It’s wild to think that if we had of been playing Grundy in the team we would probably be playing in a Grand Final this weekend.

What difference would he have made?

It's wild to think that if we don't lose Gus, Petty, JVR and Melksham we probably win the flag.

Grundy not playing was inconsequential to our woes in the end

I disagree.

I laid out how to use him... and also Max wisely.

We went into that game  about as dumb as you could. You needed to revise thinking...we just built a house on sand.

You may disagree...  but the game was there for the taking...we just LOST it

I presumed it was all quite professional and that Grundy understood it just wasn't working in a 'no offense taken' kind of way. But, if playing the Schachster as sub wasn't the biggest eff you Grundy, ever, I'm not sure what is.

I also can't recall Max spending much if any time up forward this year other than fleeting moments, as part of the grand ruck plan, when the two were playing. Perhaps it's just my failing memory :-(

could be they didn't want the risk of him getting a bad injury which could lower his trade value

or worst case, career ending. 5 x $650k = $3.25miilion ... down the drain plus -1 player for 5 years

In the end, we weren't going to play him so your explanation fits as the logical one, DC

I suppose once we said to the bloke that we were going down a different path (Max as the main man with a bit of help from JVR/TMac) it was as good as over

That's my theory also.

Occams Razor suggests the simplest explanation.

Mine  , we just had nfi.

All players have worth...   strangely his was greater playing ...than not.

All history now......

Not sure why folks are so perturbed about Grundy not playing nor being selected as sub.

Last year he was ready to play at about round 18/19.  He played several weeks in the VFL and he was ready to go in the seniors.  Coll did not select him for the last few rounds nor for their 3 finals.  Nor did they select him as sub for any of those games.

A similar scenario as this year at mfc.

We will never know if he would have helped us win a final.  Whatever the reason I don't see any reason to criticise the club/coaches for his non-selection.  Maybe we discovered what Coll knew or have similar reasons for not playing him.  There is precedent here.

Every time there was a selection to be made Goodie & the BT took the conservative, stick to what has worked, option. There was a lack of boldness in our selections.

Grundy & Woewodin should have played.

Grundy just can't take a trick right now.  A terrible faux pax by all involved:  carrie-bickmore-apologises-to-brodie-grundy-over-mortifying-blunder

Feeling a bit sad for him.  It must be awful for him to watch Coll play in the GF.  But then again not sure what he expected in the interview/chat.

Nobody knows how Brundy would have gone for MFC in the finals because he wasn't selectedy.  All else is speculation.

Reading that transcript just reminds me why I don't listen to empty airheads on drive radio.  Appalling and rude - and I expect she thought it was really funny.

Agree 100% Mono, I think it applies more on FM stations.

I'm sure Carrie initially did it by mistake but imagine the radio show producers etc thought it was a great opportunity to be "funny"

Poor Grundy.  He seems like such a decent and honest guy, and he's really been put through the wringer between the Pies, the media and us

Will we ever find out? Was it a non selection or Grundy cracked it? Either way it was a disastrous trade!

I would guess he made his decision to move on after he was brought back in after number of weeks at Casey, then dropped the next week.

He probably did the right thing by himself and the club as he'd effectively checked out.  And probably said so when finals arose.

No way Goody (or any sensible experienced senior coach) would risk another LJ performance in a final.  Would be like taking a very compromisef injured player in.

But then there's the Schache mystery 🤷‍♂️

Tony Sheahan predicted the Swans and pick 11 weeks before anyone else.

Obviously some spice added to Grundy deal needed to get 11.

I hope he is right.

I thought Grundys tap work and efforts below his knees were very good.

There is a very glaring downside to him though.....He can't mark to save himself.

A very important skill for any ruckman.

See ya Grundy.

The biggest one was a five gamer kid all of which weren't stand outs in Laurie the sub  in tge qf. Goody wasn't prepared to play him all game but it happens and it  exposed a very, very poor decision. Why pick a very inexperienced kid in a qf fgs?

Things we couldn’t control versus things we could.

The Schache sub selection to then not even use him will go down as one of the greatest coaching failures of all time.

Who knows deeves.

Stocks were definitely low at Casey in terms of quality in-form options coming in to finals once the likes of Melk & Petty went down.

Watching Melk do his knee against the Swans i couldn't help but think at the time, there goes any chance of a GF appearance.

Was hoping for a Prelim minimum but alas.   Here we are looking ahead to the draft / Grundy & JJ trade outcomes etc.

Pies decision to get rid of Grundy was justified.

Grundy is probably wondering how Frampton has a premiership medallion, whilst he got the lemon and sars from the club he loved.

So where has the Harmes to Sydney rumour come from? If true I wonder if it will be a separate deal or incorporated into the Grundy trade.

Whats worse really is the qualification of what "worked"... a lot didnt.

It's sent to history's basement now.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
