Dean Kent retires

Featured Replies

Always had a soft spot for Kenty and believe had it not been for injuries he would have been an absolute gun half forward.

Will always remember his goal in Perth back in 2018 that put us into finals for the first time in 12 years. Not afraid to admit that after he kicked it I knew we were home and playing finals.

All the best Kenty!

I really liked the guy. Unfortunately his body kept him out for too long.  Good luck with his next stage

Seemed that way when they brought him into the side this week.

Massive soft spot for Kenty, loved the way he played.  Will never forget that day in Perth, I was about to collapse as he took that kick. One of my fav MFC moments of all time.

Enjoy rest of your life and well done Dean on your AFL career.

He plays game 100 as well this weekend I believe. Great effort given his injury problems

Came back to haunt us when the Saints beat us at the G in 2019. that was probably his best game of AFL!

Best of luck with your post footy career. We appreciate your efforts with us

Very gracious indeed :

DK

“I’d like to thank everyone at the Dees for making my six years there so much fun. To everyone at the Saints, the last four years have been great and I can’t thank you enough."

Didn't mind him and he had potential to be a really good player, decent pace and a booming kick. Unfortunately his body didn't give him a good run at it. Best of luck to him in retirement.

Can't imagine Jeremy Howe will be that gracious when he does his farewell speech.

Remember his very first pre season games in 2013 against North at Marvel when he nailed a set shot from outside 50. Thought we had a ripper on our hands. (Hogan also made an appearance in that game despite being underage)

Was it the GWS round 23 game that he got injured and therefore missed the 2018 finals?

I also had a soft spot for Dean as well. I cannot remember which interstate game it was (maybe Gold Coast) but he had injured his shoulder and obviously knew it was a season ending injury. The cameras showed him in the rooms and he was absolutely shattered. I can still remember the look on his face. My heart broke for him that day.

I wish him well.

Always loved watching Dean in the red and blue. He was a genuinely exciting prospect that seemed to sadly be cut down with injury whenever he was having a decent run in the team.

Aside from his pace, he had some seriously amazing goal sense and a ripping left foot.

Was that in Darwin, and it was extremely hot so they had cool rooms?

Always held out hope he would transition into the midfield. Pace, strength, big kick! But just couldn't stay injury free. Heart of gold, body of glass unfortunately.  Good luck Dean.

They were my hopes too, would have made a great dashing wingman or out of the centre. Injuries always came just when he would put some form together.

I was at that game at Optus and also remember that goal to seal it very vividly. Was a very memorable moment in the scheme of Dees history to seal a finals place after so long. Kenty was a good servant to the club that didn't reach his maximum potential, all the best for the future Kenty.

The goal for reference (scroll to about 6:30):

The little Kent!

good on him. Got the most of himself unfortunately his body couldn’t carry him

Thoroughly enjoyed these little reminders of how talented Dean was, extremely good pace, evasion and kicking ability. Nice jumper, too ... Johnny Townsend would be proud of you, Kenty. Best wishes for the future.

Good ordinary player crueled by injury.

Like others, I wish him all the best. Between him and me we played a total of 100 AFL games.

Not a bad player just cruelled by injuries.

That goal in 2018. I felt like I'd been to hell and back that day. I still remember when Dean was lining up my vision felt really cloudy (no substance jokes). It literally felt like the 12 years was crushing me and then..

BT: "If he kicks this goal, Melbourne will play finals, I reckon. He comes in, oooh very close to the man on the mark, long ball, it's a goal!"

Clarry and Gus embrace him, it may have just been a regular celebration but to me it always looked like those young men wanted it as much as we did.

I watched this game at my folks house and they still have a Foxtel box so I IQd it or whatever and to this day I haven't allowed them to delete it from the hard drive.

One of the greatest days. As for BT, it was some of the best worst commentary ever.

Kid could seriously play…

Meant to say not afraid to admit I shed a tear when he kicked that goal.

Remember the thread that night titled: "Hands up if you cried today"?

I certainly shed a tear.

Recall that incident clearly on the grandstand wing at Marrara. Lined up a crow opponent but came off seriously second best.  Flip side a younger DK kicked a terrific running goal from HFF, highlight of a very one sided game v Freo same venue.
