I'm an MCC member, and always sit there. FWIW I'm also a MFC member!

I can't believe that the MCC allows filth people in as members. Surely there should be proper vetting procedure.

I can say that there are plenty of MCC members who aren't doctors/lawyers etc. Anyone can join (subject of course to paying entry fee/annual fees) ... So, to that extent it isn't elitist. 

One of the worst experiences I recently had was at the finals last year. It was a filth match. Sitting behind me was an elegant woman (a radio/tv personality) with her husband (filth supporter) and their daughter, who looked about 12 y.o. The husband spent the entire match yelling (aggressive) abuse at the umpires, and telling her daughter that there was a conspiracy against Collingwood. What a shocking example to his daughter? To answer the obvious question, I would have moved if I could, but the area was full. 

I hate the filth.

You're not one of those MCC members who leaves their scarves across seats to save them, while you're off having dinner are you? Because as the attendants always say, you're not supposed to do this. It's prohibited.

That particular approach gives me the S's. We pay $10 a ticket to reserve seats at the big games. It's worth it. Then we can turn up whenever we want.

Totally agree about the importance of young supporters.  Play well, we get the kids on board.  Continue to play well, we keep these kids.  These kids become adults, celebrate their team success with "special cuddles" and boom, one member becomes one plus a few junior members.  Keep playing well demons, keep the fans happy and leave the rest to biology!  A negative of this theory is Collingwood.  They are playing well.  Their fans are happy.  I can't type the rest as I now feel very ill.

Disagree. The only good thing to come out of the pandemic was you're now allowed to drink in your seat in the members!!

i have sat in the mcc twice for Melbourne games and the atmosphere sucks one being Anzac eve last year.  It’s dead and quiet and is the reason our crowd seems so quiet compared to other Melbourne sides.

personally prefer the zoo of the afl reserve.

I have to disagree on the atmosphere in the MCC. My first 16 odd years of watching Melbourne I was in the outer. The last 15 years in the members and the members is better for atmosphere mostly because it's a pro-Melbourne crowd compared to the outer.

But I can't reiterate enough how much I love your work on ticket stuff!!

I grew up going to test cricket with my dad, it was simple if you want to leave your seat you wait for the end of the over. Same thing should apply with the footy, a goal or quarter time (each direction). 
 

I did get into an argument with security last summer though, they didn’t like where I was standing and told me I had to get to my seat, I tried explaining the etiquette of waiting until the end of the over but they weren’t having it

It's a slow burn to become a big club but in the meantime we can still be in contention year after year. In the recent past the Cats, Swans, Pies and Hawks have all been in contention for a lot longer than the traditional 5 year window

So why can't we be that same sort of club?

The salary cap and being on top of recruiting can ensure success ongoing (if success is being perennial finalists along with the ultimate success when everything goes right)

I've often felt that it's easier to remain in contention than it is to start all over again after bottoming out. 

Make the wrong moves when down near the cellar and you stay there. Support drops off and infighting surfaces

Where as if you've got a strong list, never get complacent and keep improving the list. 

At the end of this season we'll have at least 4 draft picks in the first 2 rounds plus ... we can improve that position if we have a need to offload surplus to needs

Adding a couple more midfield stars along with a gun key forward and maybe a top key back will keep us up there

So the list is never complete.  It evolves and must be improved upon year after year

We need new young supporters and lots of them ... 10's of thousands in fact

Do that and we'll be loud & proud (and big)

Sorry it wasn't a question to you. Should have been "Why would they?". I'm in full agreement with you.

I couldn't give a stuff about food and beverages or entertainment or any of that prima donna garbage.

And I don't want to go get another round, I go to watch the game, that is that and precisely the stuff that drives me crazy.

You're way out of date. Tickets are issued for every seat on arrival on Level 2 (coach's level) & 3 (press box level).

 The scarf on the seat has not been a thing for more than a decade, maybe since Neale was at the helm.

Thank you, greatly appreciated, I spend far too much time of my life obsessing over weird things.

i agree that the atmosphere is far more pro Melbourne but I come from the AFL reserve where the atmosphere is full of hostile barracking and I am one of the few Melbourne supporters in there that that stick up for us. Unfortunately the MCC wouldn’t appreciated my shouting so I stick to the southern stand with all the ferals like me :)

I am of the  "other", and I feel aggrieved that money makes such a difference to participation and perks.

The higher social class gives members in that family so many more opportunities and ease to success, than the majority,  is amazing to me.

Given I have had to pay to upgrade my GA tickets, and the seat is not any better, it is making even a H&A game an expensive experience. 

Your experiences are different to mine. I feel I have no power to change that, and that it is in the hand of your class to impact and tear down the walls. Within that structural separation, I wonder if I can still call you my brother or sister. Tempted to call you "boss" or "master", as the lower classes slip further away from the Aussie dream of egalitarianism. 

I know I have unrealistic expectations but, the world is accelerating towards a greater separation of us.

I'm truely shocked by this Kev. I understood you live close to the MCG and by that definition alone you are in an elite position. I grew up in Doveton in a Housing Commission home and Mrs Dw grew up  in Syndal and went to Syndal Tech. When our kids got older and she could come to the footy with me again, I knew I had to buy her a Redleg Membership so we could sit among fellow supporters or the alternative was to get into fights with oppo supporters. I definitely don't look on us as "others" but I do understand how the divide is getting greater. The way things are going you may be seeing more people slipping back. One thing I will never do is forget where I came from. As to egalitarianism I don't believe that has ever existed but I can say that in my experience Australia is still one of the best countries in the world in which to live.

For sure. AF is right though, there seems to be even more of an urge for people to get up from their seats and nick off to the bar. I literally had a guy coming back and wanting to get through during one of our set shots early in the last quarter when the game was in the balance. So annoying.

It's a joke the way Collingwood-supporting journos say that fans will stop hating Collingwood because they are playing such an attractive game style under McCrae. It's been claimed so often by these delusional fools who sit in the rarefied atmosphere of the commentary boxes.

The truth is that exposure to real Collingwood supporters behaving as they do in their natural element means the rest of us will maintain the hate...or loathing as the case may be. I know a couple of them who are OK and sane, but mostly they are scum.

Part of me is dreading going to Monday's game, but like others on this site, it's what I do.
