Pretty much as expected for a ‘squad’.
Presumably, all those named will travel to Perth.

That squad is just about a strong as you are going to get week to week in the H&A season. Salem to come back in to the back 50 team when fit and in form and that is about the only thing we need to top up this team.

Harmes, Jackson, Jordon and Pickett on the IC.

Presumably Bedford out so he can actually play a match, albeit in the VFL. Otherwise, presumably no change and Chandler and Mitch Brown being rewarded for decent performances in the VFL and being take across as insurance. Interesting that Daw isn't an emergency, either Max is a certainty or Daw is injured (though not listed anywhere).

No change,   but I would love for milkshake to get to 200 games

Tomlinson on the extended bench presumably as cover for Lever who some observers last week thought was suffering from something more severe than a corky.

The VFL has a bye next week, so giving Bedford a game at Casey makes sense.

Something I do not understand with the fixtures AFL/VFL.

This week we play on Sunday over in the West and Casey plays the same day against North in Melbourne. we will need to take 4 players over as emergency reserves so they will not be able to get a run at Casey.

Next week we play North in the AFL and both Casey and North VFL teams have a bye... am I missing something?

The emergencies that travel across to Perth will therefore miss two week of matches.

Please tell me that somewhere this makes sense. Have I read it wrong?

Seems like the timing of the Casey game and the following bye is a factor for players like Bedford, Weideman and Laurie with the aim to get a full game in prior to the bye. Hopefully Weideman puts his best foot forward without Brown in the team to keep pressure on McDonald.

As pointed out, the emergencies in this game are likely to miss two weeks of footy unless they get elevated to the seniors.

Good call giving Weed some game continuity

WC team is not as bad as people are saying - around 14 first 22 players are there.

West Coast ins and outs are confusing. Who are these people?

That west coast team 🤭

Their spine of Barrass, McGovern, Kelly, Darling, Kennedy is impressive on paper. They're not missing many from their best 22. NicNat, Yeo, Shuey, Rioli, Allen and Cripps are the only ones that come to mind.

As Goody says, you need to respect the opposition. It wasn't long ago that opposition supporters would have been mocking our line-up.

Finally Bedford gets dropped. Sick of this guy getting 0 touches a game week after week without consequences.

I feel sorry for Declan Mountford, whoever that is. Imagine getting dropped from West Coast right now.

The way the Eagles have played they haven’t earned much respect this season: we really should be flogging this very weak looking line up

Weren’t we saying things like that, about the Adelaide Crows. last year?

I thought I saw some information that Hurn was being rested this week, but I see he's been named.

Yep...His turn to rest in the back pocket......

Agree.

Tomlinson a late in for lever, Melks the sub.  Not sure why Mitch Brown is in the squad.

On paper West Coast still have some really good players. I know they are all mostly past it, but gees they shouldn’t be so bad.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
