Having the extra tall defender helped Lever and May tonight.

Now can we get a key forward in please...

The dog just walked up in front of the tv and wiped his butt on the rug. [just wasn’t quick enough to get a photo].
Not pretty but effective.  Important 4 points.
Now the dog is scratching the blind to say it’s time for a wee and bed, so let’s shift focus to next week for a GF preview.

McVee! Is he the future skillful midfielder we're looking for? Josh Kelly-esque

Could be. I think this sometimes. When I see us play like sh*t most weeks. I see McVee out there hitting targets. He could be that mid next year.

Really good game from our perspective. Got that solidity behind the ball back. Really good signs.

Contested possession +148.

inside 50s +20.

clearances +9.

Smashed them all over the ground. I don’t know what most people want from the team. Without looking, I assume it’s just groupthink from the Gameday thread.

It was an ugly game but not an ugly performance. Did plenty of things right just didn't execute well. I'm sure they will put it behind them.

This week our key focus was forward connection and cleaning up efficiency 😂

I would argue we took another step back on both of those metrics.  That was horrible to watch, I can totally understand why some Dees fans are loathe to attend games if this is what is being served up.

We have learnt nothing from years of bombing the ball forward, it just won't sink in.

Goods:  Defence was excellent.  Trac was immense, Fritsch and Lever pleasingly back into form and the people who kept calling for JVR to 'have a rest' clearly have no idea.  One thing he hasn't looked is tired.

Won't be revisiting this one.  Another week of practising forward entries on the track before Collingwood tears us a new one!

Some good signs back. Won clearances and contested possessions well. Poor set shot kicking kept Carlton in the game.

Back-line was great tonight. Forward line did well to keep the ball inside 50. Thought we were on top for most of the game the connection is just not quite right at the moment. Still eleven games to go before finals.

Not huge amount to like. But the performance of the kids McVee, Sparrow, Bowey, JvR and to an extent Rivers was pleasing.

I am worried about Kozzie though. One highlight goal and not much else.

Maxy got back into form the second half of that game I felt. Started taking big grabs again. Good signs for him. He plays well, everyone else plays well.

Onwards to the pies.

Gosh just love Maxy.  From wheeling little Charlie the kid they've had around the club this week into the team song huddle, to a positive but humble interview.  Although in the course of writing this he made a terrible joke about trying to pay Jordan to say something positive 😂

When you sober up I suggest you watch the replay, you might see how it really went...

Tomlinson was just ok on a very good player, but he freed up Lever which made our backline look 9000 times better. We have to keep another tall down there to make sure he can play his natural intercept game. It’s so critical to how we play.

Sure McKay had 9 marks and 3 goals but several of his marks were unstoppable and Tomlinson's  presence allowed the back half talls to work as a unit - in particular Lever was back towards his intercepting best.

JVR continues to impress.

McVee, Salem, Rivers and Bowey until injured are such a cohesive unit - never worry when they have the ball.

And van roo was excellent

Can we keep Tomlinson in the side and play Schache over Smith next week?

Clearly missed the game - I'm jealous.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
