Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

4 flags in 15 years 2009 and 2011. Not 2 a decade apart .

Weird hill to die on mate. Selwood the only 'current' player who was there for 2007. Selwood and Hawkins the only players who were there for 2009.

In fact - whilst I said 2 flags, only 3 players were there for 2012 - Selwood, Hawkins, Duncan. So you could argue they've only won 1 with this current list.

Prem windows last c.6-10 years usually off the back of a core cohort hitting 23/24 until they reach 30-34. They only grabbed one right at the end, aided by a couple of multi-flag heroes that have had long and storied careers, who they will not replace with ease.

I'm not sure how else I can make my point?

Gold Coast should be even more excited.

Same state and they’ve been freeing up cap space all post season.

They could sign Dunkley then trade him and a future first to get off the salary

On Dunkley.  AFL website reports:  "The Lions put forward pick 15 and a future first-round pick for Dunkley but were keen to get picks 30, 39 and a future third-round back, which would have seen them essentially splitting for points as well as getting Dunkley".

Bulldogs turned it down, pick 15 was traded out and now they are bleating about what Brisbane can offer and threatening the PSD.  Bulldogs should have learnt their lesson with the Stringer trade a few years ago.  Knocked back the picks offered, Ess traded some out and Bulldogs got a fair bit less than the initial offer.

Bulldogs showing lack of understanding of what the other party needs:  points for their F/S which clearly the Lions have prioritised..

Lots of grandstanding happening at the kennel over Dunkley.  No way will they send thier BnF into the PSD.  Also, losing some cred in not being able to smoothly get deals done.  They should wisen up.  They can't win every trade!!

They've had a sustained successful period with this list, but only 2 flags a long time apart. I wouldn't call that a dynasty given the players they've had at their disposal. The Tigers achieved more with less.

Geelong’s first dynasty ended in 2011 and hung around on the way down until 2015.

Their current side has been building since then with big ticket recruits in Dangerfield and Jeremy Cameron. But it’s finding elite players in Stewart and Blicavs that really put them over the top. Tim Kelly creating the picks for Cameron too.

These new recruits are really about keeping this current window alive, which might fade with the over 30’s the next few years.

What the cats have mastered though is staying towards the top and only needing to sign 1 gun free agent every few years and draft or develop 1 superstar to then get back right at the top.

Corbett clearly not rated highly by Gold Coast.  A future fourth rounder?

That's not even a packet of chips, it's the little crumby bits at the bottom of the bag.

Sometimes those bits have the most flavour... but I'm not sure how to turn that into a footy analogy...

He’s an unproven 26 year old who’s undersized for the role he plays. He’s barely worth a pick in a trade and will only get a game at Freo because their forward line is WAFL league level trash.

But going by that analogy, we haven't accepted Freo's first offer so it's our fault if we get nothing for Jackson.  For the lions to bring in Dunkley the dogs b&f winner, they should be taking a hit and not getting it all their own way.  They have two father sons coming in and need points - but they can go into deficit next year as well.  Surely it's fair enough for the dogs to stand their ground as we would expect the dees to with Freo.

What am I missing?

I'd rather be us with Jackson than the Dogs with Dunkley.  That deal looks very hard to get done now with anything reasonable to the Dogs.

The Bulldogs have form in grandstanding, being stubborn, rejecting good deals end up shooting themselves in the foot. eg Stringer.  They are a bit like Diodoro wanting to 'win the trade' rather than like us who look at the big picture.

If we have turned down a Freo offer it isn't public. We have a reputation of getting deals done smoothly and fairly.

Grandstander vs Honest broker.

Maybe that's the advantage of our approach - the Stringer deal was years ago and it still taints them?  I feel like in this case the dogs haven't done much wrong and the lions are over-reaching because they can.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
