Gawn - an amazing return

Viney - 4 solid quarters 

Grundy - was almost important 

May - better second half

Lever - not always convincing 

Bowey - has been better

Rivers - a  solid game

McVee - was seemingly overawed 

Hibberd- some vital tackles

Langdon - better second half

Brayshaw - often careless disposals 

Hunter - some important touches

Oliver - eventually got going

Petracca - not as explosive 

van Rooyen - incredible last quarter

Sparrow - impressive tagging game

 Neal-Bullen - played his role

Pickett - another disappointing game

Chandler - took his chances

Jordon - a workmanlike performance 

Petty - needed in defense

    Heck, the match I watched I thought McVee had a better than average game and certainly held his own.

    joeboy must’ve been a jam at the ‘G after the final siren glad you’ve successfully negotiated the traffic /public transport imbroglio to get home.

    Mostly in concordance with your player analysis except you’re too kind to Steven May and too harsh on Angus Brayshaw*. And Judd McVee looks to be fairly cool under pressure.

    I think the anti May analysis of this game is a bit tough. From watching the replay, I noticed that Riewoldt was a long way away from May in some of his goals...I thought May was solid.

    That is the problem Mon Our No 1 was AWAY from Jack. His job too scrap/ scrap and spoil and punch away and put body on body. Ie No pressure from Steve on Jack.

    Thought Steve's last quarter was positive and Jake also improved.

    Seen May play much better footy. Set a very high standard in recent seasons with two All-Australian blazers. Agree his last quarter was more solid but Riewoldt and Co had physically dropped off. 

    At this stage of the season there is plenty of room for improvement, amongst the individuals who make up the team including Steven May.

    Angus Brayshaw is the type of footballer most coaches and players love to have in their sides. Courageous, combative and committed to the team success. Over his career he has provided that in spades. From overcoming earlier serious concussion issues, to running a close third to a surprise Brownlow medal. To the pure grit and determination of his Grand Final performance in Perth in '21. Where he was flying the flag deep into the Doggies' second into third quarter momentum swing.

    His recent performances continue to to show that determination and resolve by accounting for Jake Stringer against Essendon despite the loss. I thought his performance against Richmond was similarly praiseworthy, absorbing considerable physical pressure, but continuing to repulse Tiger forward forays as the game tightened up. Whilst still being able to deliver quality ball by hand or foot to a team mate.

      From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

    • CASEY: Gold Coast

      Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

      The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
