I was lucky enough to see that game live - for me it was really the start of believing we were the real deal

Up to half time they had us covered easily - second half we simply ran harder and moved the ball quickly. Zac Bailey was very handy for them with 4 goals so him out is a positive - flip side we got 3 or 4 I think from TMac who is missing :(

If we don't lift our intensity significantly and get more efficient with ball in hand we can't win tonight - hopefully tonight things change and they can get the season back on track

I also saw that game live and like Sydee, I came away believing that we were the real deal for the first time in decades! They had won something like 8 on the trot and came out in the first half like they were going to put us to the torch as well. We hung on and then gave it back to them in spades in the second half, they were gone half way through the third quarter. Huge game for us tonight I reckon. For what it's worth, I think that without TMac, we'll struggle to win the flag this year unless the Weid stands up. Let's all get behind him tonight!

I’ve arrived in Old Melbourne Town, can’t wait for tonight.
Our defence is still rated no.1 even after the last 3 weeks, May couldn’t be back at a better time as the Lions are the no.1 scoring side in the comp.
I want to see us open the fwd line right up, Brown to play the TMac role and push up the ground and Fritsch out of the square. Plenty of magic from Kosi and Bedford. Petracca to start nailing his opportunities. Tonight is massive, give em hell.

I want to go, but won't know until late in the day (and possibly too late) what my work commitments will be tomorrow. Thursday night games are a terrible timeslot. (I know it's been said often, but the rage needs to be maintained to ensure the Commission gets the message).

Others will have their own view, but if this game was Saturday afternoon, I'd expect around 50,000. Tonight we'll be lucky to reach 30,000.

Well my MFCSS flew off the tea cup holder a couple of weeks ago and is now orbiting around in space trying to work out 2 things. How are we going to kick goals and how will we play without max.

Melbourne 30+, Petracca BOG, Collective sigh of relief at Demonland

There won't be a big crowd so Trac will feel flat running out according to his past comments.

Seriously though I'm looking forward tonight to see Jackson in the ruck and see if he can step up, May down back and he'd want to play well and Jack leading out this team.

We want top spot back. Get it boys

Another plug for this game:  GA tickets are just $12 and kids are free:

So if you can get there to support the cause and support the team.

After all they are desperate to go back-to-back FOR US, so we their fans can see them lift the cup at the G.

It will be a relatively warm night and no rain.

And, if at the game make lots of noise!!

The worry for me is their fwd line which is best in the league imo

Hipwood Daniher McStay will gel at some stage so I hope it’s not tonight

Bailey might be out but Cameron and McCarthy are very good

This game could be the GF preview and both clubs have a lot to gain from winning:

  • Dees:  avoid 4 in a row.
  • Lions:  win at the G for the first time since 2010.
  • Both:  top spot and a game ahead of 3rd and maybe even 2nd.

Big stakes.  Both teams will give it all for those reasons.  Really worth seeing live!

Totally see where you're coming from.

However, on the flip side a lot of people love Thursday night games (especially for something to watch on TV) and can't see a reason why they're not on weekly.

2 minutes ago, whatwhat say what said:

he's welcome to kick 5 goals if we win by 5 goals again

Be interesting how the Lions forward line functions tonight compared to the qualifying final as they had Hipwood out and McStay went off in the opening quarter.

They clearly targeted Cameron as their main option as they didn't have the talls at their disposal that they will have tonight (unless you count Fullerton who had 0 marks)

a message to Ben Brown, please just do something tonight.

Another message to Ben Brown: run for the whole match, finding space and hold 'em - kick long and straight, lose opponents; otherwise, prepare to play with Casey for as long as you can.

Lions have played at the MCG 21 times since the end of 2008 for 2 wins. The last win was v Coll in 2014.

They have lost the last 9 games there.

Let's smash em Dees

Hope we shut down Cameron early. He seems to get off the chain regularly against us

He got hold of Joel Smith last time. Suspect Hibberd will be a better match up

As others have noted, bailey out is huge.

One, he is a total gun.

Two, he is the exactly the sort of forward we struggle to contain ie gun small to medium goal kickers.

The lions usually really stretch us in that regard, because they have bailey and Cameron (not to mention half forwards McCarthy and this year raynor, and mids like mccluggage).

With bailey out we have more options for Cameron.

On that, you'd think hibbo gets first crack on Cameron.

This could be a crucial match up.

Hibbo has the experience, Charlie has the toe. Will be interesting.

May to repay the faith with a B.O.G. performance....then goes down late in the last quarter with a Hammy or Quad injury after running himself into the ground  We win by 2 goals, but our defensive structure is majorly compromised for the remainder of season.

The last 3 weeks my MFCSS is back in full swing.

Go Demons, regain your mojo!!

I honestly just want to see the Melbourne DNA back on display tonight.

We've looked a million miles off our usual effort and spread the last month. I hope tonight we are back at it. Even if we lose, at least it will signal to me that we are back in the hunt.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
