PODCAST: Selwyn Griffith Interview

Pls ask him , his opinion, why we were not mentally "on" last Saturday night, and how do we maintain elite game pressure throughout the season. Why all the fumbling?

Fabulous interview with great insights into an area where most of us know bugger all!  Thanks to Andy for organising, Bin and of course all Demonlanders who contributed questions.  I loved Selwyn’s frequent references to our holistic ‘team’ approach.  The interview filled me with confidence that we are in excellent hands, and up with the very best in the AFL.  Go Dees!   ❤️💙

An excellent and incredibly informative interview with Selwyn Griffith.

Well done and I look forward to many more interviews with various people at the Melbourne Football Club.

Thank you guys! It is wonderful the work you do with these podcasts!

Fingers crossed that @Demonlandcan possibly please grab the mysterious and eccentric genius Mark "Choco" Williams for an interview some time in the future. Now that would be an AWESOME interview as well! 🤞

Fantastic interview, very insightful, and for me it confirmed loading around the bye is a thing 👍

A couple of extra running sessions around the bye is not "loading". It's maintenance at best, as he clarified.

Top stuff, Andy and binman. That the MFC are making staff/players available for pod interviews says much about Demonland being observed, and in a good way! Selwyn’s detailed responses to your excellent questions were as I had hoped, offering perspective and objectivity to things that often otherwise lead to supporter conniptions, i.e. it’s an incredibly tough game and season, everyone’s on the same page and doing the absolute best they can, but luck plays an enormous part. Well done too to binman on your stealth approach to the loading question…..set up and spike!

Well done on a thoughtful, respectful and open interview.  I love how ‘loading’ got (sort of) confirmed in terms of training blocks!  Very interesting, and my congratulations on getting both access and a reasonable level of engagement (not just cookie cutter answers) that bring us all value.

From the great interview, while Griffiths confirmed that the players' loads do include extra endurance sessions at periods during the season, it seems that most of the additional sessions occur when the breaks between games are longer.

Griffiths could have been cagey on providing too much information about this but I did not get the impression that loading can be used as an excuse for a lull in the middle of the year.

Well done to Andy and Binman. Was a good listen. Interesting that loading isn’t as much of a thing than even I thought. It’s almost like our training sessions are universally intense and demanding…

But again, proof in the pudding eating.

Love the allusion to how great our staff are.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
