Energy level go up and down for a variety of reasons and the loading talk has for whatever reason become the main talking point.

You post too many times a day for me to trawl back through posts. And it's not even "a lot more" airtime. It's "any".

Aside from Chris Scott talking about it, I haven't heard it talked about once from any relevant ex player and now commentator. Lewis, Reiwoldt, Montagna, Hodge, Watson etc etc.

Why?

Perhaps your over estimating the analytical abilities of those you’ve mentioned

I just watched the All The Goals package.  How poorly is that edited?  It shows the set shots, but none of whatever (mark, freekick, 50m penalty) that lead to the set shot.  And the Spargo goal?  It didn't show the Viney tackle/bullock that caused it.  Such a let down when the website does so many other things so well.

Won't even play for me, nor the highlights on the AFL site.  Just getting the spinning wheel of death.

Brayshaw remains my favourite current Dees player. He was sublime last night. His defensive running followed by midfield linking up, followed by delivery into the F50.

My apologies to Hibbo, I thought he was done and others would overtake him. Stuff me, he was brutal on Cameron and his run and dash is back.

ANB emerged from a genuine form slump.

Jordon is such a good player, just so impressive and sure of himself.

Kozzie, Spargo and Bedford - wow!

Good work on some of the unsung .  They were a well greased unit last night. Brayshaw, another top game his perception is sublime and Hibberd is a specialist.

That game was so bloody important, have a look at the draw

It could decide the difference in several positions at the end of the year, particularly ours

I think we simply went away from doing the basics right which then had the flow on effect of dustrupting all other parts of our game.

Contested possessions, clearances and tackling pressure were all back last night and that allowed the game to be played on our terms.

I agree that the core parts of game were back, particularly pressure. But it didn’t seem clear to me that they were present in the first quarter. In fact I was a bit worried early on.  Were we just slow to get going or did we perhaps make a conscious strategic decision to just stay in it in the first Q (which we did) and then really up the pressure from Q2 onwards?

That would not only be a significant strategic change from the past few weeks but our approach to pacing last year. Generally we would go hard in the first, ease off a little in the second, hard again in the third, and then hold in the fourth (with the exception of the PF and GF, where we kept the foot on the pedal until the end).

Interesting, Maybe some analysis is needed to this.

Last year, our defensive structure was strong 1st half, conserved energy before running over teams in the 2nd half, esp last quarters.

That was our DNA last year. Going hard 4 quarters isn't possible in a 23 games. We only need to do this for 3 games guys.

Agree Jacey, it would be a change to how we pace ourselves more broadly not just the last few weeks.

Generally we seem to start fast in Q1, ease off a bit in Q2, really put the foot down in Q3, and then hold in Q4 (except the PF and GF where we just kept the foot on the pedal until the end).

Michael Hibberd needs a pat on the back for his job on Cameron, would not know he was playing last night. Can never underestimate his value to the backline.

He brutalised Cameron.  One of the great blanket jobs.  And not for the first time on Cameron.  Loves the big stage and challenge.

Don't underestimate Harmes' impact on Neil either.  Kept him to a lowly 17 effectives (for him), a miserly three inside 50s and no goals. All while kicking two himself.

Best game I have seen from the team since the GF.

Great pressure on the ball and the ball carrier all over the ground.

The first quarter I was seeing a lot of missed connections but upon re-watching, I think that was because the Lions brought their pressure during the first quarter. that dropped off towards the end of the quarter and the Dees kept the pressure turned up for the whole of the match.

I was of the belief after selection that we were a player light in the middle but the output and pressure of the 4 Horsemen in Viney, Petracca, Oliver and Harmes negated any need for additional firepower in that area. All were immense with Viney having one of his best ever matches and Harmes doing a job stopping Neal and hurting him the other way.

Jackson had a good game and the meshing with Weideman was excellent.

In all, I loved seeing the return to form of the team and the players looking like they were enjoying themselves out there.

Go Dees!

I have been reliably informed that we have far superior banner makers.

Did you sit with anyone famous, did you have a Big Head?

On the subject of the big heads, what's with the Gawn one? It looks like he's had his eyes gauged out. It's creepy looking. Can someone in the cheer squad give Max back his eyes? Thanks

Amazing performance and very happy with the team. I think we could go all the way again! But please will the pathetic opposition sooks ( Brisbane, Sydney, Collingwood etc) stop booing our players every time we kick for goal at a set shot. It was great to have the majority of that noise drowned out by our own supporters so let’s keep getting to the game in numbers!

At some point someone has stuck a plastic tube behind each eyeball, perhaps to make holding it up easier. Maybe the pressure over time weakened those areas, Maxy’s eyeballs being the casualties.

This is from last night…

I love how there’s a giant Kozzy revelling in Spargypants’s goal. 😁

Random observation but I kept a keen on Deven Robertson knowing that we were fairly interested in his in the 2019 draft. We were obviously desperate to pick him in the draft had he drifted out to the Trent Rivers pick and imo it would have been a giant steal at the time. Larke Medallist and there were comparisons to Joel Selwood.

On his performance last night I was so disappointed in what I saw. In fact he looked like a genuine plodder and only had the 8 disposal as an on baller. In fact, looking at his overall career stats it seems like he hasn't really cemented a spot in the senior side and has had some underwhelming numbers.

Having just got out of hospital this week, so unable to go, I watched the game on TV. The commentators in the main were pretty good (no BT or Brayshaw) BUT if I had to hear from "Gill the Dill's brother" one more time about Dogga moving back to W.A. I was ready to throw something at the TV.

Only to be replicated on SEN today by DerrrWayne.  Give me strength. Oh and to just prove he knows footy he stated from the top of his show that there are 9 teams capable of beating Melbourne in the grand final. The amount of calls and text's calling him out on that had him backtracking furiously. Was driving around with a smile listening to him being called out.

he is a pure inside mid currently being played on the half forward flank

it's weird - doesn't seem to be part of their rotations

meth coke should go for him

Ashamed to admit I had DerrWayne on in the background today as well!

concur with what you said. And further towards the end of his show, he had a whinge towards all the negative texts he copped today:- referencing the “[censored] file” that Gary Lyon goes on about.

Seriously Derwayne what do you expect?? You have spent the last couple of weeks, talking about all the doubts about Melb, and how we have come back to the pack etc etc :- As a highly paid media performer would expect even just a consideration that maybe it was a meaningless mid season form slump

Poor bloke had got himself excited thinking that the cats were a chance this year!!

Sorry derwayne:- not this year, and for your sake I hope we aren’t the ones to finish Geel season in the prelim again like last year

Loved the run from centre bounces and the relentless manic pressure last night. Reminded me of last year's finals...

Viney's performance was one of his best in a Dees jumper, knocked himself out and went straight back into the middle, couldn't get tackled and reorganised someone's spine with that pile driver of a hit in the last.

Should've had a goal too but Nibbler burnt him almost as bad as Fritta did Trac.

This was the one that Harris Andrews spoiled over the line right??

If it is, I thought the exact same when I saw it unfold. A goal would have topped it off for him but a stellar performance nonetheless.

That's the one.  Watch from the d50 transition 1:37:27 on the AFL replay.

Was trying to tag Oliver, right?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
