So a new account of what is supposed to have happened appears every 12 hours and we see 5 pages of posters commenting on it as if it is an accurate account and wringing their hands. Then a new account appears and we are off again.

The more I hear about this, the more disappointed I get.
May getting stuck into a younger teammate, senior players like Hibbo not stepping in to stop May from drinking. The whole thing is just rubbish.

Let’s hope it makes us stronger. But right now it’s only made us a bad headline.

We put these guys on a pedestal but at the end of the day they are predominantly Alpha males with high salaries and low education.

The industry is changing and people have the best intentions to change the traits and behaviour in young men, but the reality is that it won't be for another generation or so until these sorts of things are truly stamped out.

It's a terrible situation for the club but I'm shocked at the amount of reactions that seem to be disgusted to a level that suggests they are naive to the realities of footy clubs and footy players.

I wonder how long until the story involves a dwarf being set on fire.

who set Spargo on fire, or did Bowey light a fart?

FMD I am going to enjoy a win on QB, Petracca or Clarrie to bust 50 possies, Viney to have 10 tackles, Langdon 500m+ gained, Jackson 4 Goals, Kossie finally take mark of the year, Gawn to kick 2 x 50m goals and be anointed God.

and Goody to play a straight bat on 360 Monday night.

back when life was a bit more fun, before the current “woke apology” era we live in

If we all stop giving it any thought it stops having any power. It happened. Move on.

Remember when Spargo and Pickett got suspended for taking an Uber during Covid, or when Oliver got caught drunk driving, or when TMac said vaccines shouldn’t be mandatory? I don’t really either - as I had to google all those stories to fact check.

None of these things matter if the team plays well together. Take a deep breath, picture Gawn holding the cup, and let it blow over. The footy media is just bored as we are in the bye weeks. Don’t get sucked in.

"The Melbourne Football Club. The only thing not surprising about this is that it happened at a French restaurant..."

Yeh not the most imaginative attempt at humour  from Mick.

Prefer Sam's witty style eg;  attended said restaurant with the Melbourne boys and all i'll say is when it comes to splitting the bill....

Some of the hand wringing here is incredible. Guess what, folks. They're footy players. They're making good cash, they're full of testosterone, they've got big egos and big profiles, and they're not the sharpest tools in the shed. It happens. Learn from it and move on.

If this thread was only allowed to commented in by people who hadn't said dumb things when they were [censored] up, there would be way fewer comments.

Agree with your posts tonight DemonWA, but these are not lowly educated people.   Unlike say soccer in parts of the world where kids are pulled from schools pre teen,  the majority of AFL players are well educated and well spoken, having completed 12+ years of schooling.  Steven May went to Melbourne Grammar!   Thats not to say well he should 'know better'. Of course he does.

The core issue as you suggest is simply alpha male behaviour itself fueled by alcohol.   No way any of this happens without alcohol.   And as such ill take the well overs on a generation until it being 'stamped out' completely.

I went to a private boys school and perhaps that's where the culture of Banter/bringing people down as a form of one-upmanship is embedded. Agree that without alcohol the line doesn't get crossed though.

Going to Melbourne Grammar does not mean you are well educated. It just means that you are sat in a room where you have a better opportunity of becoming well educated than some other environments. I have worked in top private schools and they are full of people who are not intellectually aware.

It’s simple. Win this week and by the time the bye comes around the media blood trail will have diverted onto their next target.

Lose this week and the stench will linger…

Let the club sort May out. I take solace in knowing this will only make him even hungrier through embarrassment alone.

Hey just wondering... weren't we (in a legal sense) the "Narm" Football Club up till midnight last Sunday!??

If so, then technically members of the MFC were not at said restaurant and have nothing to answer for.

The restaurant's beef is with Narm F.C. !!

And... the May that was on the frothies breaking protocol was the Narm version of May and NOT the MFC one!

If that is the case then the MFC Maysie is still able to play QB!!!

You bloody bewdy Newc!

Yes, Gawn is an impressive leader, on and off the field. Goodwin? I find his silence thus far on this fiasco a little odd.

I sort of don’t.  I feel that it was somehow most appropriate that Max being the captain of the playing group fronted the media. And what a job he did! Sort of syncs with the players meeting they held at a golf club a year or so ago where they addressed players ‘banter’ impacting on their value systems and just recently in a podcast he took part in. ( I know I’m not articulating this very well).

I reckon it is in fact great that Goody did not have to front the press on this matter thus far. I am sure if we lose on the weekend (or even win) the matter will be raised with Goody in the after match press conference.

I feel the MFC is blessed having both Max and Goody! GO DEES

I was wondering if Entrecôte have been a little constrained as it does seem that a contributing factor may involve their breaching responsible serving of alcohol regulations.  🧐

We were Melbourne by the time we rocked up to play Sydney on the weekend, well some rocked up, so unfortunately your joke missed it by that much.

Yeah, it’s called progress. Who knew people wanted apologies for things that done them wrong.

Of course you go and demean people and get in fights and break other peoples [censored] and send nasty texts that get into the public all the time and NEEEVVVVEEERRR have to apologise.

Coz that’s what a good and proper society does, yessir!

I saw in Fraser Rosman's instagram story that he took who I assume to be his girlfriend to Entrecote last night. Maybe the club has asked the boys to go and support them over the next few days

On that basis we are on track and nothing to see here RP yes?

So I don’t comment much, but the divide that May is causing to the club, should position him to be gone at the end of the year, we should be relying on Lever, Petty and Turner to take the backline forward. May is someone that doesn’t take much notice of anyone.

Only a Royal could make a comment like that

If the article in todays sun is anywhere near correct May should seriously reconsider his relationship with alcohol.

It's  a pretty easy choice as to which Club to be at at the moment.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
