So it appears we're going to turn the list over a bit this pre-season. I like it.

If rumours are correct Harmes, Jordon, Tomlinson and Grundy could all be going. Jordon is worth keeping IMO.

Hibbo has retired and we assume Melksham will get one more year.

There are question marks over TMac and BBB although contracted?

Who of the rookies apart from McVee, do we have to promote?

We only know of McAdam coming in.

There could be plenty of movement and maybe worthwhile keeping our two first rounders and two second rounders in play?!

Disco has to be upgraded too, but not sure if it's this year or next.

If we are keeping Melky (which I don't mind) surely it is for two years considering he wont get back to playing towards the end of next year.  Or do they keep him on the books so that he gets the best rehab?

You can add Dunstan to those who'll be leaving. That's a lot of senior players leaving the club, with very few obvious youngsters at Casey filling the void.

I'm usually in the camp that likes list turnover, but I'm concerned with how unbalanced our list may be next year. Aside from Howes, I don't see any Casey mids or key forwards for that matter progressing to AFL level next year. If Schache isn't selected this week, his re-signing is bewildering.

We are probably in our best position ever with draft picks and salary cap to land a "Big Fish", but sadly there is no gun out there that we covet.

I agree that we need to utilise our 1st and 2nd round picks, and hopefully land some AFL ready talent, like we did the year we got Jackson, Kozzie and Rivers.

I’d be disappointed if we have him a 2 year extension. I’d delist him, keep at the club to get his knee right and go from there.

The knee is one thing but it's important to think about the bigger picture than just Melksham's age.

His conditioning is elite. He has the lowest body fat percentage at the club and his ability to take care of his body, diet and recovery is second to only Clayton at the club.

His role relies on smarts more than speed. There were no signs of him slowing down prior to Round 23, in fact it looked the opposite.

I'm not advocating for a two year deal but I do believe if any players conditioning and physical attribute belies their age, it is Melksham.

Very happy to be proven wrong and hope you're spot on in your assessment.

Buku Khamis not yet offered a contract from the Dogs.  Think we should look into him!

Can anyone explain the point of a one year deal for Melksham when he will only just be coming back to potential selection this time next year?

It’s either a two year deal or nothing. And despite a decent purple patch the reality is he wasn’t best 22 for the majority of the year.

It’s a tough call but I can’t see him being offered a contract. There’s no point.

Absolutely deserves a year.  Support an injured player and see how he comes back.  If he comes back and performs then he gets another year

It's a risk assessment for Jake and the club.

One year - get the knee right, assimilate back into the senior team late in the season and see how it looks.

I'll back him in. Faced adversity his whole career given supplement scandal, redefining his position and now the knee.

There were reports Melk had agreed to play/coach in the country prior to get a one year deal in 2023. Not sure the club has Melk in their plans for 2024/25. Definitely not 2025, me thinks.

The club will look after him regardless with his recover and medical needs. The ALFPA looks after retires players too.

He's yet to play an AFL standard game and at 23 you'd have to wonder whether he ever will. He'd be competing with Fritta and now McAdam.

Half correct.

Corowa Rutherglen had a coaching contract there for him at the end of 2022 if he hadn't been offered another deal by the Dees.

Connection there is his Dad Dave was the under 18's coach at Corowa and youngee brother Darcy was playing senior footy.

It was a bit of a SOS call to Jake by the footy club because unfortunately Corowa went into recess at the start of the 2023 season.

Why?

23yo key forward who is averaging more than 2 goals a game.  Worth a shot with our forward depth

Haha id take Buku's shoe lace over McAdam.  I really hope that trade doesn't happen!.

He is 23 and only picked up footy very late, just a good pick up if low cost.

I can't emphasise how [censored] I think McAdam is, and he is 7cm shorter.  Not to mention the poor way he is leaving the crows.  Screams unprofessional

Fair enough. But if the Dogs are holding back on offering him a contract then rest assured he ain't that good. This is a club that took our C graders Hannan and Baker off our hands!

They have a plethora of key forwards who they need to find money to keep. He isn’t their priority.

i thought the same, but then i remember every time i've watched him play and u go he has all the attributes to dominate and has been tried at either end of the field but he just doesn't impact games

agree he's too small to be a key and we're stacked in that 3rd forward role but he probably finds himself listed somewhere for 24 even if it is back at the doggies

I read somewhere (and I CBF looking for it) that Melk's ACL tear was one of the "better" ones and all going well he may be available mid season. That kinda reinforces the decision to contract him for another year

McAdam isn't as good and is already 29 Dont really know why we are interested

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
