Siren clearly went after the ball went out. I would be furious if that was us.

I guess the question is that the siren went before the umpire called it deliberate. so does the decision have to be made pre siren or the infringement.

I guess jimmy stynes, were he here, would have an opinion. ran over the mark AFTER the siren.

Feel bad for Jacko, don't think he realises what he's gotten himself into over there

I feel almost exactly the same without the feeling bad part.

Good seeing Jackson doing as well with Fremantle in the first two games as he did with us for most of 2022.

If he didn’t, that’s on him. he had everything going for him at the Dees.

To see the dockets loose like that after 34 free kicks was magnificent

Hopefully they kept their docket 😜

It was “paid” but deemed after siren which it wasn’t.

Ah the injustice of it all.  Fremantle lose by a point courtesy of a dodgy umpiring non decision. Truly magnificent.

Did it happen before or after? I wish I cared, I really do. But I don't at all. Good on the Roos!

Good job we traded Jackson. He's been terrible first 2 games for Freo. Grundy a much better option to cover for Max while he's injured.

Time clock went to zero before ball went out. Fair result as siren was sounded well after.

Hmm, interesting point.  Lots of controversy which will hopefully distract Freo and lead to more losses 😂

It's a shame there wasn't recent history of MFC talls heading to freo for the go-home factor only to struggle with sky-high expectations and cop grief from fans and the press over there.

At this early stage, we have made off like Bandits!!

The umpire mics is interesting.  Siren and ball going out is simultaneous, and the umpires very, very quickly call its game over.  They have no doubt.

Is Jackson a "unicorn" because like the single horn all he can do is manage a single mark a game or is it because like the animal his goal kicking skills are mythical?

I hope for his sake he improves before they really start piling on the pressure over here.

Ahhhh, not watching with sound, playing vinyl instead. Much better.
Thanks for the clarification.

Delighted Freo got beat but having poor umpire decisions decide games is [censored] poor.
I’ve come to the opinion that the AFL are happy with  a poor standard of umpiring and a joke of MRO as it creates headlines and interest during the week.

Wouldn’t  be too hard to improve the standard of umpiring by making them full time and well paid or make the rules easier to adjudicate.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
