Nibbler signs 3-year deal

Good on Nibbler and the club. From being told to look around to valuable role player. He’s the definition of resilience and perseverance. Glad he’s hitting the scoreboard again this year. His best seasons were 2018 and 2021 where he hit the scoreboard as well as providing link up run.

Very happy about this, consummate professional, elite runner, staunch team mate. Proof of what a championship team is all about. And just quietly, would be starting 22 in any other club.

Never seen so much love for such an average plodder. Should have been dropped about the middle of last year.

With so much love and a new contract I think that average plodder would be quite happy and definitely not Cranky.

Reckon he's been one of our better players this year. I'd have him in my top 3 or 4.

Becoming really consistent in a very difficult position, but gives his all defensively and is really hitting the scoreboard these days.

That's one thing ANB is not  A PLODDER.

Perhaps  his role is to cute for some to understand.Stood up to scrutiny in 2021. Down a bit last year but back in the groove this year racking up pressure and distances covered in limiting opposition scores.

Not sure there’s another player on our list who has made so much out of his available talents. Extraordinary worker well-rewarded, and having a great season. Love watching him go about it.

Get him to tag Nick Daicos?

It's all about whether we keep our powder dry on Kings Birthday and tag during finals or whether we try it earlier.

I'm sure Collingwood will have plans for it, but you don't want to give them half the season to work out other ways around a Daicos tag.

I genuinely think this is one of the most fascinating and pivotal questions of the 2023 season, because his uncontested work is so integral to how Collingwood move the ball.

That average plodder is Lord ANB to you. They should teach kids about him in school.

Even at his worst he is a structural lynchpin. His gut running to fill holes in our zone and make position is second only to Langdon. When he is in this mode his finish can be a bit lacking though, missing simple goals and his decision making is too slow allowing opposition to flood our forward line before entry. In this mode I have been known to get quite vocal about giving him some time in the 2s.

When he is in form, like he was in ‘21 and seems to be this year, he has all the structural importance but moves the ball accurately and decisively and nails goals. He is definitely one of our barometer players. I love watching him play when he is like this.

He came to the club with little fanfare and has quietly built himself into our team as a key player. Good on him, happy to see his hard work rewarded.

It's interesting that Jason Castagna, a similar player playing a similar role, retired this year at 26 with 134 games and 3 flags, citing the pressure of maintaining high standards. AFL is very tough to play and it can't be easy for less skilled players to be consistent.

Surprised he got 3 years, he should be the type of player the kids are pushing out of the side over the next 12-24 months, especially given the strength of this year's draft hand

Incorrect. He’s an elite endurance athlete. Few in the league can cover him for speed and distance. These types of players don’t grow on trees.

Need more AFL caliber traits than functioning legs to be irreplaceable

You really underestimate him. He’s a role player and an excellent one at that. Every premiership team has them.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
