Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He is welcome to follow fellow North forward Ben Brown's lead and come win a flag with Melbourne.

I feel for the Roos. It’s the closest I’ve seen any club come to the dees level of despair. Perhaps they’ve passed it now…. And that, as we know, is a dark place as a passionate supporter. Do we, as a club, make a move on him or any others? Head says yes heart says no. But you can bet other clubs would be smelling blood in the water and moving in if we aren’t. Terrible for footy really.

You can’t play nice in AFL. Nobody felt sorry for us when we were down. Clubs came poaching Frawley and Rivers and it sucked. But those players wanted success and they got it. You cannot hold back from improving your list because you feel sorry for another club.
At the end of the day if Larky wanted out, I would absolutely want us to chase him hard. He’s exactly what we need. Would also chase Ben McKay.

I wonder how North will respond against Sydney this week.

It's possible that these events will inspire the team to play very well and pull off a good win, but also possible that they will feel totally flat and demoralised and play terribly.

You have to feel for North in all of this.

Agree fully, since Brad Scott left the players have had virtually no stability with multiple senior coaches as well as overhauls of the footy department and executive.

I feel for Clarkson in this as while the truth telling is important as a society we are too quick to condemn people including the people who chose to tell their story along with the coaches involved.  I hope we see Clarkson back at North and that he can continue to contribute to the game.

HFC and media organisations will just say it was their duty to report. So how can you sue people who have not much to risk? It will have to come, and I believe it will come, from the AFL.

The report should have been confidential along with the investigation that is currently underway.  A part of me wonders whether Kennett initiated the report as a way of diminishing Clarkson's legacy to enhance his own, as there is no way as President you initiate such a review without having an idea of the sort of issues it will uncover.

Agree with you about Nick Larkey, but Ben McKay? Seriously. I might chase Harry McKay if was available. Choco might be able to teach him how to kick for goal.

Individuals are quite often the low hanging fruit in this large AFL jungle

Essendon drug scandal per se one example, where the AFL found the club had no case to answer and were cleared in the face of ASADA investigation.

Not to mention Dean Bailey and Chris Connolly taking the blame for the so-called Melbourne tanking scandal:

Well from what I recall, Connolly specifically said it - that we aren't to win, so he should have taken blame. Bailey was coaching the team with his hands tied behind his back - the absolute scapegoat. I have no sympathy for Connolly whatsoever by the way, he was the architect (with his mate Schwab) in undermining Bailey and essentially leading to our 2011 demise.

I'm predicting Ratten will be interim coach for 6 games, based solely on that being how long he covered in his acting seasons at each of Carlton and St Kilda.

Ratten still has quite some work to do to also be the first person sacked at three different clubs while having a 50/50 or better win-loss ratio!

Kane Cornes meanwhile writes his article about nth players thinking about leaving.

When we were down in the doldrums people were saying do we really need to be in the competition, we aren't relevant,  clubs took our players and we got bagged from pillar to post. Lets not forget that journo Greg Denham.

Whilst this situation is not good on any level, it does not, in any way exonerate Clarkson from what could be racist behaviour. The process is flawed, but if true, the behaviour warrants accountability. If wrong, the AFL needs to be hung out to dry.

Put yourself in the position of North Melbourne forward Nick Larkey.

He turns 25 next month. He has been in the AFL for six years. He’s played 80 games; of those 80 he’s won just 19. When he plays on Saturday, he will do so under the guidance of his fourth coach in 16 games. The prime years of his career are being wasted.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-decision-north-players-must-make-after-clarkson-bombshell-20230518-p5d9f8.html

No one could blame any North Melbourne player who wanted to leave.

By Kane Cornes - didn't take long

Is North now in free fall?

It's pretty quick to be going with this but he's right.

It's why I, and many others, were so against the simplistic "we sucked at drafting" argument that pervaded on here in 2007-14.

How were Cale Morton, Jack Watts, Jack Trengove, Jack Grimes, even Jimmy Toumpas, supposed to reach their best in the mess that was 2007-14 Melbourne?

It's precisely why someone like Sheezel or Larkey or LDU would look around and think "what would my career/life be like if I was playing for [insert probably any other club except Hawthorn or West Coast]".

Maybe he just looked at the injury list this week and f&*k this, that's a lot of outs with injuries, what happened in their last game?

Aidan Corr (Suspension), Cameron Zurhaar (Injured), Curtis Taylor (Omitted), Darcy Tucker (Injured), Flynn Perez (Injured), Jack Mahony (Injured), Luke Davies-Uniacke (Injured)

On more serious note, if he doesn't come back, North will have real list issues as they'll have to pay well over to keep players.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
