Yes I think that's a good idea and especially that we shouldn't play the national anthem before the corporate Grand Final. 

I don't actually have a problem with acknowledging Anzac Day at the game itself given its importance in our national story.

But I reject the conflation of the game seemingly being promoted as THE recognition of the remembrance. 

Of course most of the Australian population don't even know who is playing so it's either irrelevant or an  extraordinary case of inflated self importance

It would be great if we had some other fit and in form forward talls, but we don’t at present so have to make do.

Happy to pay them more, but not sure they are anywhere near the same level as the players in terms of importance

Stopping the bounce may encourage more to take up umpiring.  Or putting it the other way, having the requirement to bounce may discourage some from even trying.  
Instead concentrate on running, human interaction, understanding of the rules and of course ophthalmology assessments.

Think so too. Just finished the replay, a good win and finally got it together, a few let offs but got it done and that's a plus.

Teams know what do try against us and that is moving it fast before we can set defensively and getting it to ground rather than hurried kicking in the air. Coaching staff will be earning their money in the coming weeks.

Paraphrasing:  He was really pleased that we came from behind and had to fight our way back to win.  He said it was something we weren't often able to do last year.  He also said they have been working on tactics to counter the fast run and carry of other teams.

Clearly the latter are a work in progress as we weren't able to counter Ess last week.  We will get plenty of practice in the coming weeks with games vs Port, Hawks and Freo who have all used it with varying degrees of success.  Hopefully we have nailed those tactics before we play Collingwood.

 

Edit:  He also sounded confident the Kozzie contract would be sorted soon.  No weasel words like with Jackson last year.

I don't think this is our year either, and I could do a lengthy post about our lack of backline run and kicking skills, our midfield looking one paced and being unable to hit the side of a barn and how I'd like our forward line to have both another dangerous small as well as a pair of high quality talls.

But I don't understand criticising the coaches for not sticking with the same ageing talls who haven't done much of anything since 2021 whilst also saying things are similar to last year.

BBB and Tommy combined for 1.7 in the VFL. JVR kicked 3 in the last quarter to win the match. Gawn was instrumental in the 3rd quarter. And whilst Petty hasn't set the world on fire up forward he has got first hands on the footy a fair bit and his ability to change direction and chase is a mile better than Brown and T Mc.

Even though parts of this season were super patchy (stunt casting Lizzo and Jack Black!) I still love that show and think it’s the best Star Wars anything since 1980.

I umpired local footy about 18 years ago. The umpires for the league would catch up every Wednesday night, we'd watch tape of any controversial decisions from afl games. If there was any incidents on the weekend in our games it was shared and discussed. Then would do some laps of the oval and some ball work.

I would assume the AFL umpires would have a performance review during the week and would at least do a bit of running to stay fit for the games. 

Finally got a chance to watch the game tonight. After reading a couple of threads here first, I was preparing myself for May’s “atrocious” game. 
 

He wasn’t at his best, but he was nowhere near as bad as I was led to believe.

He was telling us all year they were fixing the forward line and they rarely needed to come from behind because they squandered leads.

I agree, though after only watching at the G, I thought he was poor. I saw the replay and my opinion about his game changed. Thought he played well until about the middle of the third, and then became average. As a few have said, perhaps he is not quite right to fully run out the game.

He's playing injured

Ball movement was a bit shady first half, got it together and overran them. Roo is potential big game player. Gawn makes such a difference. Grundy has the biggest ears I've ever seen (getting better each week)

I’m excited by JVR but it looked like he was well beaten by Balta for the first three quarters. Was it only after Balta moved forward or was perhaps rested and a much younger player was on JVR that he found his space and groove?

 

The fact that JVR didn’t hang his head  and grabbed the opportunity says a lot - he’ll learn to play on more experienced defence but it’s that attitude that excites me most.

Have a friend who is an ex afl umpire and still does AFLW matches. They most certainly do review every match and every decision. They then receive an overall score which determines whether they umpire AFL matches or are demoted to other leagues to improve (where they don’t get paid any where near as much). Problem is the AFL look at whether the decision was ‘technically’ correct, not correct in relation to the decisions or non decisions already made in the game. On the ‘technically’ correct metric, they do very well. On the correct in relation to the game, I think we all know they are sub par.

I had the feeling all game, that if we could get some momentum we would run over the top of the Tigers. My brother follows the tigers and he was resigned to the fact that this very young side would get steamrolled in the second half. I don't think this happened and thought we were only a few accurate shots on goal from being beaten. 

I really thought that our experienced talls would be a major point of difference. I think Ryan and Young were trying to hold down key positions and play ruck so we had a clear advantage. This just didn't seem to translate into midfield dominance. Others have suggested that Grundy turned the tide, but I think his radar was off in terms of his rucking duties, often delivering it straight to the Tigers advantage. This was a major complaint of the few Collingwood supporters that I talk to about footy. 

Understand this is a pretty negative post after a win, but the Tigers lack depth and along with several injuries. We really should have been more dominant, given our experience and the quality of our playing group.

We are a long way off our best imv. Fortunately we are playing lesser quality opposition over the next few weeks, I just hope we don't take them too lightly as there may be a few surprises in store.

As is the closeness of the competition, and the fear of scrutiny, no team ever takes another team lightly.

I watched the game yesterday and Collingwood struggled with Essendon run and carry game for 3 Quarters 

I was surprised how efficient the bummers were in terms of their disposal and their ability to block Collingwood running through the midfield - their main weapon

Last quarter pies went full pressure and the bummers wilted terribly and the dam wall burst 

Pressure on the ball carrier wins most games - our problem is we seem to struggle to present that every quarter and every game. Our disposal not only in terms of decision making but also effectiveness is also below what it should be atm - hopefully that can change. Lost count in our game against tigers the number of

1. dumb 2 metre handballs that achieved nothing

2. dumb high bombs out of trouble and into more trouble

My sense watching at times was the players just wanted to get rid of the ball and let someone else have the problem of finding a target 

Maybe it’s a lack of confidence because when we are playing well that isn’t what I see
