I'd doubt the 'clone' intent  of any poster in this matter, to date. Similarities only are surmised. Breadth of footy experience and observation enable one to discern certain characteristics seen within and across the generations, including player generations, and that is all that is recalled - no absolute 'dead cert' intonations. Golly, it is as if having an opinion, large, small and in this case, minute, is once again DL criticised. It must be time, therefore, to stop finding linkages - no matter how remote - to player attributes seen so far before and since recruitment, and the ultimate questions:  wonder why this guy or that guy was selected? Are these good attributes? What experiences have we had in the footballing past to see certain recurrent attributes, by whom?

come come, ds56, you are too easily triggered.

the post you responded to and was seemingly aggrieved by, was very much a cheeky tongue-in-cheek comment and amusing.

golly, indeed 😆

Deemania I was loving the posts and comparisons. I’m excited by all our draftees, the position of our list and our potential to win more flags in the near future. I was enjoying how positive things get about every player at this time of year, it’s only a matter of months and one loss before all the negativity returns. I was enjoying it not lambasting it!

A few decent opp players are out until the new year:  Sam Walsh, Max King, De Goey, Stringer who seems to never e fit!

It can't help their season build up.

At this stage we have to enjoy that we have not lost a game we have players like Grundy, Hunter and Schache who have made our list better and hope some of our younger players like Bowey, Rivers, Van Rooyen, Sparrow, Jordan, Howes, Chandler, Moniz-Wakefield, Deakyn Smith, Woewodin, Turner  and Laurie take the next step or leap to the top step this year.

Matthew will fillout in time but don't expect a 2023 debut unless we have a disastrous run of injuries, development of young bodies with the help of the fitness staff and diet his 84Kg body will become a 94-98Kg body in a year, so maybe he will be ready in 2024.

I believe his selection was more long term since JVR is already on his journey to AFL football and there is no rush.

There is no harm on Jeffer developing ahead of Schedule.

BTW this Casey Team might just be worth getting a bet on B to B if possible.

I might need a helmet for the upcoming facepalms, but reckon free agent Darcy Parish could thrive in our midfield

It would be strange if MOST of the above players did not develop further. Some are already fair/ good AFL players but need to improve and others are in 2nd or third seasons where the pre season is exciting seeing bulked up and fitter bodies more ready to use their undoubted skills. Bring it on.

Out if the above Bowey Rivers Sparrow Chandler JJ JVR Turner and Taj appeal as improvers to AFL debut or standards.

Other is a  real smoky is AMW who has added bulk etc to his rare skill and no limit on his career should be placed on his shoulders.

That's  whatt we pay Choco etc. the big bucks for!!

Not sure what he has to do with the injured players post but anyway I'll play along.

He ain't a team player, just wants to rack up possessions and won't run both ways.  He is where our midfield players were in 2019.

No thanks.

The more we have the ball the less the opposition does!

If we can find a way to transplant the weight off Sestan and onto Jefferson in the preseason, we’ll have Charlie Curnow and Dusty in the forward line for Round 1!

Happy to oblige, and he would have to unlearn the Essendon way, which would take some time.

I'm off on my holidays.

Won't be able to report on training till after the new year.

Happy holidays to everyone.

Has this leave been approved by Demonland? Seems odd that you're allowed time off during what is traditionally your peak season.

Have a great holiday Kev, Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family.!!!!

@kev martin- I drove past training on the way to work this morning and noticed there looked to be some kind of screen/score board setup on the boundary, is that new as of today or something you've noticed when you've been at sessions? Not a big story, but never seen that before. Cheers!

Do you mean something on the Punt road wing because I can’t recall seeing anything there when I went last Friday?

Or do you mean the new and much larger open air pavilion on the city side, in which they’ve set up a temporary gym and more equipment than I’ve seen in previous years?

On the pavilion side. I only got a quick glance as I drove down Punt Rd, but all the players were out, all the cones etc were setup and there looked to be an electronic scoreboard/screen setup - probably about 3m x 2m as a really rough guess. I'm assuming it's something they just wheel out there but I've never seen it before.

Do you think they will use it as immediate feedback/review kind of device?

No idea tbh! I literally saw it for about 3 seconds haha! Looked more like just an LED scoreboard at that quick glance.

Injured or waiting for parole? I can't keep up 😜

There is an electronic scoreboard on the city side of the ground.I am not sure what it’s purpose is .None of the players or coaching staff pointed it out.I liked the way Oliver Sestan was training.Nothing in particular but he looked like he knew what he was doing!

Spare a thought for this kid for a minute. One week up at schoolies the very next without any prior warning running around against the most elite athletes in the country and having no fitness base to be able to keep up. I know the feeling of trying to keep up with fit athletes when you're not. It's excruciating. It's going to be a tough summer for him catching up. They'll really have to nurse him psychologically as well as physically. It would break many young men. Wouldn't surprise me to hear that he's got a different fitness training to the main group until at least after the Christmas break.

If I remember correctly, there was a guy called Rigoni who was sitting in a pub having a beer with his mates when he was told he’d bee selected by the Dees, can’t recall how many games he went on to play.

Correct Dante, I believe he'd just won the flag with Myrtleford and got the call to come down and train with Melb during their Mad Monday. His response was something like "Sure, why not!"

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
