It is not news that I am not a fan of women’s footy however last night Tayla won a champion ship  fight to be 8 wins 1 draw and zero losses. The thing that impressed me is that a large number of her demon team mates were there to cheer her on and then carried her from the ring. What a great spirit this group has. Who would bet against them in the next season.

They're a great group...congrats Tayla

They’ll be strong favourites to go back to back. Only injuries or bad luck will stop them.

Good fight but I’d like to see her playing footy in the future.

Milli moved way too well for her. Very hard to land a blow the way she danced so well

Didn't enjoy watching one of our players getting beaten pretty hard. Credit to Tayla for taking the caper on.

Really enjoyed the lightweight title fight beforehand.

Tayla should stick to footy from now on .

She fought an experienced ( long amateur career) woman who completely outclassed her. Tayla was brave , no doubt about that, but didn't throw enough punches and didn't defend well enough.

I'm sure Australian women's boxing will develop but at this stage the local girls just don't have enough experience.

Agree . The girl who lost will be a gun when she is taught how to actually punch.

I’d rather she stuck to footy. Didn’t see the fight but I’ve read some fight reports which say she was outclassed and well beaten.

There is some speculation that Tayla may have a facial fracture as a result of this fight. I'm all for players having interests outside of football, but not one that can potentially cause serious injury a month out from the start of the season.

  • Demonland changed the title to Tayla Harris' boxing career

Conflicting reports! She won but she was out-classed?

Until the AFLW is a full time job I fully support the players in all their endeavours. Go Harris! Keep fighting the good fight

👍

Boxing isn't my thing, so I'll leave it up to others to comment on Tayla's ability or otherwise.

But until the AFLW H&A season takes up more than 20% of the year, I'm cool with pretty much anything players choose to do to earn a living - or just as importantly, maintain fitness. Helping players to juggle competing commitments is a huge part of what makes a successful AFLW team in this current phase. Give and take, of course, and you have to draw the line somewhere. But I'm sure the club were aware of the potential for injury in a boxing match.

A bit like the English Cricket team

Am I missing something here ?

She clearly lost ( though remarkably one judge scored a draw ) and she was totally outclassed.

When the AFL and multiple medical specialists are hell bent on trying to reduce the effects of head knocks, and warning of its long term consequences, it seems rather silly to be pursuing this activity.

Not a sport I would advise any female to take up, except for certain aspects of training for fitness.

It's not a sport I'd advise any person to take up.

Pro boxing is legal brutality. ( I do like watching it though )

I thought professional boxing was all fixed, like professional wrestling. Maybe she'll be scripted to make a glorious comeback in the rematch.

Ahh does anyone actually care?

If ever you meet Tim Tszyu  Rab, I'd advise keeping that opinion to yourself.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
