson or Turner   Out Brown ,Smith ,Grundy ,Pickett ,Harmes and Melksham. The kicker here is to play May at ff and Tomlinson or Turner fb.

JvR has to come in for Fritsch.

Other than that I have no idea what to expect. Chandler, Harmes, Melksham and Smith could easily go out but we don't like making that many changes.

Would like to see some good VFL form rewarded and we've had Woewodin, Howes, Turner, Laurie knocking on the door for a while now. How long until they start requesting trades for not getting a look in?

What he said. It is beyond me why Brown was picked for this game given the horrible weather forecast for AS.

Could not give a Tosca, season done, time to shake the joint up and play JVR and blood, Woey, Jefferson, and any others that have played well at Casey!

Jefferson? I appreciate your training reports but have you even seen him play? He had a good game today by his standards - not many touches, not very involved but a good effort with 4 goals. I discovered last week and today that he's also an excellent field kick. Having said that, he's miles far off a senior game. He's a stick insect and will need time to build up his body and application for AFL level.

What I want:

Taj Woewodin for Harmes
Jacob van Rooyen for Fritsch
Matthew Jefferson for Smith
Bailey Laurie for Chandler
James Jordon for Melksham

What I know will happen post listening to Goodwin's presser:

No change, maybe Melksham is in for Fritsch and Jordon as a sub.

van Rooyen has to play this week. It's laughable that they played Brown ahead of him in the wet. If Smith gets a game again well then I'll give up. Clarry must play this week can't see us winning without Fritsch and Clarry.

His forward pressure is excellent, he adds much needed structure as a forward target and can bob up for goals.

Either way we are screwed without Fritsch.

We can't keep playing forwards because they can defend, if they're not hitting the scoreboard enough: Smith, ANB, Chandler, Grundy, previously Spargo.

We obviously need a mix, but JVR was bringing sufficient forward half defensive pressure but with the ability to be a forward. Smith brings forward pressure but with no real forward ability. JVR brings at least equal, if not better, structure than Smith too.

With Fritsch out, we need natural forwards.  At the moment it's Brown and Pickett. The rest are in there to be role players. That mix is wrong.

I get the disappointment, but saying things like ‘I give up’ and ‘I don’t care’ simply isn’t true.

It’s after 10 on a Sunday night and you’re on Demonland. I’ve got some bad news for you. You care a lot.

Ok.. so change is need.

Out- Grundy, ANB, Kosi, Harmes & Fritta

In- JVR, Tomlinson, Woey, Laurie & Oliver.
Bowey or Salem to spend midfield minutes, Laurie needed forward as he can actually hit a target. Petty forward with JVR and Brown.

Out - ANB, Fritta, Chandler , BB, Smith, Harmes

In  Oliver, JVR, JJ, Tomlinson, Woey, Laurie

Agree with you...and they need to let Kossie play footy, not just play defend. Lesser players can play that role.

I would look at Bowey forward or on a wing. We need someone with smarts who has good depth & hits targets with his kicks, players or goals.

Too many role players forward of centre is indeed the wrong mix.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
