Whenever we play we will have an extra two days rest on Sydney.

Given that Sydney played today, I doubt our QF will be on the Thursday night.

It could even be Saturday afternoon to give Syd the chance to get back to Sydney that night in case they play the following week.  Finishing top 4 gives them that right.

But more likely the two QF will be Fri and Sat nights.

That was an ordinary performance by Sydney.  Whenever it is we should win!!

Didn't read earlier stuff!!!

Since the Thursday night final was introduced in 2016, they’ve never had a MCG final in the Saturday twilight slot.

Thursday or Saturday night for mine.

Thanks for the reminder.

I figured to play on the Thursday Sydney will have an 11 day break and they will probably kick up a fuss having finished top 4.

Wouldn't be surprised to see one of the EF on the Thursday night.

It should be Geelong vs Collingwood Thurs, us vs Sydney fri, freo vs dogs sat and Lions vs Tiges sat night. That way top 4 teams get more of a break, as we've earned it

Can you believe in 125 years we’ve only played the swans twice in finals??

first in 1936 and then 1987….

Thankfully the last month of footy has also helped me get accustomed to dealing with big match nerves 😅

I'm not really fussed who we play, where or when. Confident that our best trumps the rest.

Hopefully it’s a bit like the 1987 game -blew them away

Personally I think they are real threat to us they seem to match up well and their backs are pretty underrated

We need to bring our best and I hope it’s a very very pro MFC crowd just like it was in ‘87

If I remember correctly it was T Viney that kicked the first game that day to get us going - maybe J Viney this time

I don’t rate Freo

i think we’ll beat the Swans

Prelim V Pies (I can’t even begin to contemplate this or my head might explode)

GF v Cats (I can’t even begin to contemplate this or my head will definitely explode)

Or even better

 prelim  vs Gee

GF v coll

Let's not forget Geelongs finals history and Collingwoods Grand final history

My favourite poster !!!!!!!

So he’s not just Lucifer’s Hero?

If we beat Sydney we play the winner of Freo and the Dogs in the Prelim

Not unhappy with that.

Um . . . where's Carlton? Is there a mistake?

They had the premiership sewn up by round 3. We're all just playing for second place.

No matter what day or time we end up playing it is just so important that everyone that can,  actually turn up and support our boys.

They have fulfilled their end of the bargain, we must fulfil  ours.  We have over 60k members and plenty more supporters. No excuses.

We must outnumber the opposition and be bloody loud and ensure it is a very hostile environment for opposition supporters and players alike.

First off a big shout out to Saints they got within 7 points of Swans and helped us hold 2nd spot. Now we all get the opportunity to cheer on our mighty Dee’s at the G. Can’t wait for this one.❤️💙👍👌

If Collingwood lose to Geelong then we’d play winner the the Pies and Freo/Dogs semi final.

Assuming we win week 1.

Correct Jimmy.

We could play the loser of Geelong/Collingwood if they win their Second semi vs the winner of Freo/Bulldogs.

Anyone know when we are likely to find out when we play?
I have to plan an overseas trip and I want to make sure I am back before the bounce. Whenever that is.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
