It would be great if we could watch the girls play at home in Melbourne without a gale blowing.

great effort. Would have been a 10 goal win in normal conditions

Essedon has a fair bit of mongrel about them.

I can see them being the first AFLW team to get the melee fines, when other teams start the even ups after reviewing them and saying let's take the fight up to them.

Good last quarter against the wind.

Very solid win. Bombers to their credit stuck at it and didn't make it easy for us

Can't see us making up the percentage but you never know. Would be great to get a calm day next Saturday and go hard at the Eagles, who are very ordinary. Pies might keep it close against the Lions but won't beat them.

Pies will have to take home the bacon or kick a few sausage rolls next week if we're to snag top spot.

Has Harvey provided any insight at all today?

I wonder if this his dress rehearsal for special comments on Fox Footy for the men’s season next year??

I feel somewhat uncomfortable saying this but I hope the Pies win next Friday or at least hold Brisbane to a close margin.

As it stands, we need to catch up 50 points on percentage

We’ll smash WC once the wind isn’t too bad

The Pies are solid. It’ll be close

Nice win, running into form at the pointy end.  Very even performance, but Paxy and Heath outstanding.

Strong lineup and great to see us building towards a fully fit list (McNamara and Colvin excepted) coming into finals

i expect a professional performance today. That should be enough to translate into a 40 point win for us which will keep within range of Brisbanes percentage

1 point off!

Mackin is exciting and I’d love to see her kick a goal. Has she kicked one this year?

Not yet! Never forget that she kicked a goal with her first kick in a game of footy during the praccy match against Carlton. I've got high hopes for her to snag one before season's end - and she seems keen to get one.

Just got the job done in this one. Frustrating that our one chance against an expansion side came in such conditions though. But flipping that on its head, our percentage is impressive considering that - plus the fact that Essendon is easily the best of the new teams.

Way too many kids eating ice creams in the wind turbine of Casey Fields that itself turned into a bit of an ice block after half time. Good choice on the long sleeve jumpers by L.Pearce, Bannan and Sherriff. The preemptive tape on Paxy and Mithen was also a good look.

Our intensity at the contest at the start was top notch to start and almost difficult to maintain though they stuck at it. There was some champagne ball movement, as well as some overly ambitious stuff that won't fly against better opposition. Seemed like a few undisciplined acts (or words?) occurred, but I was too far away to see them. My money's on Birch though for at least one of them. Related to that, off-season, after a respectful post-Daisy time, it would be interesting to discuss the options for our next captain.

Hanks was everywhere, Paxman breaking lines with abandon, Gillard had some good stops, Heath is a big improver this season (again) and Bannan had the crowd around me super pumped especially early. Great spoil late by Mackin who finds more involvement every week. A few had quiet days (Fitzsimon, Zanker, Goldrick to some extent) but hopefully that keeps us hungry.

Looking forward to Lampard's 50th game next week. Well deserved, and hopefully in front of a more Demons-dominated crowd than this week. Get there, Dees fans!

If we win 40 - 10 then we end up at 248%

If Brisbane win 50-35 they end up 247%

Collingwood kicking a decent score (win or lose) is the key to bridging the gap

That's three weeks in a row now we've kept the opposition to the exact same scoreline,  1.3.9

Which is incredible really,  4 scoring shots for the entire game for the last 3 weeks.  The blip is the Fremantle game,  a comparative shoot out where we conceded 5.6.36 4 weeks ago,  but the game before that it was 1.2.8 against Carlton.

Our defence is water tight and  the goals are being shared around so we don't have to rely on Harris alone:

Hore 14, Zanker 11, Harris 10 and Bannan 7 and Pearce 5 is a good spread.

The speed of ball movement by the mids has been outstanding.

Overall this is the best balanced side we've put out on the park, I assume Wilson goes out for Gay once she's fit,  hopefully for the finals.

To be fair QD, I am totally deranged. But in a good way.

Nice win. We laid some really hard tackles and hurt them today.

I think the last quarter arm wrestle was probably good practice for us before the finals.

I thought Paxy might have been on the slide after last season but Gee she's playing well this year. One of her best games I think.

How do you win a footy match by outscoring the bombers by a multiple of five and yet lose the free kick count 11 to 16?

Baaaaaall!

Just finished watching. Outstanding performance in those blustery conditions - no@WalkingCivilWar, no banner!
Agree with others on the Essendon gronk near the broadcast mic and Underwood needs to stick with Offsiders where there’s an auto cue.
CARNYOUMIGHTYDEEGRRRRLS!

Fantastic win, fantastic day!

A great even team performance with a lot of room for upside. Paxy BOG, my favourite Heater putting a blanket on Prespakis in the second half while providing dash herself, Bannan electric, Kate classy, Harris killing it in the air and doing the team things, Gillard starring for a first year player, the engine room of Loz, Hanks, West, Purcell and Mithen excellent although perhaps a bit scratchy and overusing it a bit in the first half.

A great, if very windy day at Casey fields, the only thing getting smashed as hard as the bombers was the tornado spuds wagon which sold out half way through the third.

Next week we will at least know the target before we play, that’s an advantage. Hoping the pies kick 5+ goals and stay close at least. Then we’re a shot.
Whatever happens we’ve locked away a home QF, a home GF would be nice though…

To put up with the Comrades on 'Land takes a special type of derangement @WalkingCivilWar. So we're all deranged in a good way - except maybe @Bitter but optimistic of course. 🤣

The crows sit 3rd and highly unlikely to drop lower. They’re not as formidable as last year but still a tough opponent to play in the QF. I’d rather avoid them

i think we need to go hell for leather against the eagles and try to make up the percentage. We’re well capable. And then hope the pies do us a favour. They have something to play in terms of finals position so you never know

Odd that you say that Quean D as I have recently been reflecting on my state of mental health.
I have concluded that yes, while I certainly am deranged , I see no point in attempting any change to the status quo

Congrats to Gillard, well deserved

Another milestone:

That brings Kate into the top 5 alongside and ahead of some players who get lots more kudos.

Check out 17th - Duffy! Very respectable average.

And 18th, our old friend Scott - she's revived form to kick 7 for Geelong this season, good for her.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
