Viney unsighted.

Anb ditto.

Kozzie...se Anb

Tracc having a night off...maybe his ankle.

I've called out Max and Lever.

I'd do the same for Tmac but it's a given.

We should be 40 down.

Well done Fritta.

Top 4 side v a maybe finalists at this rate.

God help us against cwood.

We can't stick tackles, late to every contest. Can't mark and can't win a clearance.

Other than that we're on fire.

Midfield has gone MIA. Zero clearances that quarter. WTF is going on? Ruck dominance means nothing if you can’t win clearances and we are seeing nothing much in aerial dominance around the ground. If our mids don’t pressure the ball carrier they won’t be kicking long down the line.

Was there a replay of Oliver’s throw?

Three free kicks against Clarry for throws. Wtf

There’s a real hesitation that creeps over the team when teams bring proper heat. We’ve got midfield ‘bulls’ being torched by 75kg whippets, 100kg+ ruckman getting knocked around by flankers and the aerial presence of an emu

Love Max, but gee he’s soft when targeted, doesn’t throw his weight around and cause fear, Grundy is worse, whenever we play Port Allih Allih always plays a dominant game and we can’t compete with his body work

We are simply way too reactive in seeing how the opposition plays.

Heres a thought, be proactive and hunt the ball and player. We’re a bunch of individuals out there at the moment. A shadow of our 2021 selves.

Just got to crack in through the centre, it baffles me we are getting smashed this badly with the stars we have at each centre bounce.

need to lower our eyes going inside f50 as well.

Max needs to show some aggression and throw his weight around. We’ve become too nice as a team.

Yep they're paying frees against us every time we go near it anyway, may as well make them earn it! Our tackling and pressure has been putrid, same as last time we played at this ground.

Should be game over really.

What I will say is this - Christian Petracca is not going hard enough when it’s his turn. It’s constantly being said by Trac how guys like Sparrow & JJ etc do all the hard work which allow guys like himself to thrive elsewhere. Well that’s not always the case Trac - you have to go when it’s your turn to go… some really really poor tackling attempts that QTR.

So good to have Steven May back in fine touch, we’d be cooked without him tonight.

Once again, getting a hiding out of the middle, in particular centre square bounces.

Couldn't have played any worse tbh & only a couple goals down - count your blessings thus far Melbourne.

True we couldn't play much worse and Port have been fantastic. Yet it's only 2 goals the difference.

The one and only redeeming factor is the margin

Every weakness we have (and they are significant) is being exposed. 1. Our inability to hold the ball in attack…..Port are simply easing themselves out of our attacking 50. 2. Our inability to prevent fast ball movement through the middle and across angles. 3. Our own inability to move the ball with any degree of innovation out of defence = they’re just waiting create a ground ball and pushing easily back inside 50. 4. And this might be the worst, an inability to match the best sides for pressure and contested ball when they bring that game to us. We’re being out-worked, out-run, out-contested, out-tackled, basically out-played by every measure that counts. At the risk of going early, cos somehow we’re still in this game, we’re not legitimate flag contenders.

You can’t lose clearances 0-10 against a very good midfield and then pile it on the defenders. It’s like shooting Bambi.

Every time we touch one of their players they attack us. When it’s us we do nothing. Max being attacked and no one stands up. Pathetic.

Umpires as putrid as our disposal.

This kicking to the left is just killing us. They have sent it back every single time.

Too many players down, Viney, ANB, Kozzie and Tracc need to lift.

Anyone knocking May isn’t watching.

Get a new midfield coach please.

Thanks for your time Yze, but it's utter disbelief that we can have an elite midfield/ ruckman combination and get absolutely slaughtered 11-0 clearences their way in that quarter.

I don’t think it’s Yze. Trac towelled up by Rowell, now JHF is doing a number on him. His got to get off his high horse and put in the defensive effort.

Our whole midfield have no defensive accountability- they play dumb and selfish all sitting off forward side of the contest waiting for the cheapy.

I said this game will tell us a lot and it is damning. And can we maybe do something about groundballs?

They are going after Gawn. Hoping to see him get support from his team mates.

We are still in touch, "Fritta".

There are a few passengers and the role players don't seem to be doing the job of limiting Ports game plan.

We are not travelling well (MCG great).

Re-group, reset and get the ball, don't give it back, and create.

Also let’s tag butters and rozee please.

We are indeed a very soft side. Don’t have a shred of nastiness in us.

We have an odd style this year try to soak up as much oppo attack as possible then run home hard…not sure it’s a great idea to let so many shots at goal though

if I remember in 2021 when we played Brisbane in Sydney, we looked [censored] and were 20 odd down at half time, maybe three quarter time and won the game

Do we have gears? we couldnt play any worse, we have been a great second half team all year.

let back em in

Ive said it before and I’ll say it again.

Why are we so putrid in clearances??

Because we win the tap, which goes to one of our mids with a player sweating on him because they set up knowing we will win the tap. Which is frustrating as [censored] because we can see it, so why don’t our coaches see it and do something different like instruct the ruck to hit the ball 15m on a 45degree angle occasionally so the ball clears the immediate contest.

What a bad way to start the weekend if we lose.

The thing is we know we can play much better than this and our top players haven't really got into the game. I'm hoping we turn this around.

We just need to harden up here.

I’d love for someone to put Powell-Pepper on his [censored]. My most hated player and an absolute waste of skin.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
