Apologies if already posted. My Magpies friend reckons Cox has Covid and Daicos and Maynard have the flu.

David Zita just confirmed this on Fox.

Both Daicos brothers with the flu, scheduled to attend an event tonight but it was cancelled.

I think they should forfeit DJ. and we take the 4 points. Hate to think what our guys might catch if the pies play.

Top 2 was never really on the cards even top 4 is a struggle with Coll Port, Lions  virtual lock ins.

Where would you rather finish  3rd  or 5th. 3rd and we likely play Port in SA or 5th and play Essendon or Stkilda at the MCG. Ill take the fifth.

If our players are fit and well managed we can win it from there. Lose a top 4 final and you play 4 to win the flag same as 5-8.

I'd probably prefer to finish 4th than 3rd. Close to as big a chance beating Collingwood on the MCG as Brisbane or Port away. It's a no-brainer you want to finish Top 4 no matter who you're playing. Finish 3rd and there's still a good chance of beating Port in Adelaide, then a Prelim at the MCG, and Grand Final (possibly although unlikely even against an Interstate Team). You lose a Qualifying and there's still that 2nd chance, a Home Semi against the 6th or 7th team. Finish 5th and you need to win all 4 games, including an Interstate Away Semi, and another Away Prelim. Basically we're comparing winning 3 games, at least one and possibly 2 of which are at Home against winning 4 with the only Home Game being the Elimination Final.

Thought this would happen as early as Tuesday when Howe fronted up to 360 having just recovered from COVID but still feeling the effects.

Still if we manage a win it’ll be with asterisks - I’d prefer we play them at full tilt

I disagree entirely. I'd prefer we win the game because we need the win. Anything that helps us achieve that I'll gratefully accept. You can afford to be noble when you're 4 games clear on top of the ladder.

There's an instagram post with BBB and a bandage on his knee. Also seems he had a compression bandage on his leg before the photo. Hopefully he hasn't needed a clean out

Presume Pie players who are sick would be responsible citizens and stay home Monday so as to not risk spreading their disease.

We don’t have a CHF to do what Geelong do to Collingwood which is hit up Jeremy Cameron often at the point of the centre square. It was nice to see Fritsch up the ground in the second half v Carlton rather than always attempting to break Josh Jenkins’ record for out the back goals but at best he’s Kmart Jezza and undersized at centre half forward.

We won’t be able to use Petracca as a de facto CHF without Oliver or braving significant midfield minutes to small forwards. And none of Chandler, Spargo, ANB or Pickett have shown the ability to rack up big touches through half forward - which isn’t their fault, they’d have to be super human to win a stack of ball from long down the line footy.

This was No.1 on my Disney Wish List for this week onwards (and in reality has been for weeks now)...

1.  For CB / 666...(and also in a general sense)

Please start Gawn / Grundy or whoever is playing as a KF alongside Roohey at or around the more true CHF position.

Not 25 - 30 meters out from goals or in the goal square alongside Roohey!???

How often have i watched a bail out kick from the middle under pressure dumped to the true CHF area only only to see the likes of Kozzy, Spargo, ANB or even Harmes on one or two occasions trying to take a contested mark in vain.

And / or no one there... and the oppo runs into the space for the easy intercept & rebound.

Gawn / Grundy (and/or Schache, BB or Macca when fit) can also present from there on lateral leads across the arc or just back of it as a moving mobile target instead of straight lining at the ball carrier, which is often easier for the KBs to defend.

I'm not even expecting a hit up lead around here.... just someone who can stand and clunk the odd mark but mostly get the ball to ground to one of our smalls.

Instead our smalls and small/mediums are attempting to play the role of a big CHF at times.  Other times its the invisible man!

Crazy stuff imv.

How about we all just think what we want to think and you don’t come here and get aggressive or rude towards my opinion, just as I have not done towards yours.

I couldn’t give a single [censored] what you think about our odds of winning the game. So why do you care about what I think?

I am so over this attitude on Demonland where nobody is allowed to say anything other than “we are a great team and we will win the flag”, without someone having a go at them.
Oliver out is a massive loss. He’s twice the player De Goey is. And I am entitled to be disappointed and worried about his absence from this match. I’m sure the club isn’t thrilled that he’s missing either.

Edit: let’s also not forget that for the past 6 or so seasons the Pies have lived rent free in our heads. When we were good and they were terrible, they still beat us. They have the wood over us, and psychologically we are coming in on the back foot. To suggest this is not going to be a tough game to win is just wrong.

Okay continue, doing what you do, go on to game day threads saying what you think in the moment forgetting this is a quick game and embarrassing yourself it’s great for an adult

They need to win games like that against the worst teams at that venue. Simple as that.

Collingwood aren’t unbeatable but they just win at the minute, and that’s all that matters.

If we are to beat them we have to be near perfect defensively and effective going forward.

Bounce that pill.

Do they (need to win games like that)?

We played the hawks about the same stage of the 2021 season. On our home deck.

They were no better then than they are now.

We had about the same win loss record as the lions did ahead of today's match. Maybe even ladder position.

We drew that match.

I well recall the gnashing of teeth on here, and plenty of posters declaring we were pretenders not contenders.

How could a serious contender only mansge a draw against the hawks yada yada yada.

Not beating the hawks didn't seem to harm our chances of winning a flag.

For the pies to beat us, they will have to be perfect offensively and effectively stop our mutiple scoring options (AFL #1).

I have presented my opinion, it is not an opinion made up in the moment. I have plenty of proof to back up the fact that Pies are in better form than us, have beaten more top 8 sides than us, and have had the wood over us in recent years.

If you have a problem with people having an opinion that doesn’t match your own, maybe you should rethink posting here.

As I’ve said again and again, nobody is forcing anyone to be here, or read anything written here. Pre, during or post games.

I am not the one following your posts around being rude and calling you embarrassing for having an opinion. A very grown up behavior indeed.
This is the last response you’ll get from me. As I’m not here to be belittled by someone who can’t understand how a discussion works.

I reckon the Lions inability to win at the G is the real story.

They did beat us there in finals last year tho 😒

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
