Always love a good trade rumour thread. Post and discuss any rumours or speculation about potential player movements here.

Like last year with Luke Jackson, let's keep this thread clear of any Kozzie speculation where there is already a dedicated thread.

I'll kick things off with some speculation that Carlton is under salary cap pressure which is putting Tom De Konings future at risk with St Kilda and Essendon reportedly interested.

"After locking in Harry McKay, Charlie Curnow, Patrick Cripps and Sam Walsh, the only real question is how to stave off the interest in ruck-forward Tom De Koning.

The Bombers and Saints have reportedly been circling hard, and News Corpโ€™s Jay Clark writes they are the strongest contenders to poach De Koning and add to their key position stocks."

Don to wait, Roo in demand, Dog closes on new deal - https://www.afl.com.au/news/882460

Nothing too exciting reported here.

- Port one of a few clubs interested in Ben McKay

- Parish holding off re-signing for now and qualifies as a RFA

- host of players edging towards re-signing with their clubs including E Richards, J McGovern, J Motlop

No mention of any Demons.

So I read on Twitter that apparently Geelong may be targeting Ben King in the next off season. Geelong seems to have very deep pockets and no salary cap ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ

Got to say I am a bit annoyed that the MFC is not linked (at least in the media) to high profile KPF like B King.

Not saying the rumours are 100% true or a certainty, but it would be nice to know what is the plan to improve our FWD line.

In my opinion is the one area where the club will need major improvements in the next couple of years. BBB and TMac are entering the twilight of their careers.

ย

FFS.

It's March and already someone's "annoyed" that we're not targeting a player for a trade.

You want to know what our plan is to improve our forward line? How about we see how the 2023 premiership season goes for a bit longer than two games first?!

FFS.

A speculative thread based on a โ€œtweetโ€. This is good stuff.

Hopefully the club address the issue before this weeks game.

Even if we have a successful 2023, the reality is that both BBB and TMac have expiration dates.ย

You'd expect the club to plan long term, as we have done with the midfield.

It was from SEN, take it with a grain of salt.

Even if King was gettable, where would that leave Jefferson/JVR long term given they're bubbling away in the magoosย

ย

We've got somewhat of a plan,ย  developing JVR and Jefferson.

Whilst, as yet, totally unproven, JVR and Jefferson are being developed as eventual KPFs.ย
Yes, a developed KPF would be just great, few are available for trade.ย

Let's say in two years both TMac and BBB are retired. You'd have enough space for them two plus hopefully our new KPF.

I don't think you can play three key forwards and Fritsch

Then why didnโ€™t you?

We have drafted JVR and Jefferson for his very (long term) reason and currently have two Premiership tall forwards in Tmac and Brown.

Whats the problem?

But what if in two years JVR and Jefferson were ready to rip the comp apart?

After doing an acl, you often donโ€™t see a player return to their best footy for at least a year after returning. Might be early, but Ben may just be experiencing that at the moment (also doesnโ€™t help playing for the Suns).ย
ย

If available, Iโ€™m not banging down his agents door to get him to sign with the Dees atm.

I don't see how we would have the cap space. Have 2 of the best midfielders on LT contracts, the best ruckman, 2 KP defenders on big contracts and filled in around them is several borderline AA players

Clearly our plan is JVR and Matt Jefferson. From this season onwards getting games into. ย We haven't got the cash left if we want Kossie paid well to retain him what he is worth.ย

Iโ€™m sure Geelong are into him. Plenty of clubs would be but I reckon heโ€™ll try to get to st Kilda to play with his brother.ย

ย

I also twitch a bit when I see good players linked with clubs other than mine but remember this;

Weโ€™ve recently won a premiership and weโ€™ve ย only just fallen out of the top 4 for the first time in something like 2 years. It appears to me that Tim Lamb and co. know what they are doing.

We are also the club that doesnโ€™t leak so how do you know weโ€™re not in the conversation with King?

The $1 blocks of land have to make some difference.ย

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
