Pick 5 probably. Walter (GC) will likely go top 2. Rogers and Read (both from GC academy) will be first rounders but most likely later half of top 10 onwards.

No f/s prospect so far is being talked about as top 10 potential.

Of course this can all change.

Thanks @Nascent It's interesting all the GC prospects this year which was highlighted by their form for the winning Allies U18 team (a couple of good Tasmanians too).

They currently have picks 7, 26, 27, 43, 54, 61, 63, 67, 79 totalling 3,816 points. They'll definitely want to trade out Pick 7 (or whatever it is  depending on results for the rest of the season). There must be some prospect of Melbourne doing something with our 2nd to 4th picks (currently 15, 22, 33, but hopefully 18, 22, 36 😀) to trade up for that pick and then either use it or combine it with the Freo pick (4 or 5?) to trade even higher.

Are you talking about Melbounre and grundy??

This is not remotely the same situation. Melbourne got Grundy for Pick 27, Fremantle gave away Pick 13 (ended up as Pick 15) in 2022 & 1st & 2nd round picks in 2023 (currently 4 & 23) for Jackson. Collingwood are paying a big part of Grundy's salary as well (maybe $300K). Clearly Melbourne wanted to keep Jacko and only went for Grundy after it was clear Jacko was moving on for a lot more money than Melbourne would have been prepared to pay him (and that was after a poor 2022 season). Don't give up in the Grundy experiment yet, and even if it doesn't work it was a good trade at the time in my view.

He's been one of their best players this year so a big loss for them this weekend.

He would look good in the red and blue. I wonder if Freo would take pick 4 and 22 in a trade for him 😁

We don't need another midfielder (Serong), We need a key forward.

The Run Home for pick #4

  • Richmond don't have their 1st pick so won't be looking to 'lose' games.  They play the bottom 3 sides so are more likely to go up not down the ladder.
  • GC have many winnable games, depending on which GCS turns up
  • Dockers don't have their 1st pick and will be desperate to win games but doubt they will win many as they play the top 3 teams and last year's premiers.
  • Swans have a softish draw so will probably go up unless they put the 'cue in the rack'...

It looks like Freo will deliver pick 4 or 5 - more likely pick 4. if GCS win a few to impress a new coach.  Their second pick # 23/24 which we hold, will slide due to the number of Academy players in the top 10/first round.

If Sydney beat Fremantle next week I'd say F are an extremely big chance to finish 15th. With their poor percentage they'll finish the bottom of every team with the same win-loss record. It will be improved by playing West Coast but not by enough.

Having seen Buddy play last friday, I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls the pin before the last round.  Sad to see him lose his agility. Maybe they'll give him some time off and wheel him out for the last round

Absolutely laughable he has never won a brownlow (or multiple) when players like Priddis can win one.  Buddy has been the player of this generation. Certainly part of GOAT conversations but not in top 3 imo

Buddy's not alone. Keith Greig won 3 Brownlows and Robbie Flower never won any.

Freo have put the cue in the rack. I think they'll struggle to win a game for the rest of the season from here. As the Beatles once said, "Hello Pick 4, my old friend" and

They're not going to lose to West Coast and will start favourites against the Swans at home next week. Surely a big chance against Hawthorn in the last round as well. Prior to their recent loss of form I would have said they were a big chance at home against anyone but hard to see them beating Port & Brisbane and no chance against Geelong in Geelong.

If we were to nab pick 7 from Gold Coast, we'd go to the draft with pick 4 and 7.

Walter likely to be the only one inside pick 5, so four should only slide back the one spot. Ethan Read is probably rated at around 5, but don’t think he’ll attract a bid inside 5 (ruckman rarely get selected in that range these days).

Isnt Jed Walter listed at around pick 30?

my post was tongue in cheek

we do need a KPF but there aren't any available unless we try to pry Ben King from the suns somehow.

About time for Heeney and Mills to really turn it on and for Warner’s return along with Lloyd.

Go the Hawks!  Make pick 3 happen for us!

... ugh I just vomited in my mouth a little bit. 🤑

Grundy for 27 even just for insurance if gawn is injured is worth it.

Id be chucking picks at wce for oscar allen tbh

Looks like we are going to receive a fair price for LJ after all, 5 & 23 plus Matthew Jefferson is much better than any of us had hoped for, even 7 & 25 is still reasonable. Gives JT & TL plenty to work with and we all know what we lack.!!!

They play Tigers, Saints and Dockers in the last game in Melbourne.

If they won one of Tigers and Saints, would you rest players when we played them, if we were safe in 4th spot, in the 2nd last round. Then if they beat Dockers , we would have pick 3.

Eagles would swap pick 1 for 3 and more, as it would give them the boy they want anyway, if it’s not Reid.

Is that Tanking? Only joking😉. Or am I.

I could see the media jumping all over this if it becomes a possibility.

PS: Just watched Hawks for 10 minutes, turning it over every possession. If they weren’t playing Roos they would be losing. They are very ordinary. Forget the above.

Hawks doing their bit for the death ride. I would love it if they managed to overtake Freo and delivered us pick 3.

That's a fair ask being two games down and a 12% difference.

Freo also to play West Coast.

Would have to win 4 out of the last 6 and freo just 1 out of 6.

I think a belated top 4 AFL Draft pick for Luke Jackson is "fair and just" after losing Luke Jackson to Fremantle last year.

Anyway, we'll see what happens and continue to enjoy the death riding.

I think the Hawks would also like to have pick 3 which I think will mean they get it.
I’ll be delighted if we end up with pick 4. After the results this weekend and looking at the run home for all the teams in and around Freo I think the Suns are only team that might drop below Freo of the teams that are currently above them.

It’s a long shot I know but I’m daring to dream.

Would love nothing more than freo falling to 16th. Somewhat poetic justice given Jackson himself was pick 3.

If Hawks can get over the Tigers next week I'll dare to dream.

I love symmetry

If Freo end up 15th.
We assume Reid goes 1 to Eagles and Jed Walter chosen next as Suns priority.  Then picks for Kangas, Hawks and Dees. Either Sanders, Mckercher or Zane Duursma would be then still be available at our pick. Merry Xmas JT.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #5 Christian Petracca

The superstar Demon midfielder made a successful return to the fold after his devastating injury last year and the subsequent fallout from the treatment he received, during which time he sought to depart the club. Petracca's professionalism and strong play, both in the midfield and up forward, were outstanding and resulted in him being runner-up in the club's best and fairest count. However, early this week, the club's new CEO, Paul Guerra, confirmed that the under-contract Petracca has again requested a trade, adding that he would only be allowed to leave for a “quality offer that turns our head". No doubt some Demon heads are already spinning.
