Absolutely, they have set the standards and now need the consistency, that has been lacking.

Making JVR the scapegoat, should send another message to everyone. Really hope that they do it, but past results show they won't.

Will turn on whether or not he took his eyes off the ball. From the footage that they're showing (from behind) it looks like he did, and that's why there's the penalty. If the club can show otherwise I'd imagine that they'd appeal.

There are many silly, corrupt, or evil practices that would cease to exist if the participants did not generally comply with certain putative norms. Put simply, the MFC, and therefore its members, of which there are many on 'Land, are complicit in supporting this oppressive, systematic racket, dressed up as a judicial system. This is not about Michael Christian or any other individual, but insidious, systematic injustice, that transcends individual actors. Sooner or later, someone or something, must take a stand to root out systematic oppression within the whole system. It is clear the emperor has no clothes, for the AFL judicial system has acquired both a power and personality of its own, operating in a closed system, accountable only to itself.

What is needed is an outside force that takes a drastic action upon the interlocking forces that composes the system. If successful, this usually results in the movement of the entire system. One person or organisation can change a system, which in turn changes other systems, forming a network of cascading changes unimaginable from the point of the first contemplative action.

Numerous such actions have been taken against the previous incarnation of the VFL, and the modern AFL, that exposed disorder, hypocrisy, highlighted political and moral U-turns, and punctured bombastic posturing. Maybe the time has come to expose the emperor again and the institutionalisation of trickery at all levels.

I maintain my view that this wasn't a reportable offence. I want us to appeal.

There are a number of things I'd argue in this order:

1. It's not a reportable offence. It's an attempt to spoil gone wrong. Fogarty did the exact same thing on Murphy last week and (correctly) wasn't penalised.
2. It's not a strike. Wrong charge laid.
3. If those two fail, then at the absolute least we need to look at downgrading the impact grading from "high" to at least "medium", if not "low". The reports are Ballard's injury was minor. That's not "high" impact. It's not the sort of action which, like a bump or a sling tackle, can obviously lead to catastrophic injury. This is an outstretched arm trying to spoil a ball and contacting the head. It's "medium" or "low" and should stay that way.

King and Montagna on ‘First Crack’ reckon Melbourne will appeal to the Tribunal, and JVR will be free to play next week.  I hope they are correct!  The integrity of the game is imperative!

Wouldn't he want to look so he can show duty of care and not hit the guy in the head with his fist. It was his follow through that got him. A collision was going to occur. More assessment to the guy after hitting Kossie's leg may have been required. 

How does he avoid that, unless he goes half-hearted, doesn't make it and pulls up.

The AFL MRO, must have decided you cannot run into other players at full power. I want consistency. 

If consistent, then, players cannot knock over packs anymore and knees to the head when marking have to be against the rules.

And contact was actually made with the inner upper arm - generally one of the softest areas on the body. Yes JVR made high contact (free kick) and the guy fell awkwardly but this is NOT a STRIKE and never will be. 
Seeing someone go off on a cart always rings alarm bells and demands close scrutiny but clearly Mr Christiansen just listened to the commentators and filled two weeks out of his hat or more likely a far less attractive bodily orifice.

Since when did the AFL give a stuff about integrity?

It is all about money, present and future.
I wonder when and if  if Sportsbet offer odds on MRO decisions or tribunal outcomes.

Before Christian became the MRO, he had a summer radio show with Mick McGaune, filling in the long slow hours between seasons, and they were both of the mind that the public want to see the best players playing, and that it's some kind of outrage against the game to do anything to prevent them playing. Right out of the box, the wrong man for the job.

Another point.. if Bowey went off on a stretcher (as a precaution) after being hit by Chol, does Chol also get two weeks? Did JVR only cop a suspension because the stretcher came out?

Really seems like it. If Bowey got concussion Chol would be out for 1 or 2

1000%. If Ballard gets up and plays the game out this is not even a 50m penalty. 
 

Suns have confirmed Ballard is fine anyway. He felt something in the back of the neck (which is odd since JVR made contact with his face), and so a stretcher had to be called. It’s standard practice for all suspected neck injuries.

King also reckons the Gold Coast were robbed and that umpires changed the result of the game. Highlighting 3 incidents in the last quarter, ignoring the first three. Fox Footy are a bunch of morons..

let’s ask the AFL to inplement cricket hot spot technology and we can all watch Gawns and what he cops week in, week out from attempted ‘spoils’.   They’d be no defenders left to defend in the comp.

That incident should have got 5 weeks.  Clumsy accident my backside. 

Hawkins was flailing about all over the place hoping something would connect. 

This notion that players do stuff like that by accident is garbage, it was far less of a football action than either of Kossies or JVR's incidents, because he had the ball and wasn't contesting it.  He was aggressively fending off May.
