Couldn't have scripted a better way for Richmond to get dumped out of the finals. Sydney v Brisbane next week at the SCG should be another cracker.

And the Lions play well at the SCG. Beat them there earlier in the year.

Yeah, I don’t doubt the result - but the process was a disaster for the AFL. Why have goal umpires at all if a guy without clear vision of it on replay can overturn it?

The vision to overturn was clearly inconclusive - therefore umpires call.

One really annoying part of the goal review is the extra 2-3 seconds when they make the call, then say ... result on scoreboard ... seconds later.!

Surely they can just say decision is a goal, a point or no score.

You have got to love finals football

There’s been 150 finals played in the last 16 years and in only 2 of them have both teams scored over 100 points. That was an exhilarating game, but it wasn’t at all reflective of the contested intensity of finals footy.

True

Joey kicks the winning goal, until then just about BOG for the Tiges.

Funny game football.

Might be a contender for most collective clangers ever …..both teams and the umps. Error-filled, high tension, undoubtedly exciting turnover-fest.

Are they the best camera angles we have for the lynch shot? That amateur. Surely there is a behind lynch.

Write off Brisbane in a semi at your peril.

If you don't tag Neale...otherwise not sure where they get any drive.

Have a s*** one Tigs!

I can’t help but feel our venom towards Joe Daniher really spurned him on.

I’m glad that it’s the Lions through and not the Tigers. The Tigers supporters are many and insufferable, and the sudden quiet in the room is very agreeable.

Baker played on and took the advantage. You can’t change your mind half way through.

There was no advantage to take.  He was immediately tackled.as soon as he took the ball...pretty much just after the ump had blown the whistle.  In that cauldron Baker probably didnt evem hear the whistle and by the time he realised it was their free he was back peddling to say "i'll take the free"

Also 3 times the Lions lifted the ball with an open hand to their fellow player in the first half and none were called for a throw or incorrect disposal.

Thought the umpiring got better as the game went on but the first half was dodgy as, in particular a number of frees against Brisbane that appeared to be conveniently overlooked.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
