Steely Dan the best studio band ever. Getting back to the thread, I would love a smashing of Carlton and see the in fighting start in earnest. Both were up there for sure. Steely still in very high demand. Recently listed their Ozzy 1977 'AJA' Vinyl LP on eBay which had 5 different bidders. Condition was ok but not all that great either (clearly described as such) but it still went off! Edited May 31, 2023 by Demon Dynasty 1
YearOfTheDees 3,266 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 I am so sick of hearing about Carlton this week, we need to come out in the first quarter and put them to the sword. If we don't and give them even a sniff we will be in trouble. 2

AFL members are forced to pay $10.00 on top of membership for a seat at the G, for many games, instead of just being allowed to walk up. The fixturing is completely unfair and of its own, makes the whole competition a compromised sport. The umpiring is inconsistent. The MRO and Tribunal are a joke. The media because of accreditation are sycophants, too scared to report honestly. Everything is a deal, or fixed by a deal. Players now are unsure how to play the game and as an example, against Freo, I watched Melbourne players actually hesitate before going for the ball or tackling. Games being played on school nights, so families are denied the ability of attending. Blasting music so loud you can’t talk to people next to you. Excessive Politicising of the game. My love of the game has been severely diminished by its administrators, who couldn't run a BBQ without giving everyone food poisoning. I detest the direction of the game, that these people have taken it in and I am not referring to efforts to make it safer. Yes they have improved the viewing facilities, with some new grounds and refurbishments, but they have imo achieved little else. At least I have my memories of hard, tough, skillful footy, umpired reasonably, with penalties at Tribunals that were pretty consistent and people loving the game and actually living for it. I nominate this as the BEST POST OF THE YEAR!!!!! 15

The question then is who goes to Curnow? I don't think Lever can go with him athletically, so maybe Hibbo? Gives up height, but can run and has enough strength to compete? Im not too worried about their midfield, I think we have the advantage there, particularly with our rucks. The big issue will be our forwards; we should be able to create more space for targets, but can they take marks and convert, or will it be back to the backyard sprinkler? Curnow is a very tricky one - my thoughts are to play May on him. Charlie is an overhead and man on man beast and I feel May has the spoil, aggression and overhead capacity to at least challenge him. I'd bring Thommo back to sit McKay, send Spargo or Chandler back to Casey and move Bowey to half forward. - the bloke can kick straight Lever can float as is his best role. Fair chance it's going to be slippery, so lots of ground ball for our smaller forwards who ought be under strict instructions to leave the overhead work to Tmac,JVR and Fritta. Gawn and Reg Grundy to drift back behind the play and bolster defence. 1
Roost it far 10,135 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Bring Schache in and tell him if he wants to play with the big boys then shut down Curnow.

Yeah the whole afl is depressing. The emperor has no clothes, the afl say black is white and nobody calls them out. says a lot that Craig Hutchinson now has power and influence over afl decisions, far in excess of his capacity for a thoughtful contribution. After hearing the Cerra outcome and the contents of the buried press conference last night, I’m feeling more and more like the fool.

bobby1554 1,275 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Carlton will be up and about this week, after the blowtorch being applied to them. And I think they will win. Unless the following can happen: Petracca can have another 40 possession game and kick a few Max can start dominating around the ground and forward when he goes there Lever can be that intercept beast that we once knew Pickett can play four quarters, instead of four minutes 2
JimmyGadson 3,455 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 (edited) Here's one thing I'd love to see. Players to keep their feet. May to keep his feet when the ball is on the ground in dispute. Is that too much to ask? I've never seen a big guy flop on the ground as often as him and he has allowed countless goals eventuate because of this. Would also like our captain to keep his feet more often instead of dropping to the ground playing for frees. Sure he gets whacked etc but I'd much rather he just keep playing ball and let the frees come when they come. Edited May 31, 2023 by JimmyGadson 1

Too much information perhaps but "p" run into "f" does sound a bit like "f". It was the best that the ancient Greeks could do a couple of thousand years ago last Tuesday, when the "f" sound came back into use in their language. The dedicated letter of diagamma had disappeared due to lack of use. Phono-etc words come from the Greek words φωνή (phonē, 'sound' or 'voice'). Hence the odd spelling. Similarly, the naughty frenchies spelled the Anglo-Saxon "ch" sound as "tch" i.e. catch, hatch. They ran together the "t" sound with the "sh" sound that they rendered as "ch" e.g. chalet, mon petit chou. 1 1

May + Lever less capable 3rd = Struggle Street May +Lever+ Petty... =sweet May works much better when he can seemingly bark the ideas...as does Lever... but they need the "polishers" to make it look truly pretty. Salem and Petty do this well. Salem was ( in that Big Dance that mattered) the 'pilot' of the back 50. He's been missed ( imho ) Salem makes much better decisions coming out of defence. I believe Lever and May like having the cool calm Salem to sweep the ball into rebound. I think May is unsettled without that 3rd and 4th wheel.

I imagine that the Ancient Greeks did not give a stuff, with Constantinople having fallen on April 29, 1453. (Yes, desperate but certainly not dateless). However, the educated class in the 19th Century, was mad for Ancient Greek (as well as Latin). They coined new words based on the Ancient Greek language, e.g. phonogram, telephone, phoneme, saxophone. The alternative explanation that those were just the letters that came out of the scrabble bag, seems rather far-fetched. 1
