Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hate to say it but that is the circumstance under which we are instructed to play, as you describe.

It's a flawed plan when you don't have a forward that can take a contested mark or crumbers that can capitalise.

Maybe Goodwin realises that our outside mids (Langdon, ANB, etc) don't have the skill to pass a ball to a bloke on the lead?

So did Lever. Well my day didn’t go so well, the drive in was pleasant and the pie was hot But Jacko turned up to play possibly his best game on the G Freo made the most of their opportunities and racked up a lot of uncontested possessions in our forward line which we seemed ok with as they did it whenever we looked a bit lively. Although one of our best Max is right off his game at present. Lever is being exposed down back by us not playing the third tall. We continued to bomb the ball into the forward 50 with total oblivion and managed a miserable 10.12 and three out on the full. Where has our accuracy gone?? The Dockers had a game plan that they stuck to by playing wide and maintaining possession at times we seemed quite clueless. It was a quiet drive home football wise.😪😢

You summed it well l went. Quiet drive home.

Well as bad as some say we are, would you agree that if we kicked straight we would have won.

That is what in many respects makes it so infuriating.

Yeah I'd say there's a 5 out of 7 chance  I'd agree with that.

I can’t believe I’ve seen a few mentions of “loading”. That was the biggest myth last year and it’s a “head-in-the-sand” mentality.

We’re not going to win the flag this year and we’ll be lucky to win one final.

It honestly amazes me how a premiership can carry a reputation for much longer than what a team deserves. We’re a middle of the road side this year but media experts just can’t seem to finally say it. On the flip side, Port are not a “team on the rise” as they made consecutive prelims in 20-21, and neither are the Dogs who made a GF in ‘21, they both just had a down year in ‘22.

At least we changed our kick in strategy today..... that's something.

The really poor form of our tall forward's this year is one of the main reasons we are struggling. We were forced to move petty forward. Then he gets injured playing forward. That move has made our defence look flimsy. Lever can't intercept because he has to take a man. May is trying hard but he needs help. We need a key back to come in and help them. Tommo or Turner. Clearance work needs to be more than boot it forward and hope for the best.

We seem a very unhappy team atm. Lots of guys yelling at each other. The team have looked flat and heavy legged in the last 2 games.

With the excess of medium defenders, wld love them to trial Bowie at half fwd to see if we can use his foot skills / decision making.

All the other small fwds have really dropped off in form the last month or so.

Chin back to Casey. Kossie and Spargs on thin ice.

We are the best bombing in side in the competition. Why aren't we winning?

Why can't JVR hold his marks against 3 opponents?

I give up for this season

Accoridng to the data on the tv, it was a high pressure game.  Freo have a very good defence and we breathe it many time.  But, simply they were more accurate than us in front of game.  Bad kicking for goal cost us the game.

It felt like Freo were at 200 most of the game. Possibly dropped off in the third and early in the first, but otherwise, they brought the heat.

On LJ. Maybe Darcy going off was the best thing for him. Not for us but he got to show what he is made of. He took the responsibility. Maybe the WA newspaper will give him a break.

You know what really sucks. We are losing and Essendon and Collingwood are winning. Yuck

We clearly sat Toby down and said you'll be playing more. Not to mention he did play last year. He was also an NGA talent for us, so we developed him from a young age.

Look at Chandler, he stuck fat and is now getting regular games.

We don't know exactly what went on behind closed doors, but I'd be disappointed if I were the club.

Understand he was a NGA product. Not so sure about the clearly told that he would get more game time though. If so as a Victorian boy would you rather play on the MCG every 2nd week or in front of 5000 people at Blacktown. I am disappointed he left as I am sure the club is…. Still can’t blame him for wanting more game time.

It doesn’t get any softer than this.

Max Gawn needs to take a good hard look at himself.

I’ve seen stronger leadership from a Mark Latham campaign.

Little harsh Titan and I do resent being told that all my posts attack other Demonlanders. I've seen and been on the receiving end of much worse attacks from yourself to be honest.

I'm not attacking anyone personally and am simply questioning some pretty useless statistics that are brought up lately to make people feel better about a team that all of a sudden can't score.

As you said there is plenty to discuss though and am happy to do that.

I have no idea what you’re talking about in terms of me attacking you. But that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Let me know via DM perhaps.

My point remains though. You’re entitled to be upset with the game and the season to date. But you posted a number of times in a way which denigrates those of us who chose during the week to look at the positives and what we could work with - which, at 7-3, is hardly an unreasonable thing to have done.

I listened to Binman talk about it every week last year saying we were primed for finals and then I watched us go out in straight sets.

Not sure of the stats but seemed like we were denigned scores from turnover today.

Didn't find too much open fwd line entries.

Sourced from AFL.com, We only scored 2.5 (17) from defensive half scoring chains, despite being ranked No.1 in the comp (averaging 40). In other words, Freo went to work on a ball movement.

If true, why is this? Why do our opponents regularly bring their best pressure against us?

Arguing that “they know pressure is our weakness” is silly because pressure is every side’s weakness. Sides would bring elite pressure all 23 weeks if they could. But for most, they can’t.

But why us? Do we invite it somehow? Does the stat go up because we fumble and they get another point for a repeat tackle or something? Is it up because ours is down? (I don’t think it’s this because our pressure was high last week v Port). Do they just view us as a massive threat and gee themselves up for us - the whole “hunter vs hunted” mentality? Is it just plain bad luck?

That game reminded me a fair bit of the GWS game in 2021 that we lost at the G.

Overcast day, indigenous jumper, expected to win, conceded a 3 goal lead in the 3rd qtr, kept coming back but they always had the answers.

Only difference is Freo were extremely accurate and that’s what won them the game.

I think Goodwin hinted that we won the game on expected scores.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
