Dogs right to turn it down when they need to get Lobb. The Lions then traded 15, then traded the future 2nd they got for 15 rather than just iron out the deal with the dogs. Lions need to add something nice to the future first to get it done and haven’t come up with that nice piece. We aren’t doing the public song and dance but Freo might be doing something similar and if they had other priorities on players to bring in I bet they’d be trying them. The public comments is just a bit of fun and games for the supporters and media. It always gets overrated. Lucky for us they know wc will take him if such a thing happened so they have to deal if they want him 1 Quote

Another missed opportunity to fix the key fwds. cos he's not a forward. He's not a ruck, and Port are interested in him as a key back. He still could help our key forwards though.... by playing key back when we play port. 2 3 Quote

Ratugolea wouldn't make us any better. It's roughly the mid-point of the trade period. There have only been a few trades finalised at this point and I'd suggest we wait until it's over rather than jumping to hasty conclusions. Let's see what eventuates. The other point I would make is that, just because there has been no publicity, doesn't mean we're not taking "shots" at players we think may be attainable and who would improve our list. 5 Quote

In a normal year around half the clubs make no trades and in reality there are very few players who change clubs - and many of those who do are fringe, no-longer-required players. In any case, we're already in line for Grundy, who'll be one of the biggest trades of the year, which is hard to reconcile with us "not firing a shot". 2 1 Quote

You ready: Lever, May, Langdon, Ben Brown after 2018, we recognised that we needed backs. In came Lever and May. we won in 2021 after smart recruiting tht targeted weaknesses. after 2021, we seemed to be content. Made almost zero changes. We didn’t win 2022 🏆, so I thi k we should look at getting some players in to fill some gaps and weaknesses. So far, we are getting in a Ruckman, whilst having the AA ruckman already, a position many clubs see an unimportant. Meanwhile Geelong are cashing in on young talent from other clubs and have a better draft hand than us. 1 1 Quote

Selwood and Hawkins the only players who were there for 2009. In fact - whilst I said 2 flags, only 3 players were there for 2012 - Selwood, Hawkins, Duncan. So you could argue they've only won 1 with this current list. Prem windows last c.6-10 years usually off the back of a core cohort hitting 23/24 until they reach 30-34. They only grabbed one right at the end, aided by a couple of multi-flag heroes that have had long and storied careers, who they will not replace with ease. I'm not sure how else I can make my point? Their Prem window has been open since 2007ie 16 years. Look at their record of Finals games etc. Missed Finals only once in that time in 2015. You have tried to categorise the teams that have won Flags. A dynasty is over a period with different players involved but a .Flag team may be more prevalent at a different time of their window. It doesn't matter how or who are in the team can be a Baby Bombers style team ie very young or an old team like this years Cats. It's the total of years when a Flag window is open that brings a Dynasty together involving all different players in those years. Usually some champions are in the teams glueing the side together. We are starting our Run last year and if we continue to make Finals and win some more Flags over the next 3/6 years it will be our Dynasty. 1 Quote

Roost it far 10,136 Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 We have the best midfield in the comp, one of the top few defences in the comp but we lack a key forward and perhaps some outside dash. Key forwards are very hard to come by and unless it's the Suns or GWS rarely get let go by clubs. We're getting Grundy, improving our draft hand this year and next and have 2-3 AFL standard players ready at Casey to step up in 2023. We've still got a week to go and then the draft, how can anyone say we're sitting on our hands with regards to our list. Our list is the envy of the competition and as far as I can see it's only injuries between us and at least one more Premiership. Geelong are a couple injuries away from getting flogged in Semi's again, the Swans showed they've got a while to go, the Tiges are trying to do a Geelong and the Pies will fall back as that run was very flukey. I'm personally very bullish about 2023 and I'm very rarely wrong. :) 6 Quote
