I know nothing about him @Jibroni, what about him and his philosophy works for the MFC?

I dont know him either but he was highly regarded at Richmond and Adelaide and seems to have the qualities that would be attractive to Goody.

yes, he must have impressed as an assistant coach in order to get the gig at essendon

of course being the head coach is a totally different game from assistant coach as we have seen many times

Actually the solution to the Bombers  woes is the same  as ours was.

Get Peter Jackson as he set us to win a premiers ship, but they probably will not do it.

That need a whole of Club approach from the board,  that is split , Administration , development recruiting etc.

Not just the coach.

Yes, they need to sort out the whole club starting with the board.  But they won't.  It is too divided.  I read on an Ess forum that they have 2 or 3 very powerful coteries and each wants their share of reps on the board.  So even if the names change the power balance doesn't.

And yep they won't get Jackson:  Sheedy is the 'king maker' on the board.  Jackson sacked Sheedy as Essendon coach.

We can watch from afar, their factions warring for some time to come.  And Ess anchored to the bottom of the ladder.

Popcorn time!

PJ is also over 70 now. He doesn’t look it, but he is. He’s not coming back.

He is actually 69 born 1953, but he does not need to do the details, just do the strategic work.

But I agree they will probably not do it - they are a club too divided, and based on personalities.

Does anyone know if he has experience as a midfield coach? Just feel like he doesn't.

I understand the sympathy toward Rutten.

But his specialty is defence and we have an excellent defence coach in Chaplin.  That isn't to say Rutten couldn't do Yze's job but I have my doubts.  Yze is a lot more than a line (midfield) coach he also does a lot of the strategy, tactics and ball movement work.  He virtually runs the show on match day from the box.

There are a lot of reasons why Ess have been poor this year but I'm not sure Yze's role matches Rutten's strong suit.

mmmmmmm. Just like the reining premiership coach then.

Hardly been a premiership coach in 20 years that didn't go through that struggle and aaaaalmost get sacked.

Fun thing to do; comment to an Essendon support that that haven't passed 12 wins once in the last 19 seasons, then let them to correct you (2013).

Of course they panicked re the Clarkson issue.  "After all, we are entitled to the best" and now they have burned their boats.

Now they say "we need an experienced coach".  Who in their right mind would go there?

MEMO: Mark Neeld is experienced - try him.

Ross Lyon or James Hird 😂😂😂

Pink Floyd was prophetic re Jimmy

”Did you know
It was all going to go, so wrong for you?
And did you see
It was all going to be so right for me?
Why did we tell you then
You were always the golden boy then?
And that you'd never lose that light in your eyes
Hey you
Did you ever realize what you'd become?
And did you see
That it wasn't only me you were running from?
Did you know all the time but it
Never bothered you anyway?
Leading the blind while I stared out the steel in your eyes…”

Would we want anyone from their list? Wright and Merrett the only ones. Maybe Parish. But Merrett's contract would be too big now. Trainwreck indeed.

Apart from those you've mentioned, I would take Harrison Jones, Ben Hobbs and Sam Draper from their list. Zach Reid should be a decent key defender but not really a need for us.

Can kind of see why Clarkson would choose North's list over the bombers in the long run. They are under no illusion to where they're at and have hit the draft pretty hard and continue to do so.

Larkey, McKay, LDU, Simpkin, Zurhaar, Thomas, JHF, Phillips (been unlucky with illness, will come good), Powell, Taylor are a solid foundation to build a team around.

Throw in Cadman at the draft and they've got their key forward pillars for the next decade.

Choco being linked heavily to the Bumbers. I have mixed feelings at that appointment because i really like Choco as he has had IMO a bigger impact that Yze on the group. Now we are potentially going to lose both of them, which could be a disaster as you then have to back-fill. But at the same time, you dont stand in the way of senior coaching appointments.

Who do you get in to fill the void?

Before @Demonstone gets in:

That's the approach they should take. Then they can try someone new each week.

Demonstone is letting me out, thanks...

Misdirected I feel, Sheedy and Choco are two very strong personalities, oil and water.   No way Choco gets a call while Sheedy is calling the shots.   Choco was the succession plan at GWS, but next minute it's Leon Cameron in the drivers seat and Choco is out on his proverbial.

To channel the great Pete Townsend and put words in Choco's mouth "I won't get fooled again!"

I can't find the source, but it's out there somewhere that he's no longer interested in being a head coach.

edit:   To illustrate my point  Sportsbet have Choco at 15.00 to coach Essendon and David Teague at 12.00.  So Choco is no chance.  Hird is favourite at 3.75 and Lyon 4.00 (but I sense that Ross the Boss and Sheeds might not get on).

He was over the moon that we pursued him and that we offered him a long contract, I doubt he'd leave.

if you look at the history of the peptides since the 1960s to now, they pretty much have been a rabble except for when sheedy was in charge

sheedy dominated for a long, long time - 27 years, four premierships, multiple finals campaigns, and building the club into an absolute powerhouse

after coleman retired due to failing health in 67, from 1968 until 1980, five different coaches were tried, with none lasting longer than four years, until sheedy came on board in 81

but their long term history indicates that they really do tend to be fraught with internal fighting and board machinations that see them constantly cutting of their nose to spit their face

long may it continue!

KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
