won't happen, but moving freo to tassie would solve a few problems

What did Tasmania ever do to you?

Gives Hawks a chance of knocking off the Saints this week. Could make the last 3 weeks a real hoot.

Like us in 2019, Freo are in a rebuilding phase - players in for surgery early , experimenting with players in new roles, trying new strategies, giving some young players a run, working out who to cut etc etc.

Clever, as its not really tanking as such, but has the same benefit of ensuring a high draft pick to bring in a gun or package up draft picks to say to do what we did and trade in a player of Ed Langdon's quality to fill a clear need and a grab a second round gem like Bowey.

Well played Freo.

Oh, hold on. I think I've got that wrong.

The dees get all the same benefits of our 2019 season, but none of the pain of finishing 17th - and in addition to freo's first and second round draft pick, we get our own first and second round draft pick!

Sorry, not sorry Freo.

If it is any consolation Freo, i will be forever grateful and you will always have special place in my heart for the joy you have brought dees fans.

Also, as further consolation my purple friends, pick four has terrible record of producing decent players.

Oh, hold on. I think I've got that wrong.

Nick Daicos went at four in the 2021 draft as did George Wardlaw in 2022. But don't fret my little anchors, both have probably hit their ceiling.

And yes, we might trade up to get the most promising forward in the draft for many a year, but again don't let the angst overwhelm you - number one draft picks have mixed record of going on to be superstars.

And whilst a forward line featuring JVR, Jefferson and Reid is simply a mind blowing thought, it is a few years away from being a reality, which gives you, my darling dockers, several seasons of fully bottoming out to grab some high draft picks you can actually keep (unless of course Bell decides to trade them for English because you need an elite ruck with Darcy heading East because Bell brought in a young, not yet proven ruck to take his minutes and salary).

Sooo in other words, you're just happy we're getting pick 4..??

You're probably right - two massive bogans.

Wouldn’t bogans eat steak with seafood sauce “Reef and Beef” I think they called it. Fkcu me!

Bogans would eat steak with tomato sauce

Hawks need to make up 2 games and 10% with 5 matches remaining to overtake freo.

Unfortunately freo have West Coast

We need hawks to do saints in then hope for an upset against Collingwood or bulldogs (hopefully not us).

Hawks play freo in the final round which could decide pick 3 or 4.

Much more likely if hawks had held on against Richmond last week.

May the Death Ride continue today

🤞🤞

Cats vs Freo at KP

That'll sort out the % differential between them and Hawks!

Keeping a close eye on the Suns game today. Hope they can spring a surprise or at least lose by a smaller margin than Freo do. 🤞

Very conflicted today. I love the death ride but hate Geelong.

Ideally Geelong loses today but Freo still finish in bottom 4 at seasons end.

GC and Freo win, we can get to the Lions and Geelong drop out of the top 8.

In Tasmania they stuff a steak full of Oysters. Odd concept at the best of times, but the name is what really completes it

Pick 4 is, objectively, the best draft pick this century.

In fact, the unsuccessful pick 4s are almost entirely limited to Barry Prendergast selections!

Actually, on further investigation pick 5 may actually have pick 4 just slightly beaten thanks to the incredibly early run of McVeigh, Franklin and Pendlebury, and overall consistency with almost no 'misses', and those misses are GWS anyway.

So I'll be able to remain calm if Freo put in a little bit of a late season spark and somehow climb to 5th-last!

We should try to trade up to get both 4 and 5 because I don't think there's ever been a draft without at least one of them going on to be absolute pinnacle-level champions.

Good on you, Lloydo.

At least, Freo have played in a GF in the last decade. Your mob haven't even managed a finals win in almost two decades. Have some self awareness...

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
