This should be awarded retrospectively for the last 7 years AFLW has been played.

Stll give an AFL Minor Premiers award as well.

In 2021 we would have won both awards I think.
And the combined MClelland  Again.  in 2022

Typical. We would have won it the last two years. But should challenge this year.. Lions are our only real threat. Didn’t think the Cats aflw side was any good.

Sadly Daisy will change that

This is bound to throw up anomalies!

eg A mens and womens team could both be on the fringes of the 8 with enough wins to get the points to be the 'champion' club and get the $1m.  While in the same year another club may have one of their teams at the top of the ladder after H&A and their associated team be further down the ladder but not have many wins.  That club misses out on the $1m.

Realistically how often will both teams be at the top end of the ladder?  'Games won' is a poor method in my book.  It will favour clubs where both comps are mid tier.  The teams of the winning mid tier club may not even go deep into the finals.

I love the idea but not the method.   Given there is $1m up for grabs I feel the criteria needs to ensure that the best teams and club does get the prize.

I get the AFL is trying to foster a 'one club' mindset but not sure 'games won' is the best way to do it.

I would prefer that the $1m be split and an amount (eg $400k) goes to the team that finishes on top of the ladder in the AFLM and the AFLW comp, regardless of the club.  Then an amount (eg $200K) to the 'Champion' Club based on the proposed 'games won' method or on an improved method.

$1m is a huge amount for a club.

I fear the AFL (as usual) has not thought through the possible outcomes of their 'games won' method and in some years the $1m will be a reward for mediocrity.

Last word!  Given the newness of many of the AFLW teams only a handful of clubs can win the $1m in the near future:  Dees, Lions, Pies with Freo and Cats outside chances.

This is the last word from me🙃

Games won will be heavily distorted by the draw in both comps.  In the AFLM by who plays the bottom 4-6 teams twice.  The impact of the draw is even more significant in the AFLW where each team plays only 9 of the other 17 teams and the draw is designed to give the new teams more wins.

AFL, change the method!!

Don't like the idea at all.  Why hand out our money?  The award itself should be sufficient.  What's next? money for winning the Brownlow (handy for some to pay their lawyers I guess).

Once again it all comes back to the draw and now it seems that teams with a garbage one will now miss out on even more.

Big, big money.

Well Luc I can't see how mediocrity is an issue. If you win the McClelland Trophy with both AFL and AFLW counted you need at least big no of wins in one and more than half in the other.
it would be good to go back over the last 6 years and check just to see who   Was the winner.
Don't go for the split up of $400,000 each and $200,000 for the winner. Would be better if $400,000 to the overall winner and $300,000 to each of the Men's and Women's  Divisions if this went ahead.

Would you be happier with ladder position? That is, 18 points for first, 17 for second etc. Maximum available points would be 36. It would need a decision on whether the points are awarded for end of Home and Away or after finals.

Here’s an idea AFL HQ, invest that money in grass roots footy. I’ve read recently (given footy seasons are just around the corner) of many local level footy clubs and leagues struggling to get teams on the park due to all matters of financial problems. COVID has brought local clubs to their knees…………… but no, let’s continue to reward the elite 1% of the footballing fraternity who are already well remunerated 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦

I mean, why should Gil and his executive mates care about the health of grass roots football 🤬

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
