Now that it’s been said to be made up, it still makes sense for both parties.

Bruce is better at AFL level than Weid, Mitch Brown & Joel Smith (Forward). He’d arguably be the same, if not better, output than BB with our current game plan.

All that’s left is Fritta and Kossie and he’s not taking their roles.

He’ll also be dropping down the pecking order at the dogs with Naughton, Ugle-Hagan & Lobb fighting for the big-man roles. I’m not including Darcy, who could also be down there.

He can be 1st or 2nd forward with us or 3rd or 4th forward with the dogs - no brainer for Bruce

Of course Josh Bruce could be on a  'pathfinder' mission for Naughton.

Bruce is a gateway player

You didn't see Weid in the Casey jumper near the end of the year Smith or Harmes are not tall enough to compete in AFL even Smith's jumping would not be impactful.
That's why we will keep a Weid for rucking as the SC and Goody don't share your views about our second stringers.

You're assuming a few things. 1. that l didn't see Weid in the VFL where he was a touch more competative but still not AFL standard and 2. That the ruck needs to win tap outs when in fact you don't if you set up right and have an extra onballer at ground level like Harmes. Weid is old news

Anyone mention that Bruce does actually kick straight..

Yep, we've all done something that dumb. The exception that proves the rule 😉

Not even for 5 minutes. The only exciting bit about it was discovering that it wasn’t true.

Apparently he was excited to get to the Dees until he real DL. Lol.!!!

But you once thought of him as a white knight on a steed.

I mentioned that you may have missed it because of your poor judgement. Weid has improved his competitiveness in the ruck and most Casey and /L ers agreed his work in the last half of the season mostly on his own was both his best and most impactful with the packs and round the ground.

No One  in their right mind would go in with Harmes and Joel Smith as AFL rucks less the ground was an absolute bog. Yes setting up right is vital but goes both ways either your taps or opponents do why not get your own as well.

Your assessment of Weids contribution in the ruck to Casey Demons Flag is both insulting and inaccurate in view of the whole hearted effort and absolute attitude plus improvement that he produced in  the last  half a season.

Absolutely not wasted. Diverted my attention from the Jacko thread for 10 minutes. A blessing in fact.

I’m a conspiracy theorist and I believe there is a better-than-bad chance Peter Bell jumped onto BF and made the Josh Bruce rumour up.  He’s managed to find a way into the head of every Melbourne and Doggies supporter this trade period so he thought he’d just find another way to play with our minds.

Pretty much the only thing Bellend has done that's worked :-)

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
