I fully stand by these comments.

That last three minutes was wallpaper over cracks.

I don’t dispute there are cracks. Certainly to what we were last year…

I just think we are a battler, a battler in the top 4 with a team that struggles to execute in the final third of the ground.

I don’t think it’s going to be fixed in 2 weeks, whether we finish 2nd or 6th (what a final round!).

We are survived by Hunt and Melksham at either end.

!

I am resetting expectations and hoping we can battle our way to a prelim where dreams are made and nightmares are forged…

Ben Brown's 2nd half was quite good after a very average 1st half

Triple-teamed for most of the match as the predominately lone forward target he kept at it and never gave up

Don't judge him on his first half only.  Right at the death he put his body on the line in the front of a pack and got a hand in to marking contest which led to Kossie getting the crumb ... apart from that, he had worked his way into the game and played his part.

And right now, the only alternative to Brown is Weideman.  Or someone like Smith or Tomlinson.  That is not going to happen

Brown in fact played a game tonight very similar to the game that T-Mac often plays (and T-Mac gets criticised for playing that sort of game until it's realised that value that is being underestimated)

It's a big ask playing as the lone KPF in today's footy.  Crowded forward lines, triple teamed, and battered about, often the best that can be expected is to compete and bring the ball to ground for the crumbers

And that's how we are set up to play.  We bomb to the left forward pocket or thereabouts (until the last few minutes tonight when we decided to take some risks in the corridor)

Brown won't be playing anywhere apart from the seniors ... he's a vital cog and Goodwin is probably reasonably happy with his overall output

Words can't express how cool that is Zeph.

Not many guests cared about the game until the last few minutes layz and came piling into the bedroom lol. What a finish!

The 50 metre penalty at Geelong last year was at the 47 second mark. The last boundary stoppage tonight was at the 47 second mark. Spooky. Fun fact from my 13 year old daughter. I have clearly passed the baton!! Posted last week after the filth disappointment that I had not given up in 2022 - 5 wins in a row would see us win back to back. Now it is 4 ……..Go Dees!

Gotta say…

HOW BLOODY GOOD IS MELKSY?!

So maligned by so many for so long.

Tonight he shone. SO proud of him!

To all the Melksy bashers (you know who you are)… all is forgiven. Just don’t do it again, K? K!

😁

PS @Longsufferingnomore!!! Jakey’s our star!!!

Reading through the posts, it seems some demonlanders are almost willing the boys on to lose and not win another premiership so they can be proven right!

If that is the case, that is quite sad. I’m not sure what joy you get out of following the Dees.
I’m having the best time of my life following the boys (…and most nerrrrvous time at times) and I  wouldn’t have it any other way. GO DEES!

A high pressure finals type game.  We held up just...

Jake Melksham seems to have his mojo back with consecutive games and that great Maybe that dinner fight was what he needed, to be told blunt to get his game together :)

We played good footy for 4 qtrs against a side applying high pressure the whole game, the blues didn't stop but we stood up and there were not fadeouts late int he game.

Fwd line needs some marking power back and kicking straight.

You’ve come to the wrong place.

I spent the whole game looking for an upside down Gus. Did you have face duties tonight?

We must have got flogged based on all the comments with the same sentiment as this. We are up to our eyeballs in this Premiership race. Confidence and momentum are a wonderful thing. As is the fact that we have three undeniable champions in our team.

My God there are some sad sacks here.

It could be a perfect lead-in to the finals next week if we play our best football. I have a feeling we will…

This is actually pretty close to how it went down, except my kimono is red and blue, and it has Brett Lovett’s number on the back.

Just got home.

How many of you here are the poor bastards who gave up and left with 2 mins to go?

Fess up!  😅

And it was Lever who set up both passages too....

I just got home and so did my 17yo son from his first ever concert (Sigur Rós… not too shabby for your first concert) and right now we’re both full of adrenaline and talking over the top of each, LOUDLY. There’s enough energy in this room to power an entire suburb for a week! 🤣

Just got back. What a game! Melk is a lock for the finals. Gawn was immense.  Petty is already a superstar. I  haven't witnessed the scenes of joy around me, after Kozzie kicked the goal, since beating Geelong in the EF in 2018.

Did not rate the Blues, until tonight. What a spectacle AFL is.

Didn’t kick straight and had a shocker with that play on out of bounds, but otherwise there was a very solid amount of contesting with some good clunk work too.

He’s playing up high to generate space for Melk and Fritsch too.

Did you not remember that round 23 game in Geelong? We won after the siren following a 50.

Difference is that was for top place, blues probably won’t even make finals, if we play like that vs cats, swans or pies it’s game over

I did. I had a giant Fritta head until halfway through the first quarter his mum came and sat next to me and we all know you’re giving her the giant “Bayles” head to wave or you’re toast. 🤣
I then had the “Deadly” banner in the indigenous colours which was soooo fitting at the end.

KOZZIE KOZZIE KOZZIE OI OI OI !!!

Cripps did the same thing and didn't get pinged.

Whoah, Sigur Ros as you first concert! I saw them at festival hall in about 2006, incredible.

The win was ok too, haha

On Saturday the Suns, buoyed by 3 wins on the trot, face the Dockers in a clash crucial for both teams' aspirations this season. The Suns want to solidify their Top 4 standing whilst the Dockers will be desperate to break into the 8.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
