To get the Treloar deal done the Pies made it known they would pay $300k of his $900k salary for five years.

If you could get them to pay $400k of his $1M  Grundy could fit money wise for us

That seems like a pipe dream on the surface DJ, as I would assume it would be closer to 200-250 a year if we're simply allocating Jacksons dosh to Grundy. BUT what will be an interesting quandary for the Pies, is how long can they hold out on money negotiations if they need Grundy to go to prevent DeGoey DeGoing to the Saints and McStay McComing to the Pies. Would they get desperate and do the 400k deal ? What kind of pick would they demand off us? If we hold out long enough to pressure them, would they do Grundy for a late pick AND take a good enough 300-400k chunk  We have some leverage to get a good deal like you said.

My concern I have with the whole Grundy saga is what draft capital we have to give up?

Jay Clark on triple M stated that the two first rounders we'll get from Freo which he thinks we'll be in the teens, one we'll go to Collingwood for Collingwood.

If this is the case then we're making a huge mistake giving away a first round pick for a ruckman who's going to be 29 next year.

Yes it's a big risk but I think the club is in a premiership window so they're looking at who can help us win flags in the next three years rather than in the long term

It would have to be a pick swap surely. Freo's 1st and 2nd for Collingwoods 1st and 2nd, if it's say 12-14 for 16-17? and 30-32 for 34-35. Anyway, Clark is just spitballing like we are.

I'd be very keen on him if a 2nd rounder is all we gave up

Not keen if we have to spend a 1st on him though, would prefer to go down the journeyman ruck route at that price

I'd rather years of sustained success, not 3 years and then a significant drop off the cliff.

You need s good balance of bringing in key players that can certainly help straight away but a breed of new talent as well.

If we are giving up a 1st rd pick for him the I’d suggest they would be paying a large portion of his wage.  If we are giving up a 2nd or 3rd pick would suggest we are paying the larger portion.

For me we shouldn't be giving up a first round pick for a 29 year old ruckman.

Regardless of who pays how much portion of the salary. That's just silly, especially coming off some significant injury concerns.

For me doesn't do enough to warrant such a salary,  They would want a club to pay at least $700k of a $1.2 million a year contract, Collingwood have just worked out they have been dudded once again.😂

Had one good season in a contract year and Collingwood as they tend to do are paying overs for players who don't deserve it.

Collingwood have no payment structure whatsoever. That's why continually find themselves under salary cap pressure.

"...Collingwood have just worked out they have been dudded once again.😂..."

You mean they have greedily stuffed themselves up once again.  Footscray' and Adam Trealor say "hi".

a bit expensive to take grundy's contract. he's stiill got 5 years to go at over $1m/yr.  so even if the filth pay some for 5 years,  the remainder and risk of 5 years length will dissuade most suitors

Maybe the Magpies will have to pay well over 50% of their contracted payment? 😀

They want to clear $700k from their cap. We GET the 2nd rounder, not give it up…

This is a classic NBA salary dump.

They pay, we don’t.

Not for me.

5 years and $3.5 million. - he’s 29 Ouch!

Just too rich and we haven’t done all that well with Collingwood trades.

Not sure how the cats could afford him ,but happy for them to take the risk and clog up salary cap.

We have a few we will have to tidy up next year.

Make them sweat and wait til the last day of the trade period. The Pies need the space, they have zero negotiation power. Zero chance of us giving half the LJ picks to the Pies (first rounder)

wgat did the dogs give up for Treloar, a gun in his prime?? With 4 years left

The prospect of making this deal is looking worse and worse

Imagine trading out Jacko and a first rounder and getting grundy on a monster contract at the end of this 🤮

That's the biggest hurdle to all of it. Can't justify paying this much for a part time Ruckman.

If his Foot heals up and can take AFL Punishment he would be a great double act with Max for 2-3 years

costing $300,000 a year would be a potential bargain. The Filth can pay the rest.
But they are the only terms I would entertain. He is not worth any more. Foot injuries rarely go away fully

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
