In one respect  a 'problem" with the forward line stocks is even with the likes of Milky (retained ) Roo and Petty ( if he is indeed to live forward permanently )  is we're ...imho...still one decent sized KPF short.   Whereby we had the likes of Big Benny and Tommy  alas I would think those halcyon days are passed.  Had we a more mature and experienced Forward I doubt that Roo would have been chucked in the deep end as he was.

Other than Fritta we dont have too many who live and breathe forward craft.  Smith isnt too bad.. but not what I think we're looking at as being the KEY forward. Petty might get there...but he's still learning imo.

It is someone like Hogan (oh the irony ) that we need... Not the Lynchs or the like...just a good solid meat and 3 veg realiable PROPER forward.. Will only likely need for 3-4 years.

We dont need a silver bullet...just add to the silver already on hand

Tom Lynch is turning 31 in October. basically same age as Tmac and BBB - but yes body in a better condition.

Wonder how many years he'd have left.

I don’t know about that. JVR/Petty is not as good as the Lions, GWS or Blues combos, maybe the Pies duo yes but still a big gamble placing that much pressure on JVR in his second year. Can we afford to take a gamble like that with two solid years left of a premiership window? I’m not sold on it.

Get Tom Lynch.

Lynch would be expensive both in terms of salary cap and draft picks, is coming off a foot injury and will be 31 next year.

I think Petty/JVR could give us a better (or similar) return next year to a fit Lynch and we could boost our team in other areas.

I think a fit Tom Lynch would be great but 've seen two separate reports that he's still getting around in a moonboot ...

Miers still superior statistically in flag years, even though it wasn’t his best season.

Look at the past 24 months. Miers has surged, Spargo stagnated/regressed. Not a good sign for a 6th/7th year player.

Absolutely, $5mill for 5 years, pick 5 to the Dogs.

Thats the 5 for 5 for 5 Demon Deal.

Salary wise yes not cheap but he wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg in draft capital. Pick 5 wouldn’t be touched. We might get away with our 2024 first rounder which should be in the 15 - 18 range.

31yo doesn’t phase me. It’s just his body. That’s certainly the question mark.

I don’t know that JVR is ready to take the next step at this stage. He’s got some filling out to do and got monstered a bit too much for my liking against the big boys. He’s only 20yo. As a combo with Petty with a shot at a flag at stake it’s too big a risk imo.

We need a proper gorilla coming out of the square.

Lynch is a year away at most from being as cooked as TMAC or BB.

Drafting is great but our window is now.

Jamara or kitchen sink at Oscar Allen - perfect age bracket.

Jack Buller was a Swans midseason draftee who kicked 22 goals in 8 VFL games. Big unit.

Unfortunately he immediately extended his contract for a year before he made his debut. Swans really leveraged him.

Rumour was he was going to play WAFL finals?

Can we put a fat contract to him and try to force the Swans hand in the Grundy deal?

I know there is significant baggage and NQR about Tarryn Thomas, but North were open a month ago to the possibility of trading him...would pick 13 be enough to get him across? He is the forward/mid that could switch with Tracc. He is a beautiful kick, fast, can apply pressure, good forward craft.

He is also a player who with a full pre-season and the right influences around him could be in the true elite in the competition. Hoyne had him as one of the best 6 rated players over the last month of the season. If there are no key forwards on the market and the key backs are overpriced, would be good to buy low on this bloke before he explodes. Would give us a midfield boost and a different type we have been missing, still get another good player with pick 5 to further boost our stocks. Especially is we can't get our hands on the GCS pick, then we should be trying to maximise our premiership window by bringing in skilled players who are upgrades on their incumbents to our 22.

Sure - but Petty plus another year into JVR, they could really do some damage. I feel that our priorities are elsewhere than a KPF, e.g. longer term backup for May + Gawn, plus some on-ballers with decent/elite disposal.

I wonder who the back up Ruck is going to be, with Flynn possibly heading to the Eagles.

LRFE has suggested Ned Moyle.

I suggested Goldstein for a year, who could mentor our Casey rucks and play a few games, but he seems to be looking elsewhere. Bryan re signed with Bombers.

I can't think of anyone else.

No, I like the look of him. Wouldn't be offering crazy money but far more than the Swans have got him on the books for and whilst I wouldn't straight swap him for Grundy I'd throw in a couple of 3rd rounders. We have to find a way to get someone!

I think they can easily be better than 2 out of 4 as soon as next year and not too far from the Brisbane and Carlton combinations that are amongst the best in the league.

Unless we get one of the 5 or so genuine stars of the comp we need depth and particularly someone who can go in the ruck to take the load off JVR.

Who are the two?!

The only pairing I'd say are potentially Mihocek and McStay. But even then, Mihocek is criminally underrated by oppo supporters.

It's what they have around them that is superior to us as well.

Thats just it $1M..   not massively over all in all...  imo..    for what you should expect.

You would want 50g a season ?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
