2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

I wouldn’t sleep on his Tassie midfield running mate in McKercher either. One of the classiest midfielders in this years group.

I wouldn't draft a Tasmanian, assuming that the league will make all Tasmanian's UFA's or similar before the Devils enter the comp.

2023 AFL Draft Rankings: May Edition

Thanks WJ I am really looking forward to this years draft and hope that we top up the list, definitely need two quality mids, a tall defender or possibly a young tall, plus Kynan Brown. Prefer that we don’t trade out our crop of picks for 1 - 2 players.!!

Definitely still Darcy Wilson as our main target imv.  Ryley Sanders is another youngster who would add a nice mix to our future midfield (but with a Tassie team joining in 3-4 years, clubs may be reluctant to pick him up). Cooper Simpson is the other young kid who should be closely considered by the Dees.

Why do you think Darcy Wilson is Pur main target? Just a feel or do you know something?

According to the AFL website. These are our NGA prospects this year. Anyone know anything about them?

MELBOURNE

Luke Morrell
Alonzo Rockland-Nelson
Orlando Turner
Kaleel Ross
Buay Duac

Turner is probably our best prospect

AFL ACADEMY V CARLTON VFL team

scouting notes

#11 Orlando Turner (Norwood/Northern Territory)
16/05/2005 | 176cm | 67kg | Small Forward/Wing

The sole Northern Territory representative in the Academy ended the day as his side’s sole multiple goal kicker, taking his opportunities in the third quarter to help strengthen the Academy lead. Whilst Turner started as a small forward, it was a move to the wing in the second half that saw him really work into the game. He still applied the same level of pressure and intercepted a few Carlton forays in the front half, but also increased his production and damage with more opportunities in space. Both of Turner’s goals came from set shots; one after marking an attempted switch kick, and the other after going in for the ball and copping high contact. He could even have had a couple of more goals if he held a bit more composure on the run.

Tasmania v Northern Territory Academy:

Northern Territory

#1 Orlando Turner

After representing Australia with the National Academy last week, Turner proved a handy addition for the Northern Territory and finished as his side’s lone multiple goalkicker. Turner, who usually plies his trade with Norwood in the SANFL, was electric across half-forward and also enjoyed stints in midfield. Among his highlight reel was a goal from the centre square, which ran about 20 metres over the back and through the big sticks. That moment was indicative of the forward’s willingness to move the ball on quickly, and he seemed to thrive on every opportunity to get creative or take opponents on in the attacking half. A true bright spark.

Great name, like one you'd see in an NFL/NBA draft!

Sound like he has the smarts and a reasonable kick.

Not enough Alonzo’s in the AFL. Takes a hanger on the wing, and the members rise as one ‘Lonzooooooooooo!’

imv this seems like a really weak draft, understanding we're many months out and champs are just about to kick off, but not hearing the same excitement and conviction about top 10 prospects as we have in previous years outside of Reid, listening to this weeks gettable podcast twomey has sold me on us playing a part in trading for pick 1 but not in the way we'd expect, using out first round picks to move for experienced senior players ie a barrass/allen or a larkey/lewis/mckay or a mking who can fill a need immediately and help get pick 1 from the eagles to elsewhere and load them up with multiple first round selections.

The other option which appeals to me would be to move our picks back to next year as we also don't have as many obvious contracted exits this seaosn and should we pick up ky brown as expected and now Orlando turner being on the radar too we'd only be required to make one open pick. whereas next year we seem to have more decisions to make given our current fringe/young mob would be 3-4 year players by then and our tall veterans an extra year older and ooc.

As we know JT and lamby are always cooking up something nice behind the scenes

Isn't McKay from North a RFA? He'd be a nice get (for no loss of picks), wonder if we've had a word with his or HH's managers

Would like our 1st pick used, then trade our other first rounder with Freo's 2nd to move up so that we don't need to use them on K Brown, assuming he's seen in the top 30.

Will be v interesting to see what JT and Lamby can do with what we have

It's Game Day and this could be the Demons last roll of the dice for their chances at making finals this season as the come face to face with the hot and cold GWS Giants tonight at the MCG in a true 8 point game.

    CONSISTENCY by The Oracle

"I think we have got a team that can win a premiership, and if we get in this year, I don't think there is a team that is going to want to play us. This year is not a write-off, I don't concede that. Not at all." — Collingwood President Jeff Browne. I love this sort of optimism from the Magpie President after his club’s eleven goal defeat at the hands of the fast rising Hawks. It’s consistent with the fighting spirit of the club that won last year’s flag.  I only wish I could say the s

    FEARS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne’s worst fears about the absence of Max Gawn were realised when it received a shellacking from Fremantle’s ruckmen Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson who dominated the hit out tally in their game at Optus Stadium on Sunday by a massive 47 to 19. As a result, the 50-point deficit at the end of the game proved to be a loss that was long foreseen that was two years in the making and demonstrated a complete lack of hindsight and planning from the club. To add insult to injury, Jackson was a D
