Van Rooyen is a beautiful set shot kick. Just smooth every time.

Lol, not so bad with the gather and around the body snap, either.

Shame we don't get a replay of that from Roo. Great play.

We should draft the younger Fritsch and the younger Van Rooyen and see if we can duplicate our forward lines at AFL/VFL level for a while. :D

I was unable to watch any of the game - a few questions please.
JVR presumably just being “rested” (horribly expression, I guess “managed” may be better)?

Jefferson getting any striver in the contest? Just a year behind JVR or more?

JJ - for too good for here? Surely he will request a move on

Verral - a year or two off maybe?  Showing any signs?

Thanks in anticipation.

He's going to rip the comp apart in 2 -3 years, expect him back in next week

He was ok today as the 3rd tall against poor opposition

Those 2 would often be rotating with unlisted player, George Grey, who went off injured in first quarter. I think they both enjoyed a bit more time on ball today and made most of it.

Thanks KC, Kev and all posters today. This was a game for the kids to shine today JJ, Turner, Smith, AMW, Howes, Woey, JVR, Laurie, Jefferson , Verrall, strongly supported by Dunstan, Schache, White, Bell and Munro plus a number of our Casey boys. What a great team effort. Go Casey.!!!

Agree JVR rested by not having to travel. Might be back in for the Saints. In and out of the game but had his moments.

Jefferson - can take a decent grab and a ripper kick (including field kicking), but still a way off - yet to apply much pressure to the opposition.

JJ had a great game and will push for selection again. Particularly strong first half with the Giants giving him plenty of room.

Verrall - didn't take the field after half time. Hope it's not another injury.

NO CORRESPONDENT

It was a strange day for the Demons across the country, it took Casey 60 inside 50s to produce a 96 point win while Melbourne scored five goals in Alice Springs going into the arc 73 times.

In the absence of a Casey correspondent for Sunday’s game due to KC’s unavailability, here’s coverage from Around the state leagues on the AFL site.

James Jordon continued to push his claim for a regular starting spot in the senior side with a strong performance in Casey's thumping 96-point win over Greater Western Sydney on Sunday.

Jordon finished with a game-high 41 disposals, seven marks, five tackles, seven clearances and kicked a goal.

Young spearhead Jacob van Rooyen responded to his omission from the top side in emphatic fashion, kicking an equal game-high four goals to go with his eight marks.

Son-of-a-gun Taj Woewodin was a strong contributor with three goals and six marks to go with his 26 disposals, while midfielder Luke Dunstan collected 31 touches and had four clearances.

First-year forward Matthew Jefferson had a day out with four goals and five marks, while Andy Moniz-Wakefield (three goals) and Mitch White and Josh Schache (two goals apiece) were also busy up forward.

Bailey Laurie (25 disposals, three clearances), Blake Howes (24, six marks) and Daniel Turner (22, six) were solid.”

Managed is the term for JVR.  We must not forget the kid is only 19 and wouldn't have played as many games as he has so far if BBB and TMac were available.  But after this performance he will only get 1 weeks "rest" in the VFL.

Jefferson kicks 4, but easy ones.  The kid has huge potential, reads the play, great pair of hands, but has little physical presence yet.  He also has to learn to jump off the ground when going for marks.  Not close to senior selection, but will be next year.

JJ just too good, and after this showing must replace Harmes next week.

Verrell.  Only his 2nd game, actually did better last week, but again a long way from senior selection, especially for a ruck.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
